While not exactly at full strength yet, he knew he had to look for something. Something rather important. He was rather surprised to find out that access to the desert just north of Mauville had been blocked off; so where was he going to search for that particular Grass-type he was looking for?

Thankfully, the Petalburg Woods offered a solution—seeing as it was rife with Grass-types… along with the usual Bug-type and surprising Poison-types that called the place home. And he was lucky enough to have a companion who could deal with most of these Pokémon without needing assistance.

Now the problem was…

…actually getting Nami to stay focused on the battle for more than five seconds, because hell, she had the attention span of an impatient child! Or maybe all Swablu were like that? He could only sigh at the frustration he’d been having with the fluffy cloud-like Pokémon so far. Proving to be difficult to handle, not even Ro and Suijin could make her behave… and then she had the tendency to float away on the wind if given the chance!

So now he was deep within Petalburg Woods, hops and fingers crossed for a potential Grass-type to add to his team…

It was like there was some ironic deity watching him.

He was here on the search for a Cacnea, but instead he gets tossed a literal… what the heck? Blinking a few times, he then saw an ambling Sunflora sitting in a clearing; its face situated towards the sunlight streaming down through the foliage and giving it nourishment. Brows furrowed together, he then shook his head and left the lounging grass-type alone.

It wasn’t the one he was looking for; and he didn’t want to fight it, especially with a Swablu floating around his head like a complete and total airhead. Looking up to see that the Swablu had alighted atop his head, he sighed again. “Sorry, Nami. Not today. I know you want to do something, but not against that one we saw just now. It’s too peaceful,” he added; and the Swablu let out a soft chirping noise before bonking him lightly with its fluffy wings.

“Yeah, yeah, I know, you’re excited. But try to calm down, will you?”

His Swablu had spotted it long before he did—a sudden blur of movement headed his direction; and before the man could react, a sudden blast of air knocked him off-center, almost causing him to lose his balance. A pair of sharpened claws glinted in up ahead; before a Scyther emerged from another clearing, itching for a fight.

“Rude,” was all he had time to say, before the Swablu got off her comfortable perch and then flew along on the updrafts before facing the Scyther down. As the dual-type made menacing gestures in the human’s direction, all he did was simply cover his ears—he’d already heard it coming from a mile away. The Swablu was now Singing its entrancing melody in the charging Pokémon’s direction—and while it had boosted itself with Swords Dance so it could fire off an X-Scissor attack right after, the enticing melody increased in intensity as the little cloud-bird Pokémon cranked up the volume.

Although the Scyther had started the X-Scissor attack, the Swablu then finished its song before firing off a Moonblast attack right at the sleeping dual-type, knocking its slumbering form off its feet and crashing it into the grass. “Shit, you don’t mess around, huh?” he hummed lightly in the Swablu’s direction, plucking an empty Pokéball from his pocket and tossing it at the collapsed Scyther, watching as it was absorbed in a beam of red light.
