He loved ghost stories.
When he was younger, he and his buddies from down the street would while away the Viridian City nights by huddling around a lit scented candle they stole from one of their mother's and telling stories. There had been a fad at the time where people believed that telling supernatural stories would attract ghosts; looking back on it now as an adult, Xinyi felt silly, but as a child, he and his friends really believed that a lit candle and a sharp tongue was enough to begin an evocation.
Of course, when he found out that there was a potential haunting in the high rise Mauville Hills and that the League was investigating it, Xinyi decided that he just had to be on the team, even if it meant working with a total stranger for the first time. The years had turned him into a complete skeptic, it went without saying, but he still harbored some hope that maybe there really was something more to the stories. This lingering hope was proof that he hadn't grown up quite just yet.
He decided to go casual for the case. The League had a standardized uniform apparently, but that wasn't really his style. Besides, intricate criminal syndicates had eyes and ears everywhere, and Xinyi didn't really want to tip anybody off. According to the mission report, the ''haunting'' was supposedly in an underground floor that was generally inaccessible to residents.
Since this mission was pretty much sanctioned by the proprietors of the building though, a hotelier had given them a special lift key that would allow them to reach the floor and Xinyi had already collected it from him. Since the report also stated that he'd have a partner-in-crime for this request, Xinyi decided to wait outside the lift on the first floor until his associate showed up.
