Though his Steelix was a little more gold in colour than when they'd last been here, their mission was much the same. Gavin wrinkles his nose as they venture deeper into New Mauville and his hair starts to stand on end. Attempts to flatten it down prove futile. He sighs, giving up.

Carefully sidestepping a hazard sign which Steelix bowls over as she follows him, Gavin finds a suitable location and scans the area for trainers and Pokemon alike. It's quiet. For now.

Like someone striding into their kitchen and spotting a mouse, Steelix startles at the sudden appearance of a Diglet. It's too close for comfort, apparently, and the massive metallic titan grumbles and slams her iron tail against the offender, forcing it to retreat back into the hole it had made.

"How big are you?" Gavin asks her, smirking. "Did you really just jump over a Diglet?"

She clips him gently with her tail, which still nearly knocks him off his feet, and coils in on herself to wait for new prey.

Where he had laughed at his Steelix for startling at something as insignificant as a Diglet, Corviknight is a worthy foe. Gavin's bird of shining steel is the only one that he needs, its silver feathers a mark of rarity, but he knows the Galarian avian to be in high-demand for the black market.

And, because he owns one, he knows their weakness.

"Steelix, bring it down. Thunder Fang."

She roars, opening her maw: blunt teeth crack with lightning as she lunges for the bird, snatching it from the air mid-dive. It's attempts to fight back are limited by the surge of electricity through its vulnerable form: the sheer force of the Steelix proving to be too much.

As the bird goes limp, Steelix drops it dutifully at Gavin's feet like a cat gifting its prey.

"Well done," he laughs, shaking his head as he throws the pokeball. "Time to head home."
