Was Alexei going to get lucky this time around? He knew the last two times, he had encountered a Breloom and an Oricorio—what was he going to run into this time? Even as his wish list was getting shorter and shorter, he knew that he had to at least secure as many Flying-types as possible, because he did proclaim to be the Flying-themed Gym Leader—but his own collection was still pretty small.[break][break]

He had a lot of birds, but the Bug-types that flew still eluded him.[break][break]

There was… something… in the ash. While he couldn’t exactly place it, the weird, chugging sound it made… definitely threw him off-guard.[break][break]

Where was it coming from? What was causing the steam engine-like sounds to echo around the area?[break][break]

It didn’t take too long for Alexei to spot something—in the wilted grass. It looked like something out of a fireplace![break][break]

What is with all these new Pokémon lately? They’re starting to look more and more like normal household objects! He pondered as he watched the thing… slowly chug by. Eventually, it vanished into the undergrowth, leaving him alone once again.[break][break]

Now, what was he looking for again…?[break][break]

He was pretty certain it was a Fire-type. That much was a given. But with so many of them, how was he going to know if he found the one he was looking for?!

While he wasn’t expecting to encounter a Ninetales out here, there it was.[break][break]

He could only stare at it in surprise—he already had one, however double-checking on his phone showed that the place he frequented for Pokémon trading showed that there was someone else looking for one of these.[break][break]

Regardless of gender? He thought to himself, raising his eyebrows as he quickly replied to the ad before fishing out a Pokéball and throwing out his Salamence, Intimidate activating the moment the draconid emerged from his Pokéball.[break][break]

“Go take care of that one, but don’t be an idiot and fight smart,” he said, preparing a vacant Pokéball to chuck at the Ninetales once the Salamence had charged forward with a Thunder Fang. To counter, a vortex of fire came colliding with it—and the draconid was forced to change attacks, swapping its Thunder Fang for a Protect at the last second.[break][break]

The flames rebounded harmlessly off the protective shield, before the Salamence roared and used Scary Face in an attempt to catch it off-guard. Horrified by the sight, the Ninetales was frozen at the hideous moue the Salamence threw its way, before a sudden snip-snapping of electric-coated fangs bore down on the Ninetales.[break][break]

Two Thunder Fang attacks and one Dragon Claw later, the Ninetales folded under the might of the Salamence. Seeing the opening, Alexei threw the Pokéball.
