a bar means one thing: booze.

fernando finds himself mingling among the commoners, resorting to frequenting an every man's bar. there's no cover, just an id check, which makes it appealing in the sense that there's no barrier to entry. tonight is no different. the place is thriving, drowned out by the collective sound of idle chatter between tables. wild banter provides the occasional crescendo, proving a lively place for the patrons to unwind after a hard day's shift.

alone, fernando find himself watching the television displayed up against the bar, lazily feeding himself the occasional salted peanut. a glass of scotch finds itself nursed throughout the program, gradually running adry at the mention of team rocket. they're all the rage these days and no one is more familiar with their operations than he, himself. each and every one of their public exploits are documented on his cloud, piecing together their members and patterns. it'll only be a matter of time before he has enough data points to talk himself into making a move.

until then, this'll do, killing another night with a glass of liquid courage.

Bailey knew what to do with her free time. Her bike rumbled with each twist of the throttle as she navigated through the tight spaces of the Lower District.[break][break]

As another day came to a close, the officer was not ready to let it end. As night graced the skies and her shift ended, she refused to return to another empty motel room. She would drag it out; the day could end when the sun would grace the shoreline of Slateport's empty beaches. Then, only then, would she call it a quits.[break][break]

The bar was crowded. She parked in her usual spot, dismounting from her motorcycle as the engine released its death rattle. The keys were tucked into her jacket, her ID was shown, and she was ushered into a tight space that smelled of smoke and mistakes; Bailey felt at peace.[break][break]

“Rum and coke,” was her greeting to the bartender as she sat at one of the available stools. If the world was going to do her in, then she wanted to greet it with a drink.[break][break]

The drink met her hands. “Thanks,” and she took the first sip, trying to mind her own business as the man next her waxed down the rest of his scotch.

another drink. another session. and fernando slowly starts to feel the liquor strangle his control. a lack of an earlier meal just makes it all the easier for his inhibitions to dwindle. there's a faint glow to his face, a stark contrast to the pale stoic expression he carries. it makes him seem welcoming, total opposite to his usual threatening persona.

"peanut?"

it has enough of an effect to make him uncharacteristically approachable. the only part of his personality that persists is his assertiveness. fernando doesn't take no for an answer. he expects a yes and slide over the tray proactively. his eyes never leave the telly.

"name's fernando."

The tray was in front of her.[break][break]

Bailey drank from her glass, unable to feel the burn of the alcohol as long as there was soda to tame it. She liked the deception. Without the burn, she could slip into drunkenness without the aftertaste haunting her; the taste of rum would always remind her of previous hangovers and previous mistakes. Rum and coke was nothing but sugar laced with poison, as far as she was concerned–but the coke would hide the taste.[break][break]

There was a light tap as Bailey brought down her glass–now half-empty–as the bar snack was pushed. “I'm allergic,” and her eyes flickered to the man as he continued to stare at the television. “But, thanks.” This was a conversation that she had experienced before. A few drinks could loosen the tongue and make people more welcoming than they usually were.[break][break]

“Name's Bailey.” She returned the courtesy and felt her gaze lock onto the screen. More news about Team Rocket. “What'd they do now?” Or was it another news segment speculating what the organization was planning? Was it more fear-mongering?

fernando makes no further inquiry. the peanut debacle will forever fester in the deep recess of his mind. he'll have to create an app for it, or have one of his developers do it. surely, creating a sensor that detects if someone is allergic couldn't be too hard, right? hell if he'd know-- he's a shit developer, only understanding it at the highest of levels.

"another heist. jewelry store. rustboro." fernando slips another peanut between his fingers. this time, he grinds it against the counter, leaving it as dust. "it's about time we do something about this. can't wait until next week." fernando lets the details loose because he knows it doesn't matter. bailey is just one of many. should his slip up proof consequential then he'll just have to hunt her down. he has his ways.

Bailey took another gulp, disappointed when her glass ran dry–it went down too fast. Some people could sit back and nurse a drink for hours on end. Bailey was too impatient to bother with that nonsense. She flipped a hand to the bartender. “Could I get another?” It would take time for the liquor to ease its way into her system. Until then, she was content with leaning against the counter, wondering what to do with herself.[break][break]

Maybe she should have gone home.[break][break]

Bailey opted to suck on an ice cube, returning the empty glass to the counter. The ice was cold; it cracked when her jaw applied pressure. She did not have the time to let it sit and melt. As her teeth crunched through the ice, her eyes lingered on the television, taking in the broadcast with a tinge of interest. If the robbers had any sense, they would have hopped onto the first ship heading to Dewford... and, maybe, the next ship to Slateport.[break][break]

Wouldn't that be a funny coincidence?[break][break]

Bailey does not read into Fernando's words. She presumed he was speaking in broader terms, referring to the League; but, the mention of “new week,” sizzled in the back of her mind. It had been... specific?

[break][break]“Got anything in mind?” She humored the use of the word “us,” knowing damn well that he was not referencing her.[break][break]

Her second drink arrived. It perished just as quickly as its predecessor.

"i do analytics. pretty goddamn good at it too." there's no need to be humble. fernando's spent his prime learning how to wield big data. now it's his greatest weapon, allowing him to attack more thoroughly than any battle. it allows him to strike where it hurts the most-- in their privacy settings. family, occupation, history, it all becomes a liability and one that's easily exploited if the right someone lacks just enough morals.

fernando matches her with another drink. he slips it down sip by sip. not even a quarter is gone by the time she slams hers down. it makes him chuckle, bemused by her vigor. "they're bound to hit rustboro next week. i'll be waiting for them. we'll all be. they don't stand a chance."

“Neat,” Bailey replied, not wanting to linger on a subject that she knew nothing about. The fuzzy feeling was starting to emerge. As her mind slowly drifted into the clouds and a warmth erupted from the pit of her stomach, she wondered if it would be wise to ask for another. One more drink wouldn't hurt...tonight. It would hurt tomorrow.[break][break]

He tried to match her speed, which was unfair to him. The dude was trying to chug down scotch. At least she had something to chase down her poison of choice. “Don't mind me.” It was a warning. She was not an example to be followed. “Anyway, what about–”[break][break]

And he deluged some of the plans. At that point, she could only assume he was League. Why else would he speak so brazen about “striking back” against Rocket? She raised her head like a Patrat scouring the lands, making sure nobody was listening in on the conversation–everyone was minding their own business. “Well, that warms my cockles, but hey–” she slouched back into her seat, “gimmie a call when it happens.”[break][break]

And the third drink was slid her way, before she could even ask for it. Well, shit. Guess that decided where this night was going. Her body could hate her tomorrow.

fernando barely ends his drink by the time she's down with her third. how she - how people - manage to kill their drinks without regards for their own safety, he'll never know. without the safety of his invisible flanks, fernando cannot trust himself to his inebriation. it's too dangerous.

"have a good night, bailey."

with that, he ends the night with a farewell. a common conclusion for an idle exchange between two people. at least until fernando makes it down the street. what stops him is a brawl between two pokemon with no trainers in sight. the crackle of electricity threatens anyone that dares interfere. but he's unafraid. not when he has the element of surprise.

the sound of abomasnow's WOOD HAMMER resounds with a vibrant boom. it can be heard from outside despite the lack of destruction that comes from it. with a third player in their little fight, magneton has no choice but to succumb. that just leaves one.

fernando knows which one he wants. as long as no one else interferes, the magneton will be his.

With the magneton taken care of, there was nothing left to occupy the zebstrika. Just like Spiral, it decided to come busting through the wall and fuck with everything.[break][break]

Bailey barely had a sip of her third drink when the deranged electric horse busted through the wall, blowing bricks and hunks of drywall everywhere. “...” A hunk fell into her glass, tainting it.[break][break]

“What the fuck?” She summoned her Kommo-o. This dumb horse wanted an ass kicking.[break][break]
