power is taken, never given.

fernando is not one to be denied. he refuses to take no for an answer. today is no different than the rest.

granite cave is a place he's been to before. last time it was with arlette on a vague mission to observe the cave interior to find any clues that may lead to another discovery. back then, it had been fresh off their excursion in the desert ruins. fernando had been wary back then, frightened that such a spontaneous event could catch him so off guard. today, he's just as cautious but time has made him lax. there's no longer a present fear of the what could be, just the detestable accounting of what is. for that reason alone, he marches.

the baltoy is ignored because the baltoy is useless. fernando knows the pokemon well, having received ample tutelage under the wings of both and , but its merit lies in its historic values. in terms of battling, fernando has no use for it. not with his current arsenal, not with his plentiful stocks of explosive kamikaze style pokemon. all it takes is a trigger - for him to say when.

his journey through the tunnel does not come to a stop. that event had been uneventful but fernando persist. there's always the calm before the storm and whether it be today, tomorrow, or the long stretch of the future, the storm will come.

a stray machoke makes its way across his path. the SCARY FACE it gives off is one of intimidation but fernando doesn't buckle. instead, he ignore the pokemon, uninterested and unwilling to allocate an time toward something that'll be of little use. what can it provide that he doesn't already need. extra muscle is something that he's never out of supply of. his associations with the league, his standings in the upper echelon, has cemented his out reach. even cadets like @verbatim2 are eager to bolster their status, willing to extend a hand without prompting if it means gaining favor in his eye.

what he needs is a pokemon that can provide something unique to their species. for that, he keeps looking.

the end of the path is blocked by a pokemon will come to know quite well. the escavalier will prove a pain in the ass to deal with and will be the one to show him the pokemon's true potential. for now, fernando's experience will be limited to his encounter with the feral, untrained one. it's a shabby representation of what the pokemon's capable of which lays into fernando's indisposition when faced with the real thing.

"battle routine set."

a loose pokeball materialized and from it comes a familiar red dragon. the charizard comes out without so much as a peep as it awaits the inevitable command.

"execute."

with fernando's permission, charizard is allowed to dispatch the enemy however it sees fit. only now does it have the opportunity to announce its intention with a wild roar. the DRAGON RAGE cannot be tempered by an outburst alone. it comes in the form of an intense INFERNO which licks against the cavern's rock walls as the bug pokemon is cooked alive. an endless stream of fire eventually subsides into one final FLAME BURST that renders the pokemon unable to resist. a loose pokeball cleans up the pathway from the pokemon's burnt body. the soot that cakes what used to be such a pristine armor is tell enough that fernando has conquered yet another.

silent, he continues toward the outside as the charizard stomps along behind him.
