So, who knew that the little town of Pacifidlog was actually under attack?!

It just so happened that he was nearby, scouring the water routes for something that remotely resembled either a Dragon or a Flying-type, because for some weird reason there were a lot of dragons out on the ocean (and he had no idea why this was so) when he got the urgent summons on his PokéGear. Sure, the little additional function of being connected with the League Headquarters’ messaging system was a tiny bit of a hassle, but one he knew he had to have on him in case emergencies came up.

…like this one.

Reading the message, he then squinted up from his rather comfortable position on his Lapras, and the sighed. “Lucky I’m hear the area…” he said with a bit of a hum, before patting the back of Marius’ head. “Mar?” he began, before watching the dual-type turn in an attempt to face him.

“Can we head out to that town? Yeah, the one where we came from? They kinda need me over there, and there’s like some kind of attack going on…” he continued. Not knowing that it was a plague of Mareanie eating away at the little pink-and-white dual-types that kept the town afloat.

No more than ten minutes later did he arrive, and see that the town was beset by chaos. He could hear the yelling as he was no less than a hundred meters away from what qualified as Pacifidlog’s ‘shores’, and as he looked down…why was the water suddenly turning a deep shade of red? Reaching over with his left hand, he scooped it up and then realized what it was:

It was blood.

“Oh, fuck,” was all he could say, before pointing forward with his left hand. “Marius, step on it! We have to find where the hell this is all coming from!”

He’d gotten a call from his boss about the danger to the town of Pacifidlog and immediately had set off on the road towards the danger. His arcanine was used to rush trips and currently Sorrel was on Flare’s back, holding onto his mane, as his pokemon ran down the dirt road that would take them to the water’s edge. He hoped it wasn’t as bad as his superior seemed to think.

However, as soon as Sorrel’s arcanine came to a stop and he was able to look at the water, he knew that wasn’t the case. ”What the…” his eyes widened at the sight of red mingling with sea water. No way did the ranger even want to touch that. His gaze wandered the shore, finally landing on a familiar looking person. ”Alex!” he called with a whistle, nudging his arcanine forward. Flare lunged off of the hill, trotting over to stand beside the other male and barking happily at the familiar face with a wag of his tail.

”This is….some kind of joke, right?” Sorrel asked, looking down at the bloodied waters. ”No-okay-stupid question. Fuck.” This was going to be difficult for him-all three of his pokemon were fire types who certainly did not want to be in the water. Still he released Scorch the talonflame from his pokeball, sending him into the air with a trill as Flare looked on. ”Okay-you’ve been here longer than me. Where do we start?”

“I wish it were some kind of joke,” he began, grim tone in his voice as he heard the footsteps of an approaching Pokémon headed their way. Coming from one of the higher points of the island and coming to a stop near the water, before hesitating.[break][break]

“Marius, get us closer,” he urged the Lapras before feeling the lurch of the dual-type as he surged forward, coming close enough several tense minutes later so that he could grab Sorrel’s hand and get him aboard the S.S. Marius, also known as his Lapras. “If you have anything that can fly—that’s not afraid of water—let me know. Other than that… we’re going to be in for one hell of a ride,” he said, fixing his stare at the darkening red stain that was marring the water.[break][break]

While he didn’t know how many Mareanie were currently feasting on the Corsola underneath, he then gestured to several nets he had with him. “So, like, we clear them out and put them in these nets, right? If you don’t mind getting your hands all wet… I’d appreciate the help for holding them while we thin out the problem,” he added before sending out his two best—Gabriel and Kyouya.[break][break]

“Okay, you two,” he said in the direction of his Salamence and Braviary, “…we’re going fishing. If you see any of those little shits, be careful. They’re apparently poisonous,” he said, checking his PokéGear for more information on Mareanie. “Gabe, you have a better chance, you can bite ‘em with your Thunder Fang. Kyouya, stay close to Gabe and help out as best as you can.”[break][break]

With that the two Flying-types were off, before he turned to face the familiar companion with him now.[break][break]

“Scared?” was the first thing he asked Sorrel. “You look pale…”

When he asked for the help, Sorrel was quick to hop onto the lapras’s back with him and recall his arcanine into his pokeball. His talonflame wouldn’t….like being over water, but Scorch would live. Quickly-before the lapras took off from the shoreline, he released Scorch from his pokeball.

“Help them,” he told Scorch simply, pointing at the other two pokemon. Scorch trilled, following them out over the ocean with an angry glare towards the water.

With that done-and Lapras lurching away from the shore-Sorrel latched onto alexei, sitting behind him and gripping his jacket with white-knuckled hands.

Sorrel grunted at the question. “I don’t like water,” he admitted. “Like-at all. I…honestly can’t really swim,” he admitted in a rush as he clung tighter to his friend.

“But I’m not scared of the mareanie. Or any pokemon, okay? So-just don’t think that.”

“Just hang on, then,” he’d say, leaning slightly the moment Marius lurched forward and away from the shore. Both of his own fliers had already gone to work, dive-bombing the water and soaring upward the moment they’d caught something.[break][break]

“Now, what I want you to do…” he continued, reaching for one of the many nets that he’d brought along and passing it to Sorrel.[break][break]

“Just hold this open, and wait for either my Salamence or Braviary to come by and drop them in there. The Mareanie are going to be passed out, so don’t worry about them being all volatile and trying to poison you… you know, in fact, your Talonflame can help keep an eye out on the Mareanie and alert us if they’re waking up or something. That sound fine?” he asked, hoping that Sorrel would say ‘yes’ or affirm to this proposed plan at least.[break][break]

Thankfully there was a lot of space to move around on his Lapras’ back, so they could haul off several nets’ worth of Mareanie without having to worry about overcrowding the nets. Right then and there the Salamence shot out of the water, electrified fangs in its mouth holding one Mareanie.[break][break]

With a slight whistle, Alexei gestured at Gabriel, “Over here, Gabe! Into the net!”[break][break]

In came the draconid, dropping a passed-out Mareanie into the net before returning to fly low above the water’s surface and prepare to catch another. His Braviary was headed the same way, and with some gesturing, dropped at least two more into the open net.[break][break]

“You’ll see them as they come by, no worries there,” he added in Sorrel’s direction—hoping he hadn’t made the other man uncomfortable.

cait much preferred flying over the sea - the young woman discovering that she didn't suffer from the usual bout of sickness when she maintained a considerable amount of distance from its overabundance of waves.

'this is so much better than a boat.'

she breathed in the sea's salty air, her flygon traveling at a moderate pace as she carried her mistress toward their pre-determined location.

'alexei,' she thought. 'gods. i've only ever met the man once or twice now.'

cait wouldn't say she was at all nervous to reunite with the fellow - but she hated to tug him away from whatever work he was doing here. they were being called away on league-related business, meaning he'd be expected to abruptly shift his focus elsewhere. unfortunate - but not at all unusual.

'i think that's him.'

she'd been given a set of vague directions that related to where he was; so it was an absolute miracle that she managed to so quickly find the man within the vastness of the ocean.

'looks like he's dealing with the local wildlife,' she thought, noting the sight of the thick netting.

"down there, girl."

her flygon lowered herself closer to the section of the sea where alexei and his lapras were. both were careful to remain no less than a meter above the waves as cait raised her voice.

"ivanov," she hollered. "sorry to bother you - but you're needed elsewhere. you'll probably have to drop whatever you're doing."

The Salamence and Braviary had taken to pecking at the surface of the water—and while his Eelektrik was there, standing atop the head of his Lapras and ready to drop a fucking Thunderbolt on the water, he knew he couldn’t move without his human companion’s permission—and then there was the constant lurching around of Marius, trying to avoid being nipped at by the savage Mareanie that were most likely swimming underneath his flippers.[break][break]

The two avians were just about ready to drop another batch of Mareanie into the nets he was holding when he heard a voice catching his attention.[break][break]

Wait, what?[break][break]

Looking to find the source of where the voice had come from, he spotted a Flygon—and aboard the Flygon was a green-haired individual. Wait, hadn’t he seen her somewhere before, too?[break][break]

“Wait—what? Who’s going to take care of the outbreak here then?” he asked, watching as he gestured at the Salamence and Braviary to continue what they were doing for as long as they were able to keep the Mareanie away.[break][break]

“Surely, not you? What’s up?” he asked a few moments later—he thought he recognized her face, but he had to be double-sure about who this was before following her.

the young woman appeared sympathetic, her gaze shifting to take stock of the work that had been done thus far. it was a shame that he'd have to veer his focus elsewhere - but orders that had been sanctioned by league headquarters themselves were not to be ignored.

"it'll be dealt with," she assured, dismissive. "and you'll be compensated - i'll send an email to vouch for you, ivanov. you know how it is - orders being orders and all that."

when he inquired to what the summonings was all about she merely shrugged.

"probably rocket-related," she supplied. "i'd much rather be in my own city when anything 'rocket-related' is happening. but they'd much rather we report in now as opposed to later."

with that said the woman clicked her tongue and her flygon began to rise.

"meet me in pacifidlog's pokecenter, alright? see you there, ivanov!"

“Please, call me Alex—“ he began, but before he could finish the sentence, the young woman had flown away—with one destination in mind: Pacifidlog.[break][break]

Wait, hadn’t he come from there already?[break][break]

“Aw, nuts,” was all he could say, looking over at where the Braviary and Salamence were now dropping more and more Mareanie into the nets, before looking at him for guidance. “Guys. I hate to break it to you both, but… we’re needed elsewhere.”[break][break]

While he was waiting for the angry outburst, only one came—from the Braviary. The Salamence, not minding that it was trying to gnaw off a Mareanie’s face, continued to chew at it—at least until he was repelled by the poison on it. “Gabe, that’s gross. Drop it in the net, we have to bring this shit back. I don’t know what they want me over there for, but… come on, you two. Get those last in here and you can both rest,” he continued, waiting for the last few of the noxious invader Mareanie to be dumped in.[break][break]

While he hadn’t done a complete nut job of the task, at least he knew that he’d managed to quell the tide some. After asking Niya to shock both of the nets with Thunder Wave, he then recalled both the Salamence and the Braviary, before urging Marius to turn around and head back to the little town atop the Corsola colony.[break][break]

Well, shit.[break][break]
