ex-rocket, and more importantly, an ex-member of rocket's four beast.

tracking one of them down was an easy feat when they've left footprints for the rocket grunts to follow, figuratively and practically. they've been big contributors to rocket, with their activities most likely recorded. all priam had to do was to work from the last place she was in and continue on from there.

and it brings them to the depths of slateport.

his arcanine sounds a loud roar that echoes through the city's alleyways, forcing any pokemon in the area to either run away or return to their pokeball. his espeon hung by his shoulder as he approached emma. he didn't know if she knew of his arrival or not, but being careful wasn't his strong suit anyways.

acting like there was no difference between having a backup or not, he'd initiate the conversation with the former rocket beast without getting defensive besides the initial roar.

Priam's approach to the mission gives Kingsley a forming headache for a handful of reasons, the least of which is the Arcanine's roar that rattles across his bones. He paces behind Priam, hands fit into the pockets of his jacket. His Froslass travels at his side, hands lifted to where mouth might have been.

He rolls a pokeball about in his pocket, surface smooth against his fingers. Kingsley offers a thin smile to the dark haired woman and a two fingered salute.

Slateport had been her home for a long time, and while she didn't stay in a traditional house on a hill filled with odds and ends that symbolized security and permanence, the run-down city had, in a way, become a beacon of safety.[break][break]

Of course, that beacon had been destroyed the moment Verdanturf and Fallarbor had been lost. [break][break]

The trail she had left had been intentional. For one thing, the beast had nothing to hide from Rocket. So far, none had been daring enough to find her, and why would they? Team Rocket had been wiped out, with only the few desperate stragglers left behind to pick up their broken pieces.[break][break]

Emma Wolfe had no pieces still under Rocket control. With Silas gone, she was free from her conditions and expectations, which meant she was free to do as she wished. And what better way than to leave a trail for either the people who trusted her and would seek out her assistance to find, or for the worst criminals with an axe to grind?[break][break]

A part of her was moderately surprised to hear the childish voice of Priam. She had only assumed the kid would run off and redeem himself, shed the bad light of Rocket and actually do some good. It was a shame to see him still wearing Rocket's colours, even if it was figuratively.[break][break]

The woman turns to meet the pair that decided to follow her through Slateport. A part of her is impressed they've come this far, but the other part is merely curious to see why they even bothered. As far as she's aware, she has had no quarrel with either of them and is unfamiliar of any atrocities they've committed.[break][break]

Her steely gaze slides over to Kingsley with toxic indifference at his compliment. Her lack of response is response enough.[break][break]

he makes an assumption from the rather unpleasant reaction she gave to kingsley.

"people told me to be careful around girls on their period. i'm just listenin' to everyone's advice, that's all." he ended his statement with a shrug.

she was a former beast of rocket. she probably killed people in cold blood before, and priam wouldn't be surprised if she would consider him a target for prying too much. he wouldn't do that though cause he came in prepared, or at least that's what he thought of.

a basic do's and don't's was given to him when approaching her. he probably already broke a bunch of them, but it did not bother the teen too much as there doesn't seem to be any problems as of yet.

she asks him a question. he delivers.

"i just need to ask a question though!" he turns back to the man behind him afterwards. "uh..."

he blanks out, forgetting the script already.

Emma ignores him, directing her attention almost exclusively to Priam. Kingsley feigns offense, pressing a hand to his chest as if her denial of attention had been a bullet to the heart. "You can't just say that Priam," he chides. "Women don't like to be reminded they're hormonal on their periods."

He lets Priam take over again only to watch the boy falter when it comes to what really matters. Kingsley rolls his eyes, not surprised. He steps forward and throws an arm around the younger Rocket's shoulders. Always one for theatrics, he points a finger gun in Emma's direction.

"What with Rocket's downfall and all," he says, smile a split in his face that shows a gleam of white teeth. It looks more like a houndoom's grimace. A warning. "We're just worried you might go around spilling former Rocket secrets. Betraying old members - like Priam and myself here, you see."

Desmond says to leave her alive. Kingsley doesn't see the point in it but he's here to follow orders.

Emma slow-blinks at the child, not surprised that he had said something so moronic and misogynistic, but disappointed in him regardless. [break][break]

She doesn't give the arrogant teen another glance, and instead turns to look at the obviously more mature and much more interesting individual. For a moment, Emma regrets not leaving Priam in that temple to die. She hadn't needed to rescue everyone from the fire, she had merely decided that letting several people die from stupidity was just as stupid.[break][break]

Irritation grows as Priam prattles on about nothing, eventually coming up empty-handed. It's quite disappointing and yet.. somewhat amusing to see that even after the horrors of Rocket influence, they still chose stupid children to do their dirty work for them.[break][break]

Emma listens, though doesn't feign any sense of interest, as Kingsley speaks. She's positive she's never even met the man before, but she catches onto his pearly white smile, and with it the warning.[break][break]

"What coward send a child and his keeper to tell me to keep my mouth shut. Has Rocket lost all courage? When the League cornered you all, they must have snipped your balls, too."[break][break]

Her eyes narrow, the only real indication she's annoyed with the pair of fools. She might even find it funny that the pair of them are so bold to approach her, as if they have any sort of dominance or control over her actions anymore. They were so low on the food chain she had barely noticed them even when Rocket had meant something.[break][break]

"Rest assured, I don't waste my time with idiots such as yourselves. Your petty crimes mean nothing to me."[break][break]

his blood boils. the trash talk does not go unnoticed by the boy. it wasn't unexpected for the wildcard to react violently to it.

"oi! you can't talk to my boy kings like that!"

the espeon, emotionally connected to his trainer, reads priam's will from his trainer's shoulder. his eyes glow white and forces emma down to the ground with psychic. a strong force would hold her to the ground as they talked.

"we were trying to be nice about this! the fuck is this hostility about?" he takes a tactical baton out, expanding it to its full size, before taking steps back until he hits kingsley as if to get the grown ass man to restrain him.

"that's it. hold me back, kings. hold me back! i'm gonna go sicko mode on this bitch!"

Kingsley listens to Emma's taunts with the same smile, eyebrows lifting as venom spills from her lips. His expression is patronizing at best but where Kingsley is unphased, Priam latches onto the bait. Before he can say anything, the boy is unsheathing his weapon. Kingsley doesn't move even when the boy's back knocks into him.

He does as Priam orders. One arm slings around the Rocket's throat, pinning him in a weak chokehold. Enough to restrain, not enough to hurt.

"So, you done? Got it all out, Emma?" Kingsley asks with an almost genuine concern. "Want to say anything else? You could say look at these two idiots with no backbone, just doing what they're told! Look at me, a strong independent woman living her life to the best of her ability! A former Beast - except - "

He looks down at Priam. He hums.

"Except when it came to killing Stone, nobody chose you, did they, love? They chose this idiot child and a different Beast because they viewed you as so useless."

His grip loosens on Priam and he tsks in shame.

"You're talking so big, Emma, for someone who cried over a league member. Nikolai, wasn't it?" He tilts his head to the side and blinks, dark lashes dusting across his cheeks. "You're talking so big for someone who was forced into Rocket. Let me see if I remember why - hm - something to do with your brother? You're just talking so big that I wonder if you can back it up. See, the problem with being so weak is I'm not sure you could stop us if we wanted to kill the things you care about."

Her muscles tense and her body suddenly can't move. The unmistakable hold of a Pokemon's psychic ability freezes her in place. Her eyes narrow in anger this time, the only true emotion she's shown thus far.[break][break]

Priam reacts the way a petulant child would, throwing a tantrum because something doesn't go his way or someone speaks down to him. His personality has changed completely since the last time she had seen him, where he had been no more than a thief charming his way past pretty patrons.[break][break]

What surprises her more than that, however, is the knowing tongue of Kingsley Arrow. From appearances, she can't say she recognizes him, but by the way he spells his words, he knows more about her than she'd care for. [break][break]

"If the shoe fits, I guess."[break][break]

She says indifferently, attempting a shrug.[break][break]

Her eyes remain half-lidded, bored. She's not afraid of them, despite their best attempts at intimidation. She almost laughs when he brings up the death of Stone. As if she cares.[break][break]

"They wanted to make a scene, to make it bloody. They wanted it messy, but I don't do messy. That's Dorian's thing, not mine. I could care less."[break][break]

Emma's lips curl into a small smile as she watches Kingsley. He's bringing up pieces of her past that she preferred to stay hidden, but it didn't matter now. Those restraints that had secured her to Rocket's control, their mind-games, they were over.[break][break]

"Have you always been Dominic's little pet puppy, do you come running to his every beck and call? All of this talk you're bringing means nothing to me. You wanna know why I was forced into Rocket? Why they had to threaten my brother in order to ensure my loyalty? Because they needed me.. They wanted me so bad they went to every length to get me. What about you?"[break][break]

Her brow quirks at the widening of his grin. He's taunting her, but she's not sure how he plans to intimidate her. As far as they were aware, she had nothing left to protect. Her brother had been killed in the raids on Verdanturf and Fallarbor. It had been an accident, but it meant her leash was cut.[break][break]

once he feels kingsley's hold, he lashes out and swings his weapon recklessly, hitting nothing but the air in front of him. he calms down though, as soon as it was loosened, rubbing his throat with his hand as if to soothe it.

"they wanted me so bad they went every length to get me," he repeated in a mocking manner. "you're not special, emma. everyone has their sappy backstory, and yours isn't even that original!"

he doesn't mention the exact reason as to why he was in rocket, but a lot of people were blackmailed into joining, him included.

"let me think of mine though." he takes his toy and returns it back to where he got it from, pondering for a second before coming up with an idea that wasn't as foreign for people who share their background. "i needed money to live, or else i die."

very original and creative, but not necessarily false.

he ends his statement with a smile.

As Emma continues her taunts, Kingsley can feel himself growing bored of this game. He waits until she's finished before stepping forward, trusting Priam to keep her pinned with the psychic. He looks down at the woman, smile dropping. Kingsley squats and brushes a curl of hair from Emma's face.

"You act as if you ever had a choice," he says. "If they told you to leave a room painted in blood, you would do it or else. And you're acting as if us coming here is because we're someone's little bitch? Darlin', that's the way Rocket had always been before the whole 'Silas is dead' thing happened. Not really sure what you're tryin' to get at, sweetheart."

He smooths a thumb over the side of her cheek.

"And I wouldn't be bragging about that, either, Emma. If you were forced into Rocket, it's because you were stupid enough to get caught." He smiles with a toothy grin. "Now then - I'm acting of my own accord because I've got no place to go with Rocket gone. But traitors are traitors and I don't trust you to not sell us out for something to gain. That's just the way the world is. I did enjoy playing Dominic's bitch though. I don't get to be bottom too often."

His hand slips down. He grabs Emma by the throat, nails biting into pale skin. He holds it tight, enough to hurt. If she tries to talk, he presses a hand over her mouth.

"Anyways. We're getting off topic with this whole back and forth insulting thing. I thought we could have a nice little chit chat but then you went and got all hostile and mean! And now I really can't trust you because you don't seem to know your place. So I'm going to give you an idea of what exactly is gonna happen if you fuck me over, babe."

Kingsley stands again. His hand slips to Emma's hair, fingers curling tight within the inky strands. He tilts her head back and for a moment, admires the animal like gold of her eyes. With a low hum, he slams her face down and his knee upward.

At this point, Emma has completely tuned out the arrogant child who continues to squawk and swing his sword like some spoiled child. Rocket let a trained assassin, a professional killer such as herself, go without a hitch because they didn't trust her. But they trusted some dumb kid wielding a sword who still clearly needed parental guidance.[break][break]

What a total downgrade.[break][break]

She is repulsed by Kingsley's hands on her face, the gentle sweep of his finger pulling her hair back. It's all niceties, the same gentle hand that trappers use when they know their prey can't turn on them.[break][break]

"Silas may not be pulling the strings anymore, but someone's certainly still pulling yours."[break][break]

Her eyes are indifferent, there's a burn within them but it betrays no real emotion. She has absolutely nothing to prove to him, and never had. His position meant nothing to her back then, as she had only taken orders from Silas himself. The Beasts had once been a feared band of Rockets, but clearly, that wasn't the case anymore.[break][break]

Kingsley's hand wraps around her neck, his nails biting into her skin, pinching it. It hurts, but she doesn't dare suck in a breath to make that obvious. Instead, she stares back into his piercing blue eyes while his hand covers her mouth. She knows what's coming because she hears the preparation breath he takes, that quick inhale to prepare for his next action.[break][break]

Pain explodes on her face, she can feel the white-hot feeling of a cut on her cheek. Blood trickles to the ground, she sucks it between her teeth, anger building up as a dull pain inside of her body. She spits a gob of blood and flesh from her mouth. She bit her cheek in the process.[break][break]

"Do you feel better?"[break][break]

he stares at kingsley as he spoke. bottom? he'll have to ask him what he meant by that later afterwards. the thought eventually fades, returning his sight to the scene.

he watches the display of violence without any change in his expression. he has grown accustomed to this. abuse was to be expected to anyone who doesn't cooperate in rocket, and emma should be aware of it.

"i'd steal your pokemon right now to make sure you won't try to get back at us," he grumbled. the kleptomaniac in him wanted to take them while she was restrained by his espeon. he clicks his tongue, continuing the statement. "but i'm nice."

he has to be consistent with his actions somehow, after all.

A hollow sound rings into the air: the snap of cartilage where his knee connects. He worries, for only a moment, that he's given something away, said something he shouldn't have. But Emma is no doubt continuing her taunts and he won't reward them.

His foot rests on the ground but Kingsley keeps his fingers curled into her hair. His nose crinkles.

"Aw, come on - why would I feel better?" he hums. "I hate hurting defenseless little girls. This is really killing me inside."
[break][break]
His grip loosens as he moves to stand behind Emma.
[break][break]
"She can keep her Pokemon," he says to Priam, hand slipping away to rest on her shoulder. "It's not like we have a use for them anymore." He leans down to catch her by the arm, pulls it back against the weight of psychic. It makes the entire process more difficult but it's manageable.

"You probably shouldn't watch, Priam. You know, since you're a child."
[break][break]
He rests a foot on Emma's back. Kingsley begins to hum a song, a cheerful tune that is in opposition of the moment. His lashes dust across his cheeks. As he hums, he pulls. His foot presses into her back.

He pulls.
[break][break]
He pulls.
[break][break]
The song carries on.
[break][break]
And then there is a pop: a needle into a balloon, a piece of gum bursting, bone pulled from socket.

Kingsley lets go. He is still humming.

"I think we're done here, love."

Pain has never been her friend, but it's also never been her enemy. She had grown accustomed to it, because you couldn't deliver pain without also receiving it. There was a balance.[break][break]

So when his fingers remain tangled in her hair and blood drips down into her lap, staining her clothes and smattering her appearance, she still looks beautiful. She retains her wildness and poise and determination because this is nothing to her. The pain she feels is nothing compared to the pain and the struggle she's already lived through.[break][break]

Even when he pulls her arm back, pulling it beyond it's range of function, she remains unreadable. Priam's threat to steal her Pokemon falls on deaf ears, because the thunder in her head is too loud for her to hear past it.[break][break]

And then she screams.[break][break]

But something else does too. Her arm is pinned in it's position by the psychic, unable to drop to her side in defeat. All around them windows smash, the walls of the building tremble, and sound waves crash through the air between them. It's magnified because of their close quarters, and the noise almost makes her ears bleed.[break][break]

She screams now because of the pain in her shoulder and her nose, because of the anger and the hatred she feels that's bubbled up past it's breaking point. But something else screams, too.[break][break]

The boomburst continues to rip away the walls, peeling paint and drywall and pushing dirt and glass. It reverberates endlessly around them pushing Emma's body towards the two men. But at the same time, it's probably already thrown them and the Espeon backwards as well. [break][break]

Black claws wrap around Emma's good arm, hoisting her into the air. From the same place the Noivern arrived, it soon disappears with her master in her grasp. [break][break]

Rocket had nothing to fear from the League because it was more likely the Beast was coming for them herself.[break][break]
