The encroaching torrent of rainfall danced in tandem with his mud-soaked boots. It’s a cold and desolate night that grips the normally scenic forest route leading up to the main entrance of Meteor Falls. While the storm bellows it’s cry above the softcover of trees, the few raindrops that manage to slip past end up reflecting off the slickened surface of his raincoat. His lips curl into a grimace beneath his hood. The coated man trudges up the path nonetheless, though he stops just a few feet away from where the wooden signs mark the ‘beginning’ of Meteor Falls. A hand slips free from his coat pocket, reaching up and pulling back the hood.[break][break]

Toby sniffs, rubbing his wet face clean with a gloved hand. The walk up the path wasn’t as bad as he thought it would be when he first left, but it certainly wasn’t ideal. Though, a dreadfully rainy encounter at the end of a two-week-long case was on-brand for his usual run of luck.[break][break]

“... This is the place,” Looker spits with barely-contained unamusement, drifting his gaze up to the flashing night skies. A hand slips beneath his coat, freeing a candid photograph that he flips around in his hand. Imprinted in the photo was a dark-haired, bespectacled lad hastily moving through a crowd of people. [break][break]

Remiel Calcifet; works at the Devon Corporation, suspected of committing illegal mining and research work in Meteor Falls. Workplace says he’s a studious lad; his ‘neighbors’ say he’s a creepy loner who likes to go out for night walks. Rangers say he has a Galarian Meowth; rangers also say that there are Galarian Meowth claw marks left in the bodies of fainted wild Pokemon found around several illicit dig sites in the region. [break][break]

Damning evidence to anyone who isn’t Devon Corporation and the greater ranger organization. They wouldn’t turn him in unless he was caught, dead-to-rights, in the act. And that is why Tobias Looker is now getting himself soaked, hunting down the culprit of Meteor Falls’ mystery miner. [break][break]

Looker folds the photograph, slipping it in his coat and instead withdrawing a telltale round object, which rapidly expands in his palm as he taps the button on its front side. The pokeball bounces off the tree, clicking open and spilling forth a torrent of energy that materializes into the looming shape of a Pokemon; a low and menacing hiss escapes it’s fanged maw as it flexed its vast wings and barbed tail outward. [break][break]

“Carstein, take point. Standard breach,” the investigator commands with an exasperated wave of his hand. “I want to wrap this up so we can go home.” [break][break]

The towering gliscor silently moves past its trainer with a flap of its wings, tilting its head to the side and making a face at him. Anyone else wouldn’t have much of a clue what this face means. Looker, however, sneers in response to the fanged scorpion that was now grinning at him. “You can get some food when we have Calcifet in handcuffs. Come on, focus.” [break][break]

The gliscor, now appeased, chitters quietly whilst Looker dug his hands into his pocket and withdrew a pair of handcuffs, the fatigue of two weeks crushing his shoulders as he proceeds towards the Falls. The investment of time, in this case, motivated him to catch the criminal more than the deeds of the criminal himself.[break][break]

Wherever Calcifet is, he’d better make all of this worth it.
