Honoka was born in the Kalos region, Having spent much of her younger years there before moving to Hoenn at thirteen. Her history really starts with her grandmother, when she was a young woman. Her grandmother started the breeding farm that Honoka now owns when she was about as young as Honoka is now. Her grandmother's brother was a trainer, and he often took her grandmother along when he went to the cities in Kalos, or she would watch his battles whenever she could at the Gyms. It was something she'd dreamed of, but she was never brave enough to travel around like that. Once, her brother took her to the city to participate in a battle royale event, and she saw a pair of Breeders advertising their services. She had been drawn to them immediately, and spent the afternoon asking them about their work while her brother battled and won the tournament. When she went home, she decided that was what she wanted to do. Her brother caught her her first few pokemon, and helped her buy a ranch when she got older with the money he'd won in his tournaments to host her business in in what was at the time some backwater village in Kalos with no name. Being a successful trainer apparently helped with things like that, as he never seemed short on money.

And so, Honoka's grandmother started what would become the family business, inherited by the oldest girl in the family line each generation. When her mother inherited the shop, she decided to expand it. So her mother and her father, shortly after they got married, moved to Luimiose City to expand the Breeding business her grandmother started. They bought a decent sized though still small ranch of 19 acres and brought along several of the Pokemon that had accumulated over the years from the ranch her grandmother started. They sold the old ranch to some friends who Honoka's grandmother had known, though they kept in touch. For four years, Honoka's mother built the Breeder ranch's reputation in the city. During that time, her mother became pregnant with Honoka's brother, and then herself. Her mother made various trips around Kalos, and to Johto, to get a number of Pokemon for breeding from that region. They had to cut one of these business trips short, her mother very pregnant with Honoka herself, as the baby decided it was time to be born about half a month early. They interrupted the trip to take Honoka's mother to the nearby hospital in the Kalosian city Anistar, and she was born, a screaming baby girl with tufts of blonde hair sticking out in all directions.

Honoka grew up in Kalos, learning the languages spoken there and the languages of those who came from elsewhere to visit their farm. The Dragonair she has with her normally was a gift from her parents when she turned seven. Her childhood up until then was spent hanging around the ranch playing with the pokemon and helping take care of the eggs. Her then Dratini followed her everywhere she went. The two even slept together in the same bed. When she grew up a little more, after having had some experience playing trainer in the backyard with her Dratini and the other Pokemon, Honoka told her parents she wanted to become a real trainer. Her mother and father didn't approve. After all, she was the eldest girl, and the tradition was that the ranch would be inherited by the eldest girl in the family. She had an older brother who had gone and became a trainer a few years earlier, just like her grandmother's brother had, and she yelled about how it wasn't fair that she couldn't do the same. Honoka was determined to do this, despite her parents' disapproval.
[break][break]

So one night, a few days after the fight with her parents, Honoka packed what she thought she would need, got her Dratini and two other pokemon whom she had become very fond of and vice versa (A then Beldum and Goomy), a few pokeballs that were sitting around the shop, and went off on her own to become a trainer. She left a note to her parents telling them exactly what she was doing, and that she was determined to become as big a trainer as her grandmother's brother was. Her mother was distraught, and her father was angry, but they forgave her in time and just hoped she would be okay on her own.
[break][break]

Honoka had a hard time starting out. While she did have some previous knowledge of Pokemon thanks to her parents and the ranch, she didn't have much of any knowledge to be a trainer proper. For her first few months, she lost every battle she came across. That developed her temper from a child's temper tantrums into the fiery temper she has now. When she turned thirteen, she figured she should attempt to find some outlet for her anger after she put a trainer who had hurt one of her pokemon in the hospital. It had been after a battle she had won, and the other trainer, having gotten upset at losing, came up and kicked her Dratini hard in the side. She got so angry she beat the other trainer near half to death and made him pay for her Dratini's health out of pocket. She realized then, after a long discussion with a passerby who would grow to be a prominent figure in her life, that maybe her anger was a problem, and so she would find a way to deal with her anger. She moved on her own to Hoenn and learned how to fight, both with her hands and with a whip.
[break][break]

It often took so much concentration when she was learning that she didn't have time to get angry, and she found that with a weapon in her hands she would begin to think twice about striking another person again. She didn't often end up having to use the whip, though, despite her newly gained ability to. Much of her free time for the next several years was taken up in learning how to use and control the whip properly to fight with, without cracking herself with it in the back of the legs or neck.

By the time she was 16, Honoka had managed to collect three gym badges. She wasn't quite as successful as her grandmother's brother had been, but she was certainly satisfied with herself, having become better than her own older brother was at the time. She wrote letter after letter to her family, both sides having forgiven the other long ago for the fight and for her leaving home in the middle of the night like she did. She kept in constant contact with them, even writing her grandmother the occasional letter, though her grandmother had yet to fully forgive her for what she said was 'a disgrace for abandoning the family.' That always stung a little, but Honoka had learned to let it go about a year and a half ago now, knowing her grandmother was impossible to please unless you were her puppet. This past year she's found herself more and more involved with the league in Hoenn, as things seemed to be amiss and she went looking for answers, getting herself into a heap of trouble she hadn't been expecting. She'd been rescued by members of the League and promptly joined up to help them keep doing what they were doing, acquiring her Gible as a welcoming gift from one of the trainers who'd rescued her. She wasn't about to let a bully get their way if she was capable of stopping them.
