the best way to get to know a region, mikito thought, was to get a look at the pokemon around. his patrol ended ten minutes ago, so now he's free to do as he pleases. a pokeball's tossed into the air, and caught with the same hand. this repeats twice as he contemplates, before his volcarona is finally released.

"let's see what this place has to offer," he murmurs as he steps into the grass.

farfetch'd? there were plenty of those in kanto. the sight of one can't help but strike a chord of nostalgia in mikito. maybe it's because his father had had one while he was growing up, but he finds himself moving toward the bird pokemon, a hand outstretched. before he can pet it, though, the farfetch'd lets out a loud squawk.

mikito starts with a sound that's embarassingly similar in manner, staggering back as the pokemon runs off in the opposite direction. "don't," he warns his volcarona, whose eyes are already narrowed in amusement, "it isn't funny..."

he's too focused on his pokemon to notice the other by his feet. it's pure luck that notices the vileplume before he takes another step, which would have certainly set off its defence mechanism.

"oh!"

it's a better reaction than before. grateful he hasn't made another stab at his own pride, mikito carefully moves around the pokemon, before carrying on his way.

huh, that's new.

mikito takes a moment to examine the pokemon, which doesn't immediately flee as he approaches. "well aren't you cute?" he says with a grin. the pokemon trills, pleased with the attention.

it isn't what he's looking for for his team, though, so it's with mild regret that mikito carries on his way.
