As one of Hoenn's most shameless capture specialist, Fernando sees Pokemon as nothing more than tools. Unlike a majority of trainers that devote themselves to a specific type, he focuses his attention on Pokemon based off their purpose. Upon moving to Hoenn, Fernando had a tendency to rely Pokemon that used utility based moves to restrain his opponent. Most of his Pokemon used a mixture of TAUNT, ZAP CANNON, SHADOW TAG, along with moves that would allow him to copy his own Pokemon such as TRANSFORM or COPYCAT.

With the resurgence of Legendary Pokemon, he's set his sight onto capturing them to ensure they don't fall into the wrong hands. Fearful of their power, he treats these Pokemon with much more respect, considering them equals in order to placate them into remaining beside him.
