With the season changing and the leaves falling off of the trees, Stormy ventures into Petalburg forest on a mission. While she prays that she doesn't find what she's looking for, because she knows damn well that it's disgusting and creepy and she'd rather curl up at home with a good book, she knows better than to turn tail and flee from a goal.[break][break]

So she tucks her coat around her a little bit tighter while staring up at the web-strewn treetops, shuddering at the thought of any bug-type Pokemon dropping from the canopy ceiling to startle her. A Ninetales walks patiently by her side, her pawsteps melting the snow and revealing green grass beneath.[break][break]

"Why is it so c-cold?"[break][break]

It's not even cold, she's just a baby.[break][break]

Now this was exhilarating! Nothing beat a good cold run with the ones he loved! In a small group of three Caius and two his boys were enjoying a jog through Petalburg woods. The best part of being Petalburg’s gym leader had to be the woods, it was beautiful, cold this time of year and his Pokemon loved it! [break][break]

Flanking Caius his Nidoking did its best to move its massive armored body at a pace similar to the blonde’s, in the tree tops Chimchar was swinging on the tree tops.

As they jogged along a figure came into path, Caius stopping in his tracks as whoever was in their way was just a few feet away. As soon as he saw their face he gasped, “Gah Damn.” he thought to himself. [break][break]

“Oh, hello. Uh, Chilling out I see?” it sounded more like a question that a statement.

Stormy hears something fast approaching from behind and she hesitates, her foot crunching in the snow as her boot sinks. She pivots, glancing over a shoulder and snuggling her scarf closer as she squints.[break][break]

The Ninetales had flared her tails in warning and slight surprise at having been sort of snuck up on. She quickly recovers, brushing a tongue over her chest and appearing indifferent and aloof. Her tails return together and sit at her side while she sits.[break][break]

However, in her surprise, her drought ability activates as if she had entered a battle-mode and the snow begins to rapidly melt.[break][break]

Caius speaks and Stormy blinks, tugging her scarf away from her face as it had suddenly increased in temperature and she was sweating.[break][break]

"Oh, hey. I was, until you startled her."[break][break]

By her, she gestures loosely to the Ninetales, who looks quite put-off that Stormy would speak such blatant lies. She hadn't been startled, only surprised. Barely.[break][break]

What does surprise her is that they aren't alone. Caius and his Pokemon aren't the only ones who had shown up in the middle of the woods.[break][break]

Should he have used a pun to break the ice? Get it? Break the ice? He wasn’t sure if that would have been a good conversation starter but there was no time to get cold feet. He thought his puns were pretty cool. It wouldn’t have been ice if she scoffed at him for it…

At the mention of the Pokemon getting startled he laughed, “Ah, sorry. Next time i’ll try to present myself a little more subtly instead of breaking the ice so quickly… Get it? Ice? No? Oh look Pokemon.” he pointed at the sawsbuck dashing through the chilled woods.

The Pokemon sprinted faster than Caius could keep up and before he knew it, it had disappeared back into the brush.

“So, what’re you doin’ out here? Huntin Pokemon?” he asked, returning those with him to their Pokeballs.

Stormy shrugs at his next comment, and then lifts an eyebrow at his pun, followed by him pointing to a wild Sawsbuck. It causes her to completely forget the cheesy line he'd just played and she watches the beast disappear into the trees.[break][break]

Caius poses a question and she glances back towards him while Eden's attention remains focused on something moving around in the bushes. [break][break]

"Yeah, sort of. Mostly just a stroll I guess."[break][break]

It's not exactly wrong, she's just too embarrassed to say she'd probably gotten lost on her way back to town and was too stubborn and proud to ask for help. She'd figure it out.[break][break]

Something in the trees next to her moves, but the woman does a double-take because it isn't a tree's leaves that are moving. In fact, it's not a tree or bush at all. Beady red eyes peer at her through the foliage and the tall and surprisingly beautiful Pokemon steps out from his shroud of shrubbery.[break][break]

She stands there, mouth agape, as the Leavanny approaches. His long legs gingerly pick their way across the yard as he approaches a pond nearby. Before she could react or intervene, the Leavanny's leaf blades plunge the surface and retrieve the squirming, writhing body of a Skrelp. It gasps its last breath as the Leavanny devours it.[break][break]

"Oh my God, what the fuck?"[break][break]

Stormy squawks, and her Ninetales sprints across the field to intercept. It's too late, of course, but the Leavanny engorged on its poisonous meal is too sleepy to fight back, and soon succumbs to Ninetales assault of fire and flame. Stormy quickly captures the carnivorous mantis and pockets it, sweat pouring from her brow as she bids her farewells and goes home to think about what she just witnessed.[break][break]
