Is it grief that she's experiencing? She feels cold, empty. She's stunned like she's in a nightmare she can't wake up from.[break][break]

One minute, Silph Co. was at its peak in Saffron city. A beacon of knowledge and leadership. Unbreakable.[break][break]

The next, the minute she turned her back on her parents in anger, it was gone.[break][break]

Team Rocket had invaded Saffron and executed her parents and several CEO's of the company. There was nothing left but shambles.[break][break]

And there was a part of her that blamed herself. Maybe if she hadn't left home in such a wild rage, maybe if she had been there to protect her parents, they wouldn't have died.[break][break]

It was stupid to think that way, because how could she, a single person, stop all of Team Rocket by herself?[break][break]

The morning of the funeral is underway. The arrangements had been made to organize the gloomy event in Lavender town. Stormy hated that idea, given how solemn and sad the town already was. It didn't need more grief to wallow in.[break][break]

It was also cold, but maybe that was the wave of fresh sickness that Stormy was experiencing. Why was she so cold, why couldn't she shake this heavy feeling that threatened to engulf her?[break][break]

The Stone family had agreed to organize the funeral given the sudden and unexpected absence of FERNANDO SILPH. Several of the other adopted Silph children had been uncontactable since Silph Co.'s fall, and Stormy wasn't in any sort of state to take care of things.[break][break]

She could hear the droning voices of people saying their goodbyes to the funeral caskets, but she couldn't put together what they were saying. She simply stood, unmoving and lost in her thoughts as they lowered the casket into the ground.[break][break]

it's a solemn day.

there are no words that could soothe the unfathomable pain that has befallen the silph family. to have a plethora of influence and wealth and yet be so helpless, left stranded to be at the mercy of grief, that is what plagues alexander as he stands near the front of the ceremony.

"status update."

it takes a moment, but a voice soon sounds through the earpiece tucked neatly in his ear. security needs to be at a high given the dire circumstances that surround them. devon's isn't enough; that is why the league is here, also perhaps feeling a tinge of guilt at the events that transpired.

as the ceremony starts to conclude, alexander parts from the rest of the crowd to tend to more personal matters.

"i'm sorry for your loss." he says out of formality. he knows she's heard the same words far too many times in one day. he stands next to her, watching as they lower the casket into the ground.

he allows a moment to pass before speaking again. "i hope the arrangements were to your standards, miss silph. your parents deserve the best. they were good people."

Stormy has taken note, albeit dully, of the security surrounding the funeral. They stand off to the side, maybe against buildings or trees to be respectful and non-conspicuous, but they're there.[break][break]

It's a shame that there is still so much evidence of violence and fear.[break][break]

The woman looks up as yet another individual approaches her to give their condolences. The words are already forming on her tongue, they've become a habit at this point.[break][break]

"Thank you. I'll be fi--"[break][break]

She pauses mid-sentence when she looks up to see who's addressing her. Alexander Stone stands before her, a solemn look on his face. Normally she may have been more excited to see him, or even irritated depending on if they had argued recently. She simply watches him, eyes dull both due to recent tears and her lack of attention to the present.[break][break]

He's talking about the arrangements for the funeral. Stormy glances around, as if seeing everything for the first time. She sort of shrugs, indifferent to it all.[break][break]

"I'm sure it's what they would have wanted. Thank you.. again."[break][break]

She breaths a sigh, tugging on the ends of her jacket. A cool breeze seems to sneak between the fabric, causing her to shiver.[break][break]

"It's still hard to believe they're gone."[break][break]

stormy's gratitude is appreciated, but not needed because the arrangements were made because he wanted to. it is the least he could do for them because their relationship extended beyond business. it's how he knows stormy and the rest of the silph children.

business first, but the moment he notices her demeanor, he realizes that business is not what she needs. he cannot help her with words, that much he knows. taking his earpiece out, he takes a step towards her before shrugging off his coat.

"i know," he says as he wraps the warm wool around her. he's struggling to find the words to say only because he's never dealt with this before: grief. he's never lost anyone in his life, and while some might call that a blessing, he considers it a curse as well.

"your father and i worked together on the joint venture project with the league. every night, no matter how late it was, he was always the last person to leave the office." he smiles at the memory, reminiscing. "he told me that success never comes from only being smart. wanting it just isn't enough. you have to earn it."

thunder cracks from above but rain does not pour yet, perhaps out of respect.

"i miss them but i know they're in a better place." glancing at stormy, he feigns a chuckle. "hopefully your father's finally resting."

Stormy has already sort of forgotten that Alexander is still standing next to her. Her thoughts keep drifting off, reliving past memories. Most of them are sad, filled with regret. She had left Saffron city on a sour note, too absorbed in her own ambitions and jealousy. She hadn't even had the chance to apologize.[break][break]

The immediate warmth of a wool coat around her shoulders jerks her back to the present. Her eyes are glassy, as if threatening to burst with tears. But she's strong enough to hold them back as she stands up a little straighter. Her fingers grasp the edges of the coat to pull it tighter around her.[break][break]

Her attention rests on the young man before her as he tells a story about her father.[break][break]

"He was a very smart man. I only wish I could have... learned more from him."[break][break]

The thunder from above startles her, she's never been a fan of the rain. Her name indicated her strength, but in reality it was a ruse, an attempt to be something she wasn't. She wasn't nearly as strong as she pretended to be, as she wanted to be.[break][break]

"I hope you're right.."[break][break]

Her fingers clench the fabric of the coat as she struggles to hold back the dam of emotion building up in her throat.[break][break]

that's all anyone can do right now: hope; hope that the silphs are at peace; hope that their killer is brought to justice; hope that kanto survives despite their loss. alexander is an optimist but he's also a realist, and at this point, accepting that only one might be true is good enough.

stormy, like the grey clouds above, can no longer hold back the downpour.

instinct over logic, alexander chooses to follow the former as he reaches around stormy to pull her in for an embrace. he feels her tears heavy against his suit and for a second his composure falters, almost breaking but he fortifies himself. he needs to be strong for her. for them.

"you're not alone." a pause, a break. "you never will be."

the rest of the attendees might have started to make their exits, but alexander stays for as long as she needs him to. FERNANDO SILPH might have abandoned her but he will not.

speaking of, "i'll find fernando. someone needs to make sure he's safe."

Tears fall off her cheeks before she even realises she's crying. The thunder claps overhead again, this time louder, and this time, with rain.[break][break]

She mistakes her tears for rain, but the sound of the storm incoming is simply hiding her sobs.[break][break]

When Alex wraps his arms around her and brings her in, that's when she truly breaks. His act of kindness is so foreign to her, given how much she had been held back. Comfort wasn't something the Silph family offered. They were stoic, proud people who took care of themselves. They didn't bother with the weak. The weak like herself.[break][break]

This makes her cry harder, and she finds herself holding him, too. Her tears wet his suit, and although she feels bad for it, she continues anyways. The rain was going to make his clothes wet anyway, after all.[break][break]

Everyone else had already ducked out of the rain, leaving in their vehicles or standing inside of the nearby church. Whatever the case, the funeral had come to and end, and the only ones left standing was Stormy and Alex.[break][break]

He mentions Fernando then, and she feels her body tense, both with anxiety and with rage. He had been the one to call her, to tell her that her parents were dead. But where was he now? He hadn't bothered to attend the funeral. She had heard nothing from him since.[break][break]

Part of her worried for his safety, but part of her also knew to look out for herself. He had never been around to help her before, so there was no sense hoping he would come around now.[break][break]

"Don't make promises you can't keep."[break][break]

Stormy pulls away from him then, before reaching around to take off the coat he had given her.[break][break]

"Don't let me ruin your jacket. I'll be fine."[break][break]

With a couple of quick swipes under her eyes, she whisks away her tears. The woman takes a deep, shaky breath to steady herself, her eyes now blazing with some sort of fierce determination. She wasn't going to be weak, she really was going to be okay.[break][break]

And when she found Fernando, she was going to question just how loyal he was to this family.[break][break]

fierce and independent, not unlike her brother; he makes a mental note of it as she pulls away.

"i never do," he affirms but that's all he does. she'll believe him if and when she wants to. he takes the coat from her and shrugs it back on, feeling the immediate weight resting on his shoulders.

there's a look in her eyes as she wipes away the tears that he recognizes: it's what defines stormy as a person. it's her determination that he admires; it reminds him of her father.

but at the same time, it worries him.

"don't go after him, stormy. at least not in kanto." it almost sounds like a plea. "leave it to me. right now you should prepare to leave the region; devon has made the arrangements for your travels. your safety is ensured with us."

FERNANDO SILPH is his only remaining agenda in this war-ridden region. the sooner he finds him, the safer he'll be.

"you will leave, won't you?"

Stormy holds his gaze when he affirms himself. There's a confidence in his expression, a solidarity. For some reason, she feels as though she can trust this man, even with her life. There's no doubt in his eyes, no sense of error.[break][break]

Even still, she's determined to take care of herself above all, to not let anyone dote on her any longer. [break][break]

The tears now sparkling on her hands are shaken off, a last ditch effort to reassert herself as powerful and confident. She could do this, she could recover from this heartbreak, this grief.[break][break]

Unfortunately, it seemed that Alex planned on holding her back. He seems to be begging her to not go after Fernando, and it's for that reason that she hesitates. Her eyes are a swirl of confusion as she furrows her brows to try and make sense of his request.[break][break]

"He's my brother, Alex, and he abandoned us."[break][break]

Her attention falters, and she glances into the empty space behind him, as if battling with her thoughts. What he offered her was a chance of freedom, of safety. [break][break]

relief comes from her words, her acceptance of her own safety, and while some might see it as an act of selfishness, alexander sees it as an act of survival, of reception that the time for her battle has not yet come. for now, it's his.

"i'm sure fernando has his reasons. the man i know wouldn't just disappear without an agenda." he defends the silph heir despite the pang in him that agrees with her.

where is he, when stormy needs him the most?

reaching a hand into his coat, he pulls out a phone and offers it to her. "here. keep this on your person at all times. it's how we'll communicate." his mind races with varying thoughts as he speaks. "a car will pick you up in two days. only go with them if the phone rings. do you understand?"

his words are not demeaning; they are said with the utmost care because her understanding could mean life or death. regardless of her answer, he continues.

"the only number programmed is mine. please don't hesitate to call me, even if it's three in the morning, i will answer."

she will press him to leave, he realizes that. the only form of reassurance he can give her is with his words.

"i won't stay long. just until i find him."

It pains her to hear that, that the man he knew wouldn't just disappear without explanation. Part of her desperately wants to believe that, to see that there may be good in Fernando. But her strained relationship with the man causes her no end of panic. He's never been there for her, and he isn't here now. What does that say about the type of man he is?[break][break]

Stormy takes the phone from Alex, looking down at it blankly. His words hit home, however, digging it in deep just how dire this situation is. She wasn't safe her in Kanto. Not with the name Silph, not with all of the knowledge she had. She was useless to herself, but worth a lot to Team Rocket.[break][break]

"I understand."[break][break]

His voice reiterates how important it is that she understand the situation. She is firm in her response, gripping the phone tight in her fingers. She slips it into her purse, tucking it into the fabric and the rest of her belongings.[break][break]

This device is like another promise, a promise that he will be on the other end of the line no matter what. It's comforting.[break][break]
