Today Adam was no longer just Adam Shepard your normal everyday man, no, in fact today he was Prince Adam. Now what in the world did this all mean? Well the Renaissance Faire had hit the area and much like loads of other people Adam wanted to check it out. These sorts of things typically ended up being a good time so why not use today to relax and have fun?

At least that was his thought process but of course, things ended up going differently. Apparently one of the performers or something along those lines at the faire wasn’t going to be able to do their job and the staff needed a replacement. Adam at the time was minding his own business, enjoying of the big ass legs of meat they always gave out and a mug of beer, when he was approached about the situation.

He wasn’t sure that sort of black magic they used on him to get him to agree but next thing he knew he was in some sort of dressing room getting fitted for the role of the event’s Prince, and hey they didn’t even have to change his name it fit so well. They dressed him in some fancy robes and fitted him with a fancy looking prop sword to match, he really did look dashing.

Now that he looked all fancy his job was to wander about and play the role of prince until the other activities started there was also something about a jousting or battling competition and then a play and maybe something about fighting a dragon? The man really should have been paying more attention.

Never before did he have to do something like this but since he apparently agreed to do this he was going to do his best not to completely make a fool out of himself. Walking around the event was now awkward as hell; at least it was at first until Adam completely embraced his role as Prince.

He was really hamming it up and even doing little neat tricks like juggling swords. They really let him have the run of place and given his supposed “position” it made sense so might as well put on a good show.

it was a joyous occasion. the shift backwards in a time she'd not grown familiar with was crowded by festivity. an array of brilliant shades which adorned bizarre yet— beautiful outfits.[break][break]

delphi in particular had attracted the attention of many as she passed them by. the sheer material of the dress and cloak presenting a series of greens that matched the similar curious eyes. one hand raised in a slight greeting to a few children that gawked at the display of a seeming princess.[break][break]

unfortunately for them— she was no princess. their innocent assumptions may have left the girl smiling, but the thrill for surprise was what really set her nerves ajar. wondering how brilliant their expressions would be when they'd realized they were mistaken. that would be the real fun![break][break]

two figures followed closely alongside, their contrast in size only notable at second glance. the beast more friendly than the fox that stared aimlessly ahead. irritated by the crowd that could've shifted into an accidental step. maybe it was a good thing that the dragon had been keeping an eye out.[break][break]

breaking from the mass of surrounded vendors, the opening revealed a slightly more reasonable space. the series of interesting roles present on either end. especially one.[break][break]

her face lit up beneath the shadow of the cloak, rushing forward to watch the little show while she'd still had the time. after all— her role simply was not to loiter. as much as delphi might've preferred otherwise. "bravo! bravo!" the voice called, "that's what they say right?" slight laughter came but the people begun to dwindle.[break][break]

now it was just her and Adam Shepard that stood together. the spare hand reaching towards the center of her chest, offering a momentary bow. "your highness. i didn't expect to see you here!" despite appearing as a jest, she'd kept herself within their current roles. at least for the pleasure of those that were still watching.

The crowds of people had all been for the most part unfamiliar faces. Now there was no issue with this but this is why it was quite the pleasant surprise when Adam did recognize someone among the people.

It was none other than the delightful Delphi Sorrow, the pleasant woman who had helped him not too long ago. Seeing her was quite the treat and watching her get into the whole medieval timey thing was endearing. He wondered how she got tied up in all of this, was she like him and got roped in without much of a choice in the matter?

”Lady Delphi! I didn’t expect to see you here either!” He returned a bow, happy to see her. ”But it is a welcome surprise!” He would then motion for her to follow him. This was mainly to get even more away from the crowds, have a moment to themselves. Or at least the closes thing they could get to it.

”So what brings you out here? Just came to experience the fair in a casual sense or are you here for on the festivities?” Speaking of which Adam was informed that one of those events was starting soon and he’d have to be a part of it.

”I believe there are some sort of competitions starting soon. Was it jousting or a battling tournament? Can’t seem to remember?” He tapped his chin as he spoke, trying to piece it all together.

”Even though I was just thrown into all of this I’d be lying if I said I didn’t kind of dig being “Prince Adam”. I look great in these robes.” The tournament would soon begin and those involved would be called for it.

she follows as though it'd been natural. the muttering onlookers watching the pair head off somewhere lacking of the crowd. her eyes pass them a harmless glance— armed with a slight smile. there is something mesmerizing about a bright and genuine expression. bewitched into a trance where they'd misplaced the prince and the 'princess'.[break][break]

umbra kept himself aside the girl, brushing against the long cloak. the dragon having drifted elsewhere. either intentionally or unintentionally. zoro and his appearances were as bizarre as the day they'd met. no fragment of doubt pierced through her poise for good spirits. it'd been an often characteristic of the dragon— a truly mysterious companion.[break][break]

"for one of the festivities!" a shrugging gesture was made, "i can't say i haven't been looking forward to this though!" it wasn't everyday they'd put in a personal request. delphi had imagined herself a small—time ranger. instead those humble ideas were beginning to dwindle in this new reality. "prince Adam Shepard, you do look rather splendid!" her smile broke into a grin.[break][break]

one smaller hand reached for one of his own. "follow me!" tugging him along without considering a possible protest, they'd weave behind the marketplace. passing various other shows and props that well resembled a castle. her free hand tugged at the hooding of the cloak. as if concealing herself from those that would've noticed.[break][break]

finally— delphi stopped before the stadium. [break][break]

the particular entrance led directly into the pit of a battle field. within came the buzz of people, their voices resounding against the slight tunnel. light peering through from the other end. "so... prince adam," her hold withdrew and the coverage was cast down from golden strands, "i challenge you to a battle!" one hand rested against the chest. as if to make herself seem mighty.[break][break]

"unless you don't think you can beat the dragon." it was the same childish quirk. there might've been some innocence in her tone but, the girl was certainly ushering a taunt. her garments trailed behind her as she twirled towards the entrance. bounding her way forth with a slight skip in her step. the role had finally come to light.

It was odd, Adam never fancied himself the type to really care to get all dressed up and play a role like this but he was actually enjoying it. The awkward glances and the whispers he could do without but everything else about it was nice.

He wondered if he could get away with taking home this fancy sword they gave him, though at times he wasn’t sure if they were staring at them or the Pokémon that accompanied his cloaked friend. ”I hear the festivities are pretty awesome, so I’m with you right there on looking forward to it.” It was the whole reason why he decided to show up in the first place.

”Why thank you and I have to say you are looking magnificent yourself.” She really did, almost exactly like those princesses in all of those fairy tales. ”H-hey!” It was all he could get out as Delphi took his hand and pulled him along, not sure where she was leading him too.

Adam didn’t protest much after that, he was certain at this point it wouldn’t matter as the woman seemed quite determined to take him somewhere. Their journey coming to a halt once they reached the stadium.

He could hear the buzzing of people’s voices, see the light coming through at the end of a tunnel that of course led to battlegrounds. It all became clear to him when Delphi had boldly challenged him to a battle. He smiled, containing himself from grinning like an idiot, as a hand reached for a capsule that within held one of his trusted friends.

”I happily accept your challenge! It’d be an honor to battle you!” There was a bit of a change in his voice to make himself sound more “noble” or at least Adam’s version of what those Princes and Knights sounded like in all of those movies.

Her final taunt was met with a smile, they were both enjoying this. The Prince would release his Lucario from his capsule home, the Pokémon stretching once it appeared. ”The Prince versus the Mighty Dragon, huh?” He smiled to himself before releasing his Noivern.

He explained the situation to both of his Pokémon and came up with a little plan to make things more exciting. After he was done explaining his Noivern took off for the skies, her role would be played later. Now they would have to make their way to where the battle would commence.

Growing up Adam had been exposed to this situation many times. The walk into the stadium and how there would be all the sound in the world but for you it was silent, it was all too familiar to him. This time it was of course different.

No real high stakes or pressure he just had to put on a show and have a good time battling with a friend. But he was more excited than what would be expected. She had challenged him and honestly, it felt a bit more than just doing it for her role. He couldn’t help but think how much fun this was going to be as he moved forward.
