the wind never feels right this far inland but she doesn't immediately make the connection. too stale, too dry, despite the greenery.

in truth all it lacks is the sea salt, the cold inherent to ocean-front breezes.

she's returning from a ranger posting and persephone realises, with a slight shock, that this is the last time she'll do something this before her official promotion.

the beating of wings overhead captures her attention, and persephone's head snaps up to watch the pidgeot swoop down just as it narrowly misses colliding with her before careening away.

judging by the unsteady beat of its wings and the awkwardness of its flight path, she can only conclude that the pokemon is already injured. she's unsure if that just makes it an easy target or a wild pokemon in need of assistance. as far as she can remember, the ranger guidelines indicate that the space between benevolent intervention with wild pokemon and undue meddling is a grey and contested area.

she throws a pokeball at it to keep herself from second-guessing the decision.
