the abbiati may have a talent when it came to taming and training water pokemon, but fire types were an entirely different story. olivia was rubbing the bridge of her nose as the fire bird did a little dance with her stupid mutated pelliper. maybe it was the fact they were birds. she really needed to get in contact with Alexei Ivanov about their insubordination; for now, however, she had Balder Schwartz. this pokemon was native to his home land so perhaps he could help her manage the beast.

behind her, the sound of construction could be heard as the finishing touches were being done on silver spire.

"In the end, you never told me where you got that Oricorio. And I see that the Pelipper from our meeting is going well." Balder was arriving from behind Olivia, Ash resting on his shoulder. When he had been requested by Olivia to help her handle a pokemon, he was somewhat surprised. It was rare that the girl asked anyone for help to begin with. Which showed that she was at her wits end about what to do now.[break][break]

Balder stood beside the lady, analysing the two creatures. Both of them were dancing and having fun, whereas their trainer seemed to be about to give up on this endeavor. "How much do you know about Oricorio? And how do you train your normal water pokemons normally?" Hearing her trainer talk, Ash yawned and observed the two creatures fooling around, wondering what would happen.

"i know they are from your motherland." she admitted with pursed lips. two pokemon came from the water and her two pokemon continued dancing. her green one didn't do much else but dance; yet the raging bull was hit with fiery feathers from her oricorio's dance. interesting. the bull backed away in a daze and olivia tossed a pokeball at it. she glanced back at balder to answer his second question, "in truth, water type pokemon just feel called to me and my kin. they are quite easy to tame with little training needed, but this one." olivia jerked a thumb at the red bird. "is far more difficult."

the pelliper paid no mind to the disturbing pokemon and continued the little jig. olivia sighed and asked, "what would you recommend?"

So it really was because she was having a hard time with the birds... As two pokemons emerged from the water, Ash decided to move and jumped down from Balder's shoulder, using the Wormadam's body as a landing pad. Instants later, she was burning the grass pokemon, to which Balder captured to ensure the pokemon wouldn't suffer from Ash's torment too long.[break][break]

"Well, here's my theory. Water pokemons are attracted to you because you remind them of the sea, of their natural habitat. That's why you got an easier time with them." Ash returned beside her trainer's side, almost looking triumphant and proud of what she did. She then rubbed her leg against Balder's leg, making him go down and rub her head. "Still, it doesn't mean it's impossible for you to train other types. The best way is to try and understand them, to go along with what they like. In an Oricorio's view point, the most important thing is to dance and be graceful. And I do believe you got the potential to do just that."

olivia watched her idiotic birds dance on and the last word that came to mind was... graceful. "you flatter me so, balder; but i would not really call that." olivia began, glacier eyes glancing at dumb and dumber dancing it up. she sighed and continued, "anywhere near graceful; although i do believe i can try something." she began to whistle a tune. simple, pleasant, reminiscent of calm day on the beach. both of her birds changed their dance, and began to slow their pace.

until a fur covered ball hurled itself at the pair in a rage. curious, she increased the tempo of her little whistling song, and her pokemon went into a frenzy. her pelliper slashed with its green wing attack while the red bird used air cutter, easily knocking the pokemon out. "well... that... worked?" she asked/stated more so to herself than anyone else. olivia lobbed a pokeball at the fallen monkey thing, and turned to balder, asking, "thoughts?"

the two birds returned to their dance.

Olivia assimilated his suggestion rather quickly, starting to whistle to give a rythm to her pokemons. This tactic seemed to have been effective, as the Oricorio responded in kind, using one of his move to match the beat of the song. What was odd, however, was the Pelipper. The bird shouldn't normally be this reactive to sound, but it seemed more like it was following along the Oricorio to try and have more fun. [break][break]

Before Balder could void his opinion, another pokemon appeared. A Stunkfisk. Its typing was a disadvantage to Ash, a fire pokemon. And knowing his Cyndaquil, she would go and be reckless to try and overwhelm the pokemon, even if she was weak to it. Bad idea. Before the pokemon could rush to battle, Balder called it back and stored it upon his belt. Instead, he brought out one of his new pokemons: Caliburn, the Honedge.[break][break]

The creature wrapped it's cloth around the arm of his owner, letting the hild rest in the hand of Balder. A symbol of trust surely, as the man seemed unfazed from this maneuver. "Ace." As he whispered this single word, the edge of the sword began to shine a light blue hue. With a quick jump forward, Balder brought down the sword against the Stunkfisk before it could unleash any moves. He then proceeded to capture it with an empty pokeball before returning towards Olivia.[break][break]

"You caught on quickly. While your Pelipper seems to only be tagging along for the fun ride, it looked like the Oricorio was enjoying it. Of course, singing or tagging along with the dance might actually make it happier, and lead you to a better understanding of each other. That way, you'll be able to fight side by side." Caliburn unwrapped itself from around Balder's arm and began to float beside his trainer, awaiting further orders.[break][break]

olivia nodded along in agreement to balder's words. perhaps a more lax and gentle hand would be needed in dealing with a pokemon from an island of tranquility and relaxation. as she watched her birds dance to their own tune, olivia noted, "you've grown, balder, so much since that fated day on the beach." her ocean eyes turned to the man in question, taking him in for all his might. "well said, balder. your talent as a trainer shines brighter now than it did before, and i am grateful to have you by my side. you have been every loyal not only to me, but sootopolis as well."

and it was true. as a gym trainer he had been taking on more responsibilities as olivia's schedule grew ever busier: battling challengers, aiding with physical labor around the city, signing off on things that would otherwise require olivia's presence. the people of the city had, as they grew to respect olivia, admired the strength of balder. "which is why i want you to take my place as gym leader." olivia said at last, looking up at the mountain of a man.

"it's been approved by the council already - by my hand in fact." she added with a thin smile. "i will be replacing miss morningstar as the sootopolis representative as she is out of commission so to speak." olivia turned to face the sea as the waves lapped up on the shore and remarked, "you will have access to most of silverspire to continue its use as a gym, of course, though my private quarters and a few towers will remain under my control for the crown to work in."

olivia sat in the sand, watching the ocean with her bright blue eyes, before saying cooly, "however, i will retain leadership of the city itself as far as politics and such goes. no need to tilt the populace with change in governance. should you become the gym leader i will, of course, take into consideration your own concerns." she shifted her gaze to look back at balder a warm smile on her face, "i do hope you will accept."
