As the group approached the rather large Ursaring pilfering the berry trees greedily, Thomas motioned to the others to approach with caution. They had the element of surprise on their side, but whether or not they'd immediately attack, or decide to take advantage of the opening was completely on them.

"Assume the Ursaring has Guts or Quick Feet. Try your best not to inflict some sort of Status ailment on the thing.", Thomas would quietly and sternly remind the group. As he spoke, Thomas would keep his volume at a minimum, in order not to ruin the element of surprise. Thomas would beckon to Balder Schwartz to join him in forming the front line, while gesturing @callista and Stormy Silph to hang back.

Ripper would look at the large Ursaring as it pilfered the trees of their berries. The bloodthirsty Scizor grinned excitedly, being more than happy to get a slice of the action. "Ripper, fortify.", Thomas ordered the Scizor quietly. As much as the Scizor wanted to call out to the creature, age and experience taught him better. The Scizor would bolster his Defenses with Iron Defense, further hardening his steel body for what would be to come.

Reports of a large bear monster destroying the forest were coming in hot, being declared on many different networks. Of course, this reached the hears of many people, including a few gym leaders. 3 of them to be exact. While this was a massive coincidence that those 3 gathered together, Balder was still glad to have Stormy backing him up in this battle. Sadly, he didn't know much about the third gym leader. He also knew a bit about Callista, as she wished to challenge his gym, out of what he remembered.[break][break]

But now he knew a bit about him. Thomas was the bossy kind. He had decided by himself to take upon the role of leader. Balder sighed as he heard the man give his orders. Even if the creature had none of these abilities that the gym leader mentioned, nothing proved that ailments would work against it. It's possible that the overgrown Ursaring was a lot different then the regular specie and held so many surprises that regular tactics would fail. They needed to act outside of the box.[break][break]

"Would be nice if we discussed the leader thingy before we got here. To begin with, this Ursaring might be different from the others. It's possible he has an unknown ability or will act in ways we do not expect his normal kind to do. So I'd suggest staying vigilant, observe his moves and adapt accordingly. Stormy, Miss Lovell, please remain behind us. We'll cover you both."[break][break]

As he said those words, Balder released his Chesnaught from the pokeball. Nuts went to place itself beside the Scizors, looking at it and nodding. Time to set up the field. "Nuts, send your seeds in the bear's path. We'll suck his energy to help us win this fight." Without any noise, the creature raised his arms, sending seeds flying from his forearms to cover the soil in the giant Ursaring's path. The seeds blossomed almost instantly, waiting for the enemy to arrive in their midst to begin their work.[break]

With the recent reports of a wild, rampaging Ursaring causing immense damage and drastic loss of harvest for the nearby town, Stormy had gladly signed herself up to be one of the four strong-armed trainers willing to risk being stomped on or eaten in order to try and drive away the wild Pokemon.[break][break]

Naturally, it seemed that Thomas had fit himself into the leader role. He had been an incredible asset and ally to her previously during the rescue attempt for Dahlia Goode, and so she felt at ease allowing him to take the lead and remind them of some very important mechanics the Ursaring likely carried. She did, however, find herself grinding her teeth at his motion for her and the other woman next to her to stay behind.[break][break]

Stormy opens her mouth to speak, only for Balder to interject with a subtle but passive-aggressive suggestion.[break][break]

"Still, at least someone here knows that the common Ursaring can do, I sure didn't. As long as we stay together and work together, this should be a simple assignment."[break][break]

She watches as Thomas releases his Scizor and Balder his Chesnaught. Both formidable and tanky Pokemon, she was impressed. She would glance at Miss Lovell curiously before releasing her own Pokemon, an Alolan-form Marowak. It would hopefully prove useful against the Ursaring due to it's partial ghost typing.[break][break]

"Marowak, let's help set up with bonemerang, grab it's attention."[break][break]

The Pokemon slaps it's bone-stick against the ground, scraping it against the dirt almost as if it were lighting a match. The end of her bone lights on fire and spins it, as if performing a small act, or maybe she's just hyping herself up. With a grunt, the Pokemon whips the bone around. It makes a wide arch as it nears the Ursaring.[break][break]

"gallade, once more, CLOSE COMBAT!" another order was issued. gallade obeyed without fail, following with a series of physical assaults. the pokemon had no plans of letting up against those cadis deemed an enemy. "let's keep at it team!" though he wasn't assigned to this mission with the gym leader trio, he couldn't help it. as a 'league official' and gym trainer, it was his duty to be of assistance to his superiors. if he were stepping out of place, dawn was prepared to be reprimanded by the three.

Thomas turned his gaze to Balder, who brought up that the Ursaring could've been a deviation from the norm. Stormy would interject that at least someone knew how a normal Ursaring operated. "You're right, Balder, this one could be something that completely deviates from the norm. But until we know for certain, I'd recommend exercising caution, taking the usual precautions, while watching for any surprises.", he'd tell the group.

Thomas watched as the Ursaring was seeded, and assailed by the Bonemerang, as well as Gallade's Close Combat. But with the tree acting as a food source for the Ursaring, it had a food source to go off of. So while Dawn seemed optimistic, Thomas was a bit more cautious, especially with Ursaring having the benefit of a Belly Drum boost. Fortifying further was tempting, though if there ever was a time to act, it was now.

"Ripper. Bug Bite!", Thomas called out to the Scizor.

The Scizor rushed up to the Ursaring, his pincer opened to deliver a devastating clamp down on the Ursaring, with the added benefit of stealing any Berries the Ursaring immediately had on hand. Though the attack itself was light, being a Technician, the clamping attack was greatly enhanced.

Stormy glances over her shoulder, expecting the young woman to her side to have acted. Instead, that woman is replaced with a mysterious young man. He takes charge immediately, and with great enthusiasm. His Gallade presses forward, utilizing it's natural advantages to hit the Ursaring hard with a close combat.[break][break]

The target in question, however, doesn't seem the least bit phased by the onslaught. He barely seemed to have slowed down or grown weaker, instead taking the time to reach for another berry. He beats his belly like a drum, and it appears that it greatly increases his abilities in some way. [break][break]

Gallade takes charge again as per Dawn's orders, attempting another close combat. Thomas makes a comment, reiterating that they must proceed with caution. She nods firmly, agreeing with him. The sheer size of the Ursaring alone should be warning enough.[break][break]

Marowak takes a step back after her bonemerang returns to her hand with a satisfying slap. Her eyes are narrowed and she waits for further instruction, watching as the Scizor zooms in to use bug bite. [break][break]

Stormy, ever the one to be more rash and aggressive, automatically comes up with the idea to just set the berry tree on fire - thereby removing the Pokemon's source of energy. She hesitates however, worried that by doing so she might aggravate the Pokemon that is otherwise not interested in his attackers in the slightest. And, by setting the tree ablaze, she might cause further damage and be reprimanded.[break][break]

"Marowak, flame wheel!"[break][break]

The Pokemon starts into a dead sprint, eventually curling herself into a whirling ball of flame. She launches herself up a hill of grass, using the momentum of her jump to hopefully deal damage to her opponent.[break][break]

The assault began. While Stormy did the first offensive move, a new helper appeared with a Gallade, jumping right in with a Close Combat. Confused, Balder looked behind them, noticing that the girl that had come with them up until now had simply vanished. Had she ran away in fear or something? Can't exactly blame her, to have prioritized her life in a situation such as this. But at least, someone joined them rapidly.[break][break]

As they attracted the attention of the hungry bear, the Ursaring responded with a Belly Drum. A mover that, while sacrificing a part of his hp, allows to boost the attack to the maximum. And with that monster of a bear? It was bound to be deadly. Plus, it kept on feeding itself, possibly healing itself in the process. This might end up being a tougher fight then expected.[break][break]

While the new arrival cheered them up as he pressed on the assault, Thomas responded that Balder was possibly right, but that they should still act under the assumption that the creature retained his normal variant's capabilities. The Alolan Gym Leader almost wanted to put another comment, but it was useless at this point. Bickering at this point would simply hinder their battle capacities, it was best to simply focus on the fight.[break][break]

While Stormy's Marowak and Thomas' Scizors went to assault the bear and cut his supplies of berry, Balder observed the monster's movement. Surely after this assault, the gargantuan ursaring would focus his attention on them and start an onslaught. Balder looked behind to talk to Stormy. "Have your Marowak retreat behind Nuts, the Ursaring should be getting ready to assault us now."[break][break]

Nuts the Chesnaught roared and was about to charge in too, without his trainer's accord. Balder noticed his partner move and whistled right away. "Nuts, set up your shield, we'll counter afterwards. We need to reduce the target's offensive power." With a grunt, the Chesnaught stood his ground and fused his arms together to form a shield about as big as him. Were the bear to attack him physically, he would be met with hardened spikes.

SCIZOR RENDERS THE BRANCH bare with its attack. infuriated, the ursaring allows its amplifying anger to distract himself as the party continues their onslaught. after thomas' and his ace cleave the way for the party, dawn's gallade and stormy's alolan marowak follow up with their fierce attacks.[break][break]

however, the ursaring's growing strength drums through the air on a current of unease. balder prepares himself, ordering chesnaught to shift into a defensive stance before the ghostly marowak.[break][break][break]

dirt and debris rattle off its exposed roots as the ursaring wields the tree like a gargantuan mallet. the bear is poised to sweep the entire team, trainers included, with the back-breaking trunk of his tree.

Thomas grins as the branch of Berries is stripped by the Bug Bite. The Ursaring, of course, is upset by the the fact that it's been deprived of its berries. The onslaught from Gallade and Marowak further add to the giant Ursaring's woes. Thomas, however, knows better than to call it a win, as the Ursaring is still empowered by the earlier Belly Drum, and even with Ripper's fortified defenses, would cause some serious damage, should it retaliate.

Indeed, the ensuing Earthquake causes Ripper's footing to shift. Thomas struggles to maintain his balance, with Ripper grimacing as he does his best to take the ensuing attack. Once it has all settled, Thomas looks to see that while Stormy's Marowak is fine, thanks to the protection granted by Balder's Chesnaught, the Ursaring had done considerable harm to the Chesnaught. Meanwhile, Dawn's Gallade was looking to be in bad shape.

On top of that, a barrier had been erected around the giant Ursaring.

"You wanna play? We'll play!", called out Thomas with sudden ferocity.

Thomas would pull out an ornate pocket watch as his footing stabilized. Opening it up revealed a Keystone in the center of it. Upon pressing down with it with his thumb, the Scizorite attached to Ripper's chest glowed, causing his body to take on a glow in turn. An orb of rainbow energy cocooned the Scizor briefly, before shattering to reveal that the Scizor had taken on a new form: Mega Scizor.

"Bug Bite!", Thomas called out to the Mega Evolved Pokemon.

With a bloodthirsty grin, Ripper pounced towards the Ursaring, elongated pincer extended, before it would open up to reveal a frightful set of 'teeth.' It would do its best to clamp down on the Ursaring, despite the barrier around it. As with before, Technician enhanced its power. Perhaps thanks to the backing of Mega Evolution, its Technician enhancement had gained some futher effectiveness.

Stormy cringes, throwing her hands up to protect her face as the Ursaring retaliates, slamming the other three Pokemon around like ragdolls. It very suddenly seems futile, like all of their efforts may have been fruitless, as it were.[break][break]

Marowak remains unscathed thanks to Balder's shield tactic. The Chesnaught, however, was abused by the Ursaring's relentless attack.[break][break]

"Just keep fighting it, Marowak, it's the best we can do."[break][break]

Stormy feels the lump in her throat grow, that fear that they might fail. If they could even just weaken it enough for it to wander away so they could deal with it later.. they didn't have to faint it.[break][break]

She glances at Dawn who sits the round out to protect himself, but she can't blame him. In one hit, his Gallade had almost entirely been wiped out.[break][break]

Marowak readies another flame wheel, sending his flaming bonemerang forward to hopefully stop the Ursaring from advancing.[break][break]

The shield had worked at first, blocking a massive earthquake generated from the Ursaring. But that dragon, seeing his assault partially fail, rushed Nuts and delivered a flurry of attacks, thanks to Play Rough. If it wasn't for the Leech Seed... It's possible Nuts would've fallen right there. That bear was definitely too dangerous to be allowed to run amok any longer.[break][break]

As everyone began to attack, the bear took a huge tree in its arms, ready to use it like a baseball bat. If they weren't going to find a way to make him drop it, they might end up defeated on the next hit. Things were definitely getting dangerous, and desperate. But... there was only one possible way out of this.[break][break]

"NUTS, AIM FOR HIS ARMS!" The Chesnaught, still reeling from the merciless assault he had just received, shook his head to recover his senses. Hearing his master's order, the juggernaught began stepping forward before running. Getting close to the bear, Nuts jumped in the air and brought his hands together, forming something similar to an hammer. As gravity did its job to bring him back down towards the bear, the grass pokemon brought his arms down, using Hammer Arm on Ursaring's arms and hopefully making him drop the tree.
