Stormy had handed in her forms weeks ago to request permission to become the Lavaridge gym leader. The position had remained stagnant and empty for a while, and she had felt that it was in her best interest to take control of the position, to help the League in some way. [break][break]

Unfortunately, she had been left without any word the wise of if she'd gotten the position. There had been no calls back, no notice, nothing. She was effectively getting the cold shoulder from the council. She had her suspicions, but given her last conversation with the man, she wasn't entirely sure that it had anything to do with Fernando. After all, did it really have anything to do with him?[break][break]

Apparently, it did, as just as Stormy walked past his office - mind you, she was minding her business at the time - she overheard the voices of Fernando among other council members. She hesitated, only because her own curiosity got the best of her. She had probably been headed out the door to take a day off or something, spend the day with her Pokemon. She'd already been in to ask about her request papers and had been given a simple 'I don't know.' [break][break]

Now, unfortunately, she was getting a hint. [break][break]

When she slowed down next to the door, she could hear Fernando explaining that he didn't want 'Bronwen' to be anywhere near authority in the League. She was rash, impulsive and childish and didn't have the maturity to handle such a position. However, he didn't exactly bring up any other suggestions of who might be best suited for the job.. which they didn't seem to appreciate much.[break][break]

Stormy ducked away once the voices in the room quieted down to regular, irrelevant chatter. She was making her way towards the corridor to the left, hoping to catch Fernando and speak with him.[break][break]

Several council members filed out, not noticing her hovering by another office door.[break][break]

When Fernando finally appeared from the room, she would approach him slowly, breathing a sigh to steady her nerves and her thoughts.[break][break]

"Fernando, I'd like a word."[break][break]

the meeting adjourns and fernando gathers up the paper work and tidies it into a single manila folder. how archaic. the fact that their meeting wasn't transcribed and stored digitally tells all he needs to know about the league. a silph co. meeting would never dare neglect basic technology and the convenience it provides. it also makes accessing and hosting the information in a private server that much harder. not impossible, just tedious.

fernando is the last to leave and takes his exit with a heavy sigh. that's his last task for the evening and the only other activity on his mind is burying today's burdens under a few shots of hard liquor and some silph case studies.

imagine the disdain and dread that sets in when he hears a familiar voice.

"is it quick?"

the door closes behind him and fernando glances her way, never staying, as he continues to make his way out. his pace is steady, set to allow her to follow.

The contempt in his voice makes her nauseous. But she has a valid question, and he's likely to be the only person who can give her the answer she wants.[break][break]

"It should be, yes."[break][break]

She takes a deep breath, preparing herself to be berated once again by Fernando's negative words. It's exhausting just being in the same room as him, breathing the same air. He's intimidating and has assured her over and over that she is nothing more than the mud on his shoes.[break][break]

"I sent in a request a couple weeks ago for the position of gym leader in Lavaridge. I've been asking for updates the past couple of days but no one seems to have an answer for me. I assumed you might."[break][break]

Despite the strain between the two of them, Stormy stands confidently in his shadow. He's already on the move and expecting her to match pace, which she is, easily. [break][break]

Her dislike of him ebbs and flows, and at this moment, she's doing her best to be patient and respectful. He is, after all, her senior and her superior.[break][break]

"And if the answer is no, I'd like to know why."[break][break]

she says yes but fernando doesn't trust her. he knows the type and how the questions will unravel. his answer is not a clean one and there's bound to be a chain of questions that follows. knowing this, he doesn't stop. if stormy wants her answer then she'll have to chase after it. literally.

"i am familiar with that," he interjects. she continues and fernando exits the hall and heads toward the exit of the building.

"i've given my decision on the matter. as for why it hasn't been handed down to you--" they enter the front lobby and fernando breaks from his comment to look toward the front desk. the attendant is absent, much to his chagrin. he'll have to text Isra Nightingale to come in early. "--may be due to waiting on the others to come to a decision. that's outside of my control."

Stormy attempts to stop him as they enter the lobby. Her fingers try to wrap around his forearm to slow him. They are thin but strong, holding fast should they have made contact.[break][break]

"What was your decision? Did you say no, and that's why there's been no decision made?"[break][break]

There's no one sitting at the front desk, but that barely registers to her. She's aware that the League is in need of hires.[break][break]

Stormy isn't pleading, her eyes are locked onto the back of his head, or his face should he have turned to face her.[break][break]

wise choice. bronwen unhands him and fernando continues to leave the building. it's up to her to keep up.

thankfully, head quarters isn't too far from lilycove's night district. like the slateport market, everything's close enough to walk to. by now fernando is adept at navigating the distrinct and knows which bars to frequent. tonight will be one of those nights. maybe Isra Nightingale will join him.

She grinds her teeth, a bad habit, but one that surfaces from time to time if she's stressed. [break][break]

"sounds like a personal problem."

fernando continues on without her but keeps in plain sight. "which means i made the right decision." he turns into one of the bars and passes a bouncer that gives him a slight nod as he enters. the councilmen visits frequently enough that the bouncer doesn't need to card him. it's also established knowledge that he's of age. however, the bouncer eyes stormy asks if she's with him. fernando nods his head no and continues in.

Stormy sighs, ultimately deciding not to pursue him. Her efforts to try and break the ice between them have only made the wall between them more impenetrable.[break][break]

She waves away the bouncer. Drinking away her sorrows and praying that her problems will drown themselves at the bottom of her drink isn't the way she spends her evenings. [break][break]

The fact Fernando refuses to repair their broken bridge speaks worlds to the kind of man he is, and he isn't the type of man Stormy associates herself with. [break][break]
