despite having a plenitude of water types, persephone found her arsenal of ice types lacking. the two seemed to go in hand to her, at least intellectually, but her abundance of one and not the other is a quick way to sever that connection between them. she attributes their absence on her team to their scarcity in the region.

it's not just about the gaping hole in her party for combat purposes; the coordinator contest is soon approaching, and persephone knows nothing can dazzle a crowd like a beautiful powder snow.

regardless, the winter-themed festivities in lilycove have spilled over to the safari zone, and the new promotion isn't one she's willing to miss, even if it means a significant hit to her wallet for the entrance ticket.

something small, fast, and wet-nosed bumps into persephone's leg. despite how tiny it is, the sheer force of the muscle underneath the shaggy brown coat is enough to nearly knock her entirely off balance. still reeling from the impact, it takes a moment for her to process what happened.

the pokemon stands stoutly at her feet, whether out of sheer obliviousness or having forgotten its own path due to amnesia. one way or another, she doesn't move, not even when persephone gingerly picks her up - holding her at arm's length - as she carries her back vaguely in the direction she had come from.

only when she hears snuffles and grunts in the grass does persephone gently lower the pokemon, releasing it to be with her kin.

the safari zone has set up a small slope of artificial snow for some of the new pokemon arrivals to flock to, and persephone watches as a swarm of alolan sandshrews tunnel through the ice. several take turns pulling themselves into tiny spheres and rolling down the slopes in utter glee.

one rolls further than the others, stopping short only when he's practically at her feet. he stills himself with his little hands, gives a shake of his head and peers up at her inquisitively. persephone's mild surprise is quickly replaced by a smile as the pokemon straightens to stand on his back legs and gives a shake of his body, sending ice chips flying.

he turns with a chirp and bounds back to his friends. persephone lets him.

the path twists into a wooded area, and persephone notes with some amusement that the park staff had evidently hoisted snow machines into the boughs overhead to give the illusion of falling snow.

she doesn't really know exactly what pokemon to expect in that area, but she does know that the safari zone currently housed a specific pokemon that she wants to add to her party. luckily, it doesn't take long for it to come to her.

an ice shard dropping two feet in front of her halts persephone in her tracks and she turns in time to see the sneasel lunge at her; almost slowly, almost like an overfed purrugly with a toy on a string as though playing at combat. she has more than enough time to side-step it, grinning.

the male sneasel stops in the spot she had been standing in, swiveling his over-sized feather-like ear in her direction as though asking a question. it's cute and she likes his spirit. persephone offers him the first of her three safari-issued capsules.

the forested area ends and opens into a wide open field; it had to be such by design because persephone vaguely recalls this being the space used for housing the large pokemon. indeed, the field is populated with primarily amaura - available to be caught by the visitors - and a handful of aurorus there to look after them, corralling the smaller pokemon to trees they can reach the frosted leaves from.

seeing as there is no time limit, perched on a fallen log persephone takes some time to watch. the elegant pokemon picking at their food. they are archaic and would make sense for her team, but she hardly has the space for a pokemon of that size. she moves on to the next area.

persephone opts to turn back the way she came after several long minutes of observing the herd. an icy wind picks up with vigour, forcing her to flinch back, tresses of hair whipping around her wildly. the sudden burst of cold definitely isn't a natural force, and she's quick to pause, looking for a source.

she barely sees the pale ears peeking out over a log, lost against the snow. the pokemon emerges in bits and pieces; inquisitive eyes, twitching nose. the glaceon's unusual colouring takes a moment to register, but the second it does persephone is reaching for an empty capsule in a slow, deliberate movement. she couldn't believe her luck and is almost inclined to dismiss the glaceon's glimmering pale coat as a combination of wishful thinking and her eyes playing tricks on her after over-exposure to the snow.

the safari ball is tossed in a deft slight of hand, a practiced motion.

the setting sun casts the artificial snow crystals aglimmer, and persephone reasons that her time at the safari zone is drawing to a close. nothing can top her last capture and it is presumptuous to even try.

she turns back into the well-worn forested path that she had taken earlier to reach the amaura clearing, retracing her steps past the spot where she had caught the sneasel. even if no other pokemon crossed her on the way back to the entrance, she already felt more than blessed with what she caught.

lost in her thoughts, persephone almost stumbled over a swinub who has apparently decided to sit, unperturbed, in the middle of the path. unlike the one she encountered earlier in the day, this one isn’t lost. calm and entirely still until he raised his head to sniffle in her direction with some degree of interest. a very small roadblock, she supposes.

slowly, purposefully, he begins to shuffle forward as if to greet her, and persephone throws the last pokeball on impulse because she may as well use it up before her time at the park is over.
