Okay, this was getting to be a bit out of hand.

The last time they’d met, they had to deal with a potential creeper-stalker that Stormy had been contending with for some time. While he didn’t want to remember the results of how the fuck that turned out, he shook his head to get rid of the memories associated with it.

But shit, it felt rather good having to stand up for her during that time… wonder if she’ll let me do it again? He thought idly as this time, he was the one who had a rather short fuse. He opened the PokéGear app and flipped it to the messaging system, checking out the details for the request that they were here to fill for today.

His brow furrowed—first of all, they were Rangers, not fucking Breeders.

How the hell were they supposed to be able to control these out-of-control, potentially dangerous Pangoro? With their bare hands? Grimacing, he then brought out his pipe and crammed some leaves into it before lighting it up. Once he had a decent cloud of vanilla-scented smoke going, he then brought out his phone and sent a message to Stormy, which simply said:

‘Bring a Fighting-type if you have one. This shit is gonna get messy.’

After sending her that message, he chose to wait just outside the Ranch that they were going to be working for this bright, sunny afternoon.

Gee, wonder when they’ll realize we’re not Breeders… he continued to himself rather crossly, taking a deep drag before letting another vanilla-scented cloud surround him.

Since when was she on duty for getting a pair of angry bears to make nice? [break][break]

People were creepy when it came to Valentine's day, apparently.[break][break]

Unfortunately, 'helping Pokemon' was in her job description. Lars had messaged her to help him complete the task and because she was a nice person, she had complied. She didn't have fighting-type Pokemon though.[break][break]

It didn't take her long to get to the ranch. She had been riding on the back of Apollo, as usual. Once he was returned to his pokeball and she dusted off her clothes from the dust and dirt that she had collected in the trip, she waved down Lars - who didn't look particularly friendly.[break][break]

"Hey, sorry. Texting and riding is hard. I actually don't have any fighting-types I don't think. Oh.. wait."[break][break]

She picked out a pokeball from her backpack, retreiving Emboar.[break][break]

"Emboar's a fighting-type, right?"[break][break]

“You know sometimes I question the sanity of whoever sends out these requests,” he muttered from behind a haze of minty vanilla-scented smoke as he tapped the pipe onto what looked like a small paper box that he’d hastily folded together.

“What the hell, I know we’re Rangers and we’re supposed to be on the lookout for Pokémon being mistreated in the wild, but…” he trailed off, cross expression still lingering somewhere in the region of his eyebrows as he took another drag and held the flavored smoke as long as he could before exhaling it out in a thin little line.

“Oh, that’s fine, no biggie,” he nodded at her apology. “It took me a while to get used to texting while riding on Ro’s back, so…” he mused, tapping the fresh round of ashes out of the pipe and into the paper ‘box’ thing. At the mention of an Emboar, he looked up, curiosity piqued.

“You… you didn’t tell me you had one of those. When’d you manage to get them?” he asked, now thoroughly curious. His own encounter with Gula was rather special, considering the fact that he was one of the rarer Tepig—well, Emboar now—that had a particularly useful move that he could utilize to his advantage when the situation called for it.

“Yeah, we’re going to need Fighting-types. Seems that Pangoro don’t actually communicate with words… they’re basically meatheads,” he quipped, snorting at the sheer idiocy of it all. Fists? Fighting? Really?

They were just like ordinary brawlers who ganged up on rivals in the street…

Stormy's own Emboar now stood behind her, looking quite stoic and proud. But also curious. The moment a butterfly flew past, a paw came up to swipe at it, her eyes growing into saucers as she walked heavily after it for a second. [break][break]

"Oh, I went safari hunting a couple months ago, right after the snow melted and they reopened. I found her as a tiny little Tepig. She's not super... intimidating, though."[break][break]

She gestured to the goofy sight of her Emboar as the gigantic beast lumbered slowly after the butterfly. At the mention of her, though, she turned around, sheepish to be caught acting so bashful.[break][break]

"You mean, these Pangoro act like most men? Why am I not surprised."[break][break]

Stormy laughs, shaking her head in amusement. Emboar returns to her trainers side, blowing smoke from her nose as she looks down fondly at her trainer.[break][break]

"You're still smoking? Huh."[break][break]

They've dawdled outside of the building long enough though, so she takes charge of the situation. It's best if they just get on with it, right? Stop beating around the bush.[break][break]

"Someone's gotta help the people, Lars, you know that. Now quit complaining and help me figure out this thing."[break][break]

She chides him gently, opening the doors to the indoor daycare. [break][break]

A very big, very hairy man approaches them suddenly, looking nearly as big as a Pangoro himself. He seems overjoyed to see the two of them, and Stormy blinks in surprise as he wraps her up in a big, spine-crushing hug. [break][break]

"Oh.. ya... thanks, you too."[break][break]

She wheezes in between each word, struggling to breathe until she's been let go. Once released, she straightens her jacket and coughs, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly.[break][break]

"So, uh. Care to show us the predicament?"[break][break]

The man nods and leads them out the back door the wide open enclosure. It's decked out in romantic garb, pink and red streamers and balloons spelling out 'Valentines Day' all over the yard. It's clear that attempts have been made to encourage romance.[break][break]

Neither Pangoro seems remotely interested though.[break][break]

He didn’t miss the little jab about how the Pangoro acted like most men, and he cracked a grin. “Hah, thanks for having a little faith in me,” he continued as he held onto Gula’s Pokéball.

“Look, I’m not complaining,” he began as he resisted the urge to roll his eyes. “It’s just that… trovo incredibilmente stupido,” he muttered as he slipped into his other language as they were approached by a… whoa.

The guy that had approached them was just as big—if not slightly bigger—than an actual Pangoro before giving Stormy the biggest of back-breaking hugs and then explaining the situation to them.

The moment they’re led out back… Lars can’t help but stifle a guffaw of laughter.

Really? They were called in for this shit?

No wonder we never get paid enough… he thought with a hint of a scowl playing across his face, his eyes taking in the ultimately cheesy… not to mention absolutely moronic decoration decisions that were made.

Looking over his shoulder to make sure that they were alone, he leaned in closer and muttered, “…you know the décor is definitely… I can’t even begin to express my dismay,” before this time rolling his eyes and popping Gula’s Pokéball up, sending his own Emboar out and watching as the bipedal bovine hit the ground with a thudding noise.

“Gula. I have a plan. Dunno if you can tell which one’s the female. Try to… uhh… how the fuck do I put this. Make the other Pangoro jealous?” he suggested, scratching the back of his head before shushing his Emboar forward. Turing back to Stormy, he then explains his plan.

“See, what I thought of is that what if our Emboar goad the Pangoro and… make them jealous… and then at some point they peel away and start fighting each other? Because Pangoro communicate the best with their fists, so it’s going to be…” he trailed off, a faint coloration rising to his cheeks before he shook his head to chase away the thought that had formed in his mind.

Stormy shrugs. She hadn't really thought that her 'Pangoro to men' comment had been insulting, but she also hadn't really.. thought it over in her head. The fact that Lars was amused, however, was a good thing.[break][break]

She groans as she leans back, cracking her already squashed spine back into place. With a sigh, she looks around at the actual mess the yard was in. Both Pangoro seemed to be on opposite ends of the yard - totally ignoring one another.[break][break]

Lars' plan seems sound, though Stormy isn't totally convinced it will work. However, given she had no other ideas to get two burly bears to do tht diddly, she was going to follow through with her partners idea.[break][break]

Her own Emboar steps up to the plate, a little embarrassed to be in the presence of another - quite handsome - Emboar.[break][break]

"Go ahead and follow Gula's lead. Just.. be yourself. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. We're trying to get those two to like each other again."[break][break]

She points across the yard to the presumably male Pangoro. He doesn't seem at all interested in her female Emboar, but that wasn't what the plan was.[break][break]

As Emboar lumbered forward nervously to meet her new, temporary suitor, Stormy would turn back to look at Lars. [break][break]

"So.. we're trying to get them to fight? Alright."[break][break]

She shrugs, sitting back to see what unfolds.[break][break]

“Specifically, we’re trying to get them to notice each other… well, you know how jealous lovers go…” he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. While the theory sounded good in his head, he wasn’t too sure was how well it would translate on paper—well, actually in reality but who’s keeping count—and all he could do was mentally cross his fingers.

“I remember reading the Pokédex entry about Pangoro… that they best show their affection… by fighting. So either the female Pangoro is butch, or there’s something really wrong here…” he mused, watching as Gula began to flare up his impressive-looking beard in a ‘show of dominance’, before stomping over to the female Pangoro, who was chewing on the little thing in her mouth with a scowl on her face.

“Well, I have to admit Gula’s a bit of a showoff…” he continued, turning his attention back to his own Emboar as the dual-type then began flexing in the female Pangoro’s direction. Initially, the Pangoro didn’t notice the Emboar—at least until he started beating his fists against his chest.

Kind of like a wild orangutan.

This served to cheese the Pangoro off, and a scowl was met with a smirk—and it wasn’t too long before the Arceus-damned Pangoro finally snapped and charged at the male Emboar, who gladly met the challenge with a Heat Crash in an attempt to further piss the Pangoro off and goad it to attack her male counterpart.

“Well, shit, he’s making a move,” he muttered, looking over at Stormy.

“How’s your Emboar dealing with the other Pangoro?”

Stormy mused over this for a bit all while watching Lars' Emboar size up his lady. The great brute would puff up his beard and attempt to intimidate or aggravate the lady Pangoro. It seemed to be working quite well, as the female seemed to be growing more and more agitated.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Stormy's Emboar was a lot more passive, approaching the male Pangoro much slower. She would bat her eyelashes and try to present herself as cute - but it didn't seem to phase him at all. The male just.. didn't seem at all interested in looking at her.[break][break]

"Mine is a little bit more shy, I think."[break][break]

Stormy winced reflexivly when the female Pangoro met Gula on the field. The Emboar used heat crash in order to make the female even more agitated., but it seemed to be the spark the male bear needed.[break][break]

He promptly moved past the female Emboar to glare down the male one. Although he didn't particularly care for the female Pangoro, there was no way in hell he was going to let some other macho brute step in and take her away.[break][break]

The branch in his mouth snapped as he charged, steam billowing from his ears (metaphorically).[break][break]

Stormy gasped in surprise, taking a healthy few steps back so as to not get trampled.[break][break]

“I find it quite ridiculous, actually, but who am I to judge,” he mused as his male Emboar literally took charge with another impressive beard flare, trying to ‘put the moves’ on the female Pangoro—only to get shoved out of the fucking way by the male Pangoro, whose little grass-thing in its mouth had long since snapped in a literal (and metaphorical) manner.

Apparently even Pokémon had chances to exhibit human behavior and this was one of those cases—his Emboar getting into a fight with the male Pangoro in a show of dominance—wow, okay that was a little extreme to see!

Seeing as the Emboar ducked out of the way the moment the Pangoro came in close with an Arm Thrust attack—only for the bulkier Emboar to duck out of the way and cause the incoming attack to hit the female Pangoro!

“Oh, crap,” was all he could say, quickly pulling Stormy backwards as the two Pangoro finally turned on each other and began to throw punches at each other, the male Emboar slipping away and puffing his flaming beard out at a ‘job well done’, before heading over to the female Emboar that belonged to Stormy and giving it a comforting… well, ‘punch’.

“Did Gula just…” he stammered, catching sight of how his Emboar had approached the other and was now trying to comfort the much more timid and shy dual-type, ignoring the fact that there were two Pangoro that were now trying to assert dominance over each other in a show of crashing fists and grunting noises.

Stormy is moved without her own feet carrying her. Lars' hands quickly shift her away from the now aggravated battle. It appears that his tactic had worked to some extent. Now both Pangoro were locked in a fist fight, angrily beating each other up for even daring look at another Pokemon.[break][break]

The female Emboar had not really been helpful at all given how timid she was. Although Stormy wasn't all that surprised, it still seemed to make the poor dual-type look crestfallen. Maybe it was all of the romantic decorations and the loving mood she was feeling. Everything in the area pointed towards romance and love - and she wasn't receiving any of that.[break][break]

Stormy caught on to what Lars was trying to say, and she looked up at him and then to the two Emboar. She caught a glimpse of his Emboar punching hers, and she could see the shock reflected in her companion's eyes.[break][break]

In fact, she looked at Stormy as if for direction and purpose. It seemed like she was blushing a little bit, nervously flaring her own beard in response to his 'comforting' punch. Stormy laughed, shaking her head and holding her ribs at how funny all of this was.[break][break]

"Well, looks like even if the Pangoro aren't 'in the mood', someone is!"[break][break]
