"i, uh, don't know the brand to be honest."

kyle tries to look for the brand tag of the current shirt he was wearing, but gives up after a while upon finding the unnecessary twisting of his body tiresome.

"probably some place that got a clearance sale some time ago." he never was into fashion, or anything cosmetic. best thing he could do was coordinate his outfits with colors, but even that takes too much of his time.

"who cares where i got it from anyways. it's cheap and comfortable, and i got a bunch of others to replace this with in case this one gets ripped up."

it's not like he'll get judged for what he wore. even if he did, he supposed he's past the stage where he cared about what others thought of him.

cait's facial features scrunched up into a grimace, the woman giving him another quick once over before shaking her head in disapproval.

"right."

she reached out and checked her persian's paw, a small cut present due to the stealth rocks. 

"lick it a few times, baby girl. you'll be alright." 

her pokemon's tongue passed over her scratched pad several times before she hurried to follow her young mistress. 

"and how's work?" she said. "planning on reenlisting after the war?"

"got stationed at rustboro. was forced to a promotion though. can't really decline it since it came with offers i can't really refuse.

kyle had been slowing down his pace as he kept up with the conversation. it felt like a natural thing to do when you enjoy a leisure chat with a friend. it also gave him an extra bit of time for his traps to work their thing.

"also, i-"

he was distracted by a familiar cry. he quickly honed onto the source, temporarily leaving cait in pursuit of the next batch of stealth rocks he had positioned not too far away from them.

"sorry, i'll get back to you later," he apologizes as he runs off.

he saw a poochyena by the rocks. tears were welling up on its eyes, but it kept itself busy with the bait he had specifically set up to attract canines. not like it can do anything else with a broken leg.

he chucks a pokeball at the dark-type as soon as he sees it, before he turns to one of his lycanrocs who followed behind him. "get rid of this please," he asks them. the lycanrocs disarm it not a second later.

"another pooychyena, kyle?"

the young woman had caught up only seconds prior to the poochyena being absorbed into the capsule. she had appeared rightfully bemused by the sight, aware that kyle possessed no less than six mightyena already. 

'but i do have four lilligant's of my own,' she thought. 'so i don't have the right to judge - not really.' 

"what are you going to name this one?"

she shifted her focus toward her pokemon whom were carefully treading around the stealth rocks. 

'these damn things are everywhere. does he even remember where all of them are?' 

it'd be surprising if he hadn't just randomly placed them and forgot where they were immediately after.

"did you want to stay a cadet?" 

cait's tone sounded incredulous, the woman struggling to understand why he'd deny himself the opportunity to advance in rank.  

"the pays a little better," she said. "more responsibility - i guess - but it's well worth it."

she used to have a team of bugs when he first met her, although he did notice her shift her team to the grassier variant as time went on. he supposed she just meshed well with them better than her butterflies.

"india, probably."

the naming scheme was basically the alphabet. the poor poochyena had no chance of getting away from the name.

"well, you know me. i'd rather not be responsible for anything."

'butterfly girl.'

there were only a handful of people who had bothered to remember her time spent as a fresh-faced cadet. she had traveled alongside her beloved starters - beautifly and butterfree - during her first few months. unfortunately, they were poorly suited for such a difficult lifestyle and she used them sparingly nowadays. she'd much rather they live out their lives in her gym; where it was safe, comfortable and the likelihood of them being harmed was minimal. 

"it's not so bad," she reasoned. "you're good at what you do - otherwise you wouldn't be here."

cait wondered if he cared for praise but decided to make her opinion of him known regardless. 

"you're loyal, too. and you go where you're needed," she said.

"flattery won't get you anything from me," he jested. "and i'm fine. it's more of an conflict with the lifestyle i've wanted than anything else."

he was still twenty-three, with plenty of things he could still explore in life. getting enlisted within the league was supposed to be a temporary thing to fund his hobbies. then again, he never had any other goals. perhaps a career on something was better than nothing for his future.

he reaches another set of stealth rocks, with nothing caught in it. a trail of blood was there though, signifying that it did manage to snag something. probably larger than the previous pokemon they found earlier.

"do you think it's smart to just leave it there?" he asks, assuming that cait had already spotted the crimson on the grass.

his lycanroc proceeds to destroy the stealth rocks as he awaits for her response.

cait released a low hum as her attention was drawn toward the suspiciously slick material that clung to the makeshift trap. 

"i'll deal with it," she said, distractedly. "make sure to take care of all your rocks, kyle."

she lightly gestured for her feline pair to follow her lead, their soft pelts soon brushing lightly against her legs as the young woman's gaze remained fixated upon splattered crimson. 

'definitely blood. and there's no doubt in my mind that it's on the heavy side.' 

cait crouched for the sole purpose of brushing her fingers against red, her brows raising high upon her forehead as she discovered that it had yet to dry properly. 

'fresh, too.' 

she and her companions wound their way through a plethora of trees and thick undergrowth, cait having little difficulty navigating the overabundance of green that sought to block her path. and it was easy enough to locate the source of the blood, a huddled figure nursing several prominent gashes catching her eye as she bypassed a particularly thick brush. 

'a linoone. but - '

the pokemon shifted its gaze toward her, the odd coloring it boasted causing cait to pause only for a moment before she reached for her belt.

'it's injured - so i doubt it'll put up much fo a fight.'

she'd give the empty capsule a gentle toss, eager to both capture and tend to the normal-type's wounds soon after.
