She needed to blow off some steam, and what better way to do that than by forcing herself into a small ass cavern filled with sweaty men and the endless sound of bickering?[break][break]

What with the recent news of mega stones and accessories thanks to Lucas Lane and Persephone Amavi, trainers and civilians alike were pits deep in the tunnels and caves and mountains of Hoenn, desperate to get their hands on their own precious stone.[break][break]

Little did they know, these stones seemed to just... come to the people that needed them. She had found a peculiar stone hidden in the hot springs. She hadn't really taken the time to look at it in depth, but it seemed important.[break][break]

Rather, she had kept her mouth shut and willingly agreed to help protect the reckless miners as they dug their way into the Seafloor caverns. She had decided against bringing Wadjet simply because of its tight quarters and how unbelievably wet and disgusting it was.[break][break]

Instead, Stormy had collected Blissey and her newly acquired Vulpix to accompany her. The Vulpix remained nestled in her arms, staring out blankly and pivoting her head to capture sounds. The Vulpix had been found with severely injured eyes, and unfortunately had never regained her eyesight.[break][break]

Blissey watched over the two with a motherly intensity, only glancing away to make sure the other miners were safe.[break][break]

"Shouldn't someone else be here with me, too?"[break][break]

The thought just occurred to her, and Stormy stopped briefly to look over her shoulder as if expecting another stranger to pop out of the dark. [break][break]

cordelia tripped, and ended up falling on her face right in front of the gym leader. "ow ow ow... who put a rock there?" she queried out loud, shifting herself to a seating position. a phantom pain seemed to lance in her leg, but the girl ignored it, and reached out for the stone that tripped her, slipping it into her pocket. and that's when the blonde turned her head, and noticed a figure she sort of knew, but had never actually met. "oh! um! sorry I'm late ma'am! but cordelia potter reporting for duty!" she said, quickly getting herself to her feet. she could feel her face turn slightly red, because jeez who trips in front of a gym leader as a first meeting?

cordelia wasn't even clumsy! it was honestly a freak accident.

she finds herself lowering her head a little, as a thought streaked in her head. of course she had such an embarrassing moment in front of someone important. she didn't deserve any good windfall, and well, literally making a fool of herself was the easiest way to show her lack of worth, right? the dark thoughts that tend to pervade her started swirling, a mix of guilt and anxiety threatening to take hold of her. she had volunteered to come help here, if only because it would be something to do. that, and she wanted to see if she could start helping people again - try to move a little more past the shell she had built for herself lately.

and what better way then to try and protect people? she has been training herself, so why not test herself? the blonde finds herself taking a breath, and then lifting her head to meet the eyes of the gym leader before her. she couldn't - no, she wouldn't - back down now. "so what should we do first ma'am? I would assume a little bit of scouting, but I haven't done something like this in a long time, so I could be wrong! and I wouldn't want to mess up your plans." she said, easily deferring lead to the other girl. it was almost a given, considering how Cordelia is at best a super low ranking grunt. who was she compared to someone stronger?

and it didn't bother her as much as it should have, for some reason.

she did bring people suited to caves though, and that should help... probably. hopefully? she's not sure, the nervousness already clawing at her again, even if she ruthlessly pushed it back down. she would wait for an answer before doing anything else however, feeling the beat of time sync with the beat of her heart in her veins. she would be able to do something soon. be helpful soon.

Stormy stepped back with a gasp, hand flying to cover her open mouth. At her feet lay a blonde woman who had apparently tripped. When she stood up, she swiftly picked up whatever it was she had tripped on, and Stormy couldn't help but wonder if the rock had sparkled or something.[break][break]

The thought is fleeting and quickly replaced with the reminder that the woman had fallen, who cares what rock or object she had picked up![break][break]

She introduced herself while pulling herself out of her seated position, brushing her clothes off to announce that she was 'reporting for duty.'[break][break]

And Stormy laughed a little bit, shaking her head from side to side. Cordelia dips her head in embarrassment, but Stormy waves her hand dismissively, trying to get the woman's attention.[break][break]

"Oh please, don't be embarrassed! It could happen to anyone! Are you alright?"[break][break]

She gives the stranger a quick once-over, looking for scrapes or bumps. Finding nothing that might need a bandaid, she reclines back on her heels and smiles at the young woman.[break][break]

"Also, just relax. You're barely even late. We literally just got down here and it's been super quiet. All of the rattling and banging of these crotchety old men has scared off all the Pokemon. I'm not even really sure what we're supposed to be protecting them from. Themselves, maybe?"[break][break]

Now that she mentioned it, the smell of beer was heavy in the air, and several more intoxicated crew members guffawed in laughter at some stupid joke. Stormy would sigh, rolling her eyes before turning back to Cordelia.[break][break]

"I'm Stormy Silph, by the way. Guess we're partners for this task!"[break][break]

She listened intently as Cordelia babbled on about scouting out ahead, but not wanting to intrude on her own ideas. Leaning back again, Stormy would purse her lips and cross her arms over her chest, thinking.[break][break]

"Scouting ahead sounds pretty good, not gonna lie. I really didn't have a plan other than follow these guys around and wait for something to come out and bother 'em. If we find the perp' first though.... that'll save us a ton of time!"[break][break]

Blissey would trill in agreement, clearly invested in this plan. While the two ladies had been talking, the Vulpix had slipped down gently from her trainers grasp, wandering slowly towards the Blissey, who willingly took her position as the young fox's guide.[break][break]

"Hope you're not afraid of gettin' your feet wet, Cordelia!"[break][break]

she feels her breath relax just a little.

she could still feel that nervousness in her stomach, clawing and trying to come to the surface. she tries to not squirm, but the more moments pass that she's not scolded, she relaxes. in fact, it seems like the gym leader before her is doing everything to make her feel more comfortable. and that brings another blush to cordelia's face. was it that obvious? probably, this was her first outing in a while. but she wouldn't screw it up by just... just stopping and falling. no, she had made a promise to try and move forward. even if she was shattered, that was the family motto - to move forward, to keep going. and she was going to embrace it.

she feels a relieved smile touch her face, even as she shifts her body. "I'm glad you like the plan ma'am! and I'm fine, at least I didn't break a leg this time. and yes! I don't mind getting into the nitty gritty of it. I've always been told a good defense is a great offense!" she said, feeling a smile touch on her lips. she feels her whole body just relax and yet she's excited. she has a pretty good idea of what to do - it's something she's done with daddy many times - and the blonde girl can't help but feel elated. "it's pretty simple! let me just -" she said, pausing as she took out two pokeballs. with a twist of her wrist, two pokemon spawn out of their balls.

" - bring out laus and claudius. luckily enough, laus has been with me all my life - so we can leave him here to guard and babysit the miners." she said. the imposing scizor seemed to nod with his trainer's words, and immediately shifted himself in a prime place to watch over the drunken men. "so with your two lovelies - I think it was two, I'm ninety percent sure I saw a vulpix tail - and claudius here, we should be fine!" she said. nodding again, she finds herself taking a deep breath. her smile fades a little, and when her eyes open again, there's an edge in them. "as for scouting, there's usually either we split up and take a side, and then meet up again - or we go on a round together to make sure nobody's vulnerable. honestly, I'm generally the one left to guard so this is a bit new and fun! and I'm totally open to ideas ma'am!" she said.

of course, she couldn't help but keep being respectful. since stormy hadn't specifically told cordelia to call her that, the blonde was going to keep her respect obvious. still, part of her longed to just be casual, and maybe make a new friend? either way, she was a bit nervous at how flimsy her plan was, but she drew on her experience to make sure the obvious holes were filled. and honestly, she was a bit hesitant that they even needed to scout, but she figured better safe then sorry! that and finding whatever was harassing the miners enough to ask for help would be a great boon! but for now, she was just happy she actually made it out here, and wasn't running away screaming in anxiety yet.

Despite Stormy's best efforts, it appears she has not been successful in calming down or relaxing the woman. She herself grows perhaps a little impatient or uneasy at Cordelia's blush, and the woman continues to babble once again.[break][break]

Instead of responding this time, she merely nods along so as to not snap or come across as harsh or rude.[break][break]

However, Stormy stops her at the repeated use of 'ma'am'. With one finger, she holds it up to silence the woman. Her face no longer holds quite the same amount of friendliness, but it's more than likely she's just focused on her duty rather than on making friends.[break][break]

"Just Stormy, please. Ma'am makes me sound old, and I'm definitely not old."[break][break]

A small smile cracks, but she is soon absorbed in a very still silence that has extended between them. Blissey has grown anxious, forcing the young Vulpix to sit behind her. The blind fox seems to shake in unease, as if sensing something that no one else had picked up on yet.[break][break]

Vulpix whines, breaking the silence, and that's when Barbaracle strikes. The NIGHT SLASH the wild Pokemon uses slices through Stormy's shirt, exposing skin and leaving slashed skin. With a cry of pain and surprise, Stormy jumps backward, looking around for where the Barbaracle had gone.[break][break]

It closed its eyes, waiting again to jump out at them. She's old, she's wise, and she knows exactly what she's doing.[break][break]

Blissey's HEAL PULSE begins to help stop Stormy's bleeding, but the smell of blood is already thick in the tunnel. The normal type sends off a THUNDERBOLT as well, and Stormy takes in a breath as the light illuminates the wild Pokemon.[break][break]

"She's there! Be careful!"[break][break]

the blonde's found out, that since her exile, she's become very sensitive to people. when stormy's hand raises, cordelia's voice immediately stops, after a slight stutter. her eyes go to the ground, and she nods. she doesn't speak since, but something crawls up her back - a feeling. and that's when it all went to hell in a hand basket faster then that time she tripped in meteor falls. the NIGHT SLASH strikes stormy, and then the smell of blood fills cordelia's nose, and her thoughts. she freezes, because she's no longer seeing the tunnel, but rather she's back out there, at slateport.

the scent of blood in the air as she bikes out of the place, and tries to help survivors. the hospitals as she goes around ticking lists of bodies and pokemon to living people and relatives. the visits to mount pyre. and the words of someone she holds in high esteem now. cordelia's green eyes close, and she wants to run away screaming. the urge to shut her hands over her ears is strong. all of this, because the scent of blood is so cloying - so familiar. but something stirrs inside the girl. something that hadn't been there before.

she will not back down this time.

she knows laus will take care of the miners. claudius is immediately at her side, and makes a concerned noise. but cordelia's smile is half-there, as if it was broken.

"caution is for those that have time." she said, a supernatural calm flying over her. she steps forward, thanking the light of the thunderbolt. "claudius. QUICK ATTACK, get it to follow you. when either of the others are ready to strike, HELPING HAND." she said. her words a soft whisper, that only her pokemon, and possibly stormy, heard. with a nod, the eevee was off, using it's quick attack to try and get the pokemon to focus on it.

no matter how old, or how wise, an annoying fly is still annoying. the irritation causes her to open her eyes, and focus her eyes on the fuzzy pokemon that keeps, irritatingly jostling her with attacks. leaping this far is perhaps commendable, but not today. casually, she waits, to deliver a CROSS CHOP to the pokemon - and it hits, sending the small eevee tumbling across the ground.

claudius gets up on his feet, because his trainer gave him a task and damn the rest. he will accomplish this task, if only to soothe the broken smile on her face. although he's dirty now, much to his irritation. if it wasn't an emergency and someone hadn't been hurt... he would have whined and protested otherwise. but here he was, letting out a small growl as he notices someone ready to strike. good. his body glows, as HELPING HAND goes out to whomever is to strike next - that will give them a stronger attack and he can't help but feel smug at that.

the fight begins it's next round - the players are set.

Stormy turns around, one hand holding her savaged arm. Blood trickles between her fingers but the pain is dull because her adrenaline is pumping. Her eyes catch Cordelia's, but the girl seems lost, like she isn't with them anymore. [break][break]

"Cordelia! Focus! I need your help, now is not the time to disappear on me!"[break][break]

The way she phrases it is aggressive and mean, but there's heart behind it. Stormy isn't out here to bully or belittle the woman, but she also didn't come down to these caves to be eaten by a Barbaracle.[break][break]

Suddenly, the girl changes from what Stormy interpreted as scared and afraid, to confident and brave. Taking a deep, relieved breath, Stormy turns back to the darkness and gestures to Blissey.[break][break]

"Ice beam along the walls where we saw it, draw it out."[break][break]

Before she can step forward to do just that, however, the Vulpix leaps out from between her legs, her staring, unseeing eyes are blank, staring at nothing, but they hold determination. [break][break]

She lets out a great big blast of fire in the form of a fire blast. The star-like shape spreads, lighting up the tunnel. Barbaracle stands in the light, stunned to have been discovered.[break][break]

Meanwhile, Cordelia's Pokemon have taken advantage of this, and used quick attack to draw it out. The wild Pokemon takes the bait, chasing after her Eevee. Vulpix ducks underneath the cross chop and startles when the fellow fox-type is caught by it. [break][break]

The Pokemon's helping hand comes in handy, however, as Blissey charges up another thunder bolt. The attack explodes against the rocky surface of the Pokemon, stunning it. It manages to paralyze the Pokemon, and it's as if the Vulpix can sense it.[break][break]

Malevolent energy surges in the tiny fox Pokemon, and despite its blindness, she seems to have a sixth sense. The hex is a direct hit, knocking the Barbaracle to its knees.[break][break]

In the pause, Blissey continues her heal pulse against the torn flesh of her master. Slowly but surely it stitches together and stops bleeding as profusely.[break][break]
