There was a dead man, dressed in an Aether Uniform, spread out on the white-tile floor; a body bag unzipped and thrown to the side spelled how it had been brought to him.[break][break]

Desmond Kelley was not here to examine a corpse. No, he was here to identify what it had brought. What had the Aether Foundation lost? What had Rocket gained?[break][break]

His cold stare would flick up from the body and to Alison Astor , waiting for her to state what had been gained. “This must not travel beyond this room—do you understand?” Of course she would.[break][break]

“I presume he was not carrying identification—that would be too short-sighted, though I do question why he traveled with this... strange pokemon you mentioned.”[break][break]

The Slateport Power-plant hummed, drowning out the noise as the overhead lights flickered—he had taken her down to the depths of the facility, where people did not venture.[break][break]

Alison pulls out a pokeball and releases the Type: Null. The chimeric pokemon lay on the floor unmoving.

"It's one of the most vicious pokemon I've seen. So I took the liberty of putting it to sleep ahead of time with Spores."

It wouldn't be waking up anytime soon. Alison had dosed it with enough spores to put a fully grown Mudsdale out of commission.

It was unlike anything he had ever seen.[break][break]

Rather than comment on the appearance of the Type:Null, Desmond bent his knees to crouch down before the creature; he balanced his weight on the balls of his feet as his fingers brushed through the black, coarse fur that covered only a portion of the pokemon's body.[break][break]

With his eyebrows furrowed, he let his thoughts brew in silence as he gently plucked a follicle of hair from its back, then a scale, and then a feather. Three separate samples from three separate portions of the body that felt worlds apart from one another. “If it is vicious, then it would be best to keep it to its capsule or in a secure location. We wouldn't want it to escape.”[break][break]

He placed them into their own vials, tucking them into his coat pocket.[break][break]

The characteristics of the creature make no sense—there is no sense of cohesion as his hand went from fur to scales, and then to feathers. The Chimera was unlike anything he had ever seen.[break][break]

“You've really stumbled across something,” and that was when his fingers would dip beneath the cusp of the helmet, feeling the creature underneath to confirm that it was not natural; it was an addition. “Now, what is this?”[break][break]

He would grasp the helmet, tilting up the unconscious pokemon's head to see where there was a latch. There was no mechanism. Instead, he found himself staring at a contraption that must have been welded shut. What dwelt beneath this mechanism could not be seen by the naked eye.[break][break]

Breaking it off would not be feasible—not without sacrificing the pokemon in the process.[break][break]

He would rub his brow, pushing back the stray hairs that dipped before his vision. “We'll extract whatever genetic information we can get from these samples—that can help us decipher where to go next,” and he could remember the colleges of his past that would have been more than eager to dissect this species to see what secrets it could have held.[break][break]

Desmond would not share their opinion. It would be frivolous to jeopardize a creature like this. It was better to preserve it and learn through observation.[break][break]

“I want you to keep a close eye on this one—get a notebook, something small that you can keep on your person at all times. Take notes. Make them extensive. Never let anyone see it—this is your science project, Miss Giovanni.”
