How the tables have ironically turned.

The last time they’d been in some kind of trouble, he was the one who’d gotten himself tangled with a crazy-looking Christmas tree—which was apparently an Abomasnow but at the same time not exactly quite. His Pokédex data had registered it as some kind of a new ‘form’ but refused to update further…

…but that was a story for another day. This time, though, it was Leslie who’d gotten himself into some kind of yet-unknown disaster. He was pondering on bringing the little one along—well, he technically did, she was just within the confines of her Pokéball for now. He had a nagging feeling his boyfriend didn’t take to the little Water-type too kindly, which was a bit of a concern in itself, but still…

Either way, he shoved the thoughts out of his head for now as he tore down Route 120, as that was the last known place he knew that Leslie had gone off to. He knew there were scattered settlements along the route; and as a wandering doctor, the blonde would always go out of his way to visit these people who chose to live away from civilization to bring them basic healthcare and other necessities that they didn’t have ready access to.

Cutting a sharp turn, he skidded across a rockier section of the path and ripped and chucked vines out of the way, battling his way through the dense overgrowth as he fought through the dense greenery until he came to the settlement, nestled in a large-enough clearing that had several tents and some structures built from the natural trees around the place.

“Where—where is he, what happened? Leslie!” he called out, crashing through the clearing and coming to a brief stop before the fire that burned in the center of the settlement. “Where’s the doctor, is he okay?” he asked one of the younger boys who appeared to be curing some salted meat near said campfire.

Cue the panicky boyfriend. Where, oh where is Les.

Leslie was fast asleep. He'd known he should have slept the past two nights, but he'd been so busy working he'd neglected to sleep. He had been mixing together Beduw leaves and other concoctions for the small place that had a tradition he sort of adored. A 'cure all' of sorts. Due to a type of mold that blossomed during this time of year the people in the area banded together with the Beduws of the area and used their leaves and other herbs as a natural remedy for the airborne illness. The time of the blossoming had passed and they had made enough to keep the illness at bay. Leslie had helped clean up the place to make sure there weren't any spare spores anywhere but because of helping and a lack of his own sleep and eating, he'd gotten sick himself.

Thinking a nap would help, he curled up in the area they'd provided for him and gone right to sleep. What he'd realized, upon waking up, was that he'd slept for an entire day. Not only was the town pollen free now, but they were probably low on the remedy as well. Groggy, he sat up in his bed and coughed into his shirt, groaning as he got out of bed. It was just in time for some of the kids to come running up to his tent and giving a knock.

"Mr. Leslie! There's a man here for you! He's panicked, please be awake."

"I'm awake--"

And cue another fit of coughing into his shirt. Leslie huffed and groaned, moving to take some of the remedies he'd kept for himself just in case he got sick or there was somebody who came down with the illness while hiking nearby. He looked at it the door before moving over, opening it and staring blankly at the face that he was met with. Leslie had his hair matted to his sweating and flushed face, he was pale, and overall looked as sick as he felt.

"Oh... hey."

The moment he heard the coughing, he knew he was going to be in for it.

“Les, is this where you’ve been?” he began, frantic worry all over his face. While he’d have wanted to approach him and give him a hug, the coughing already cued him off and he kept his distance. Oh, how ironic it was—he was on the other side of the coin now.

“How long has he been here?” he suddenly remembered to ask, turning to one of the children that had showed him to where the blonde-haired doctor was resting. The blonde’s overall aura looked…down, glum. Not to mention the expression on Leslie’s face betrayed the fact that he was pretty exhausted. Am I seeing things or are those eye bags new? He thought privately, at least until another voice shattered his thoughts.

“He’s been here for a few days now. Helped us out, yes. But… he overworked himself and forgot to sleep,” one of the boys explained his way, and this caused him to squint at the blonde.

“Yes, go on,” he continued, looking over at the young boy for confirmation.

“See, we have this tradition here where we look for Budew, and then gather their leaves to make some medicine. Thing is… they’ve all moved on so there’s little left to find here. And most of the cure-all that Mister Leslie made here has been used.”

Leslie. Why did you overwork yourself again… he continued in the back of his mind, rubbing the bridge between his eyes and nose as he stopped himself from sighing out of frustration.

“Thank you,” he said quietly to the young boy, before turning his attention back to the other.

“Les, do you… do you remember the recipe for this cure-all that you made? You’re dead on your feet… you need to get more rest…”

Oh boy. Here comes the overworrier.

Stormy was frequenting the outskirts of Fortree city again. She hadn't heard of any more outbreaks of the sickness she had previously helped curb. Unfortunately, the sickness hadn't left Fortree completely.[break][break]

Not far up ahead of her she could see several children or young adults surrounding what looked to be two older men. One appeared sick and the other worried. Or perhaps she was reading too far into it. Regardless, Stormy couldn't sit idly by when she had valuable knowledge.[break][break]

The woman interjected just as Alex asked his sick companion if he remembered the recipe. Although Stormy wasn't a professional herbologist or healer, she had learned a thing or two from Cait. She had also been here, diligently listening and learning while her friend had shown her exactly what they needed for the remedy.[break][break]

"You need Budew leaves. Everything else you can get in town for cheap, but the rare ingredient is Budew leaves."[break][break]

She's serious. Stormy glances down at the sick man, worry creasing her forehead.[break][break]

"We have to be quick though. I know where the Budew are. I pray they're still there."[break][break]

With a quick movement, she unhitches a pokeball. In a flash of light Apollo appears. The sturdy stallion sits patiently as Stormy mounts him. [break][break]

"Come with me, I'll need your help. Everyone else, stay with him and keep him hydrated."[break][break]

Apollo turns, heading in the direction of the Budew. (pretty sure he was there with Cait and Stormy the first time)[break][break]

He tried to wheedle some more answers out of the blonde, but he’d passed out again—and he was at a loss for words. Now how the fuck was he going to get the ingredients from him, if the one who knew the recipe was asleep?

Alexei then pinched the bridge of his nose and went out of the tent, taking a few deep breaths to calm down.

Of course, he didn’t know that the tent flap was open, and a feminine voice caught his attention as he then looked down to see that there was a long-haired young lady not too far from where he currently stood, taking a look at his boyfriend.

“Please, I hope they’re still here,” he said with a sigh, second-guessing if he could have the little Phione out and cradled in his arm sling, but decided against it.

“I take you’ve encountered this medicine before,” he guessed a few moments later, following the young lady as she then mounted a Rapidash.

“Lead the way,” he nodded a few moments later, unballing his Braviary and letting Kyouya flap his wings for a few moments. “Kyou, follow them, please,” he said as he got on the avian’s back and let him take off, following where the female was headed.

Shit, shit, shit, please let them still be there, he thought frantically.

"Yes. Now that I think of it though, I was in Lilycove, not here near Fortree. But I'm confident I can track down Budew near here, too."[break][break]

It didn't take the pair long to get on their way. Rapidash's hooves pounded the ground confidently, his mane and tail a banner of light. From above, Stormy could hear the powerful wingbeats and the breeze they caused from Alexei's Braviary. [break][break]

She coaxes Rapidash to stop short after a time because she's seen something. Her hands brush the side of his neck as she slides off of him. She seems to be lost in thought, watching as the grass near her rustles.[break][break]

"We're looking for a source of water, like a pond or lake. Budew stick to where they have easy access to water, the cleaner the better."[break][break]

Rapidash stays where he is, unwilling to compromise her mission. Meanwhile, she gestures for Alexei to follow.[break][break]

"Has he been sick for long?"[break][break]

Normally he’d enjoy flying through the air and just relishing the feel of the air coursing through his hair—but there was something urgent about this trip that made him somber down and focus on the subject at hand.

Frowning slightly, he continued to keep an eye on the Rapidash as it cut through a path below, making sure that the Braviary flew slightly behind the advancing Fire-type—seeing as his companion knew where they were headed.

It didn’t take too long for the Rapidash to come to a stop, before he urged the Flying-type to circle down as well and came to a landing not too far from where she’d disembarked from the equine Pokémon. Looking over to where his companion was now cleaning his feathers, he then whistled softly, catching the Braviary’s attention.

“Help us look for a lake… or a water source nearby?” he asked, watching as the avian continued to clean his feathers. Eventually, the Braviary nodded and took off quietly, leaving a few shed feathers behind as he soared through the undergrowth.

“He can spot things from far away, obviously… but all the same let’s go. As for your question? Well, he hadn’t returned home for like, a few days so I went out looking for him. Turns out he overworked himself to the point that he forgot that he actually needed some sleep while working… such is the problem of a workaholic doctor…” he answered her question with a bit of a sigh.

Braviary now searching for Budew.

Stormy's expression was grim while Alexei informed her of how long his friend had been sick. It didn't seem urgent, but the situation was still a matter of urgency in a sense. The man wasn't about to die, but it wouldn't hurt to hurry up anyway.[break][break]

Sliding off the back of Rapidash came quickly, as did the squelch of soft moss underneath her feet. Her shoes were immediately soaked, and while normally that would have pissed her right off, she was overjoyed.[break][break]

"Perfect. The ground beneath us is incredibly wet, which means there's a marsh or lake nearby. It also smells very, very plant-y. Y'know, like wet grass and moss and fungus?"[break][break]

She was gesturing with her hands, trying her best to explain her thoughts. She was never the most clear, and she definitely didn't know much about what she was talking about, so that didn't help.[break][break]

However, when she looked up to see that his Braviary was searching, she would shake her head frantically.[break][break]

"Don't use him! Are you dumb? Birds are predators to plant Pokemon. Here, we'll use Sol."[break][break]

Reaching into her bag, she would retrieve the pokeball of her Castform. Upon appearing, the little creature would seem quite timid and unsure, looking between Stormy and Alexei with wide eyes.[break][break]

"We're looking for a bunch of tiny green plant Pokemon. They look a little bit like you, bulbous and tiny."[break][break]

Castform seemed to understand, glancing over his shoulder to look deeper in the forest. In an instant, the sun would break through the thick clouds overhead, and the warmth would fall on everyone's shoulders. With a pop, Castform would change into the sunny form, boasting a beautiful sunny face.[break][break]

"Great idea! Plants love the sun. Now, let's go!"[break][break]

Rapidash would remain behind, ever diligent in his hunt for grazing. He had absolutely no interest in getting his hooves wet. [break][break]

Stormy would take the lead behind Castform, who was calmly and deftly making his way into the forest. Soon enough, they would stumble on exactly what they were looking for, and would do it even faster if Alexei had taken Stormy's warning to return his Braviary.[break][break]

"Look!"[break][break]

She would suck in a breath, lowering her body and mimicking the way Cait had approached the grass types all those months ago. It seemed awkward, but it seemed to be working. Slowly but surely, she was approaching the little Budew in a way that was non-threatening and calm. All she had to do was snip off a couple petals from their heads, just enough to make into a tea.[break][break][break][break]

“Not Kyouya, he only eats fish… he doesn’t like plants,” he muttered; still, though, he reached into his shirt and pulled out a whistle before blowing a single breath on it.

In the time that Stormy was talking to her Castform and trying to get a certain point across, the Braviary had come in for a landing, eventually settling on a tree branch not too far from where they were headed.

“Kyou, stay there, will you? I know even if you don’t like plants and all that, still… she’s got a point,” which earned him a huffy squawk from the avian.

Either way, he followed her—never mind if the ground was now rather wet, at least he had boots on—until they came to a clearing where there were some little Budew frolicking around in the puddles.

Deciding to leave the gathering to her, he then watched form just beyond the clearing as the Castform was hovering off to one side, and he let her get the leaves instead.

Because honestly, he was a bit of a klutz and then some…

“Do you have the leaves?” he asks her upon her eventual return. “You’re the one who knows the recipe, you’ve got to help me make it, please…”

Braviary is in a tree, resting.

Alexei follows Stormy and just watches her in silen wonder as she shimmies through the undergrowth and gathers some Budew leaves.

The squelch of mud around her shoes was ignored - she had recently become quite a fan of dealing with mud and the ground, ground-type Pokemon had become a favourite of hers recently.[break][break]

"I'm not sure I'm the best person for this... but I'll do my best. We really should get back. Can you take me on your friend, there? I can work better if I'm not focused on where we're going."[break][break]

In a flash, Apollo would be returned, and she would gesture again to the bird.[break][break]

Assuming that Alexei complied, she would be hard at work stirring the ground up leaves and juices and peppermint all together. It would smell quite lovely by the time she was finished. She even found a few juicy berries to throw in the mix for taste.[break][break]
