she listens: he's not used to this. "yes." once so familiar with each other, they now feel like strangers stood on opposite ends of a spectrum; a spectrum tipped in his favor. her voice disarms him but only for a moment; his defenses weaken, but he won't let her through.

"rocket's in hoenn. we have been for a while now." she's smart. and bright. he knows she knows. her demeanor hasn't changed since they last saw each other, and that worries him.

fingers trace the dust-covered railings he stands next to, hoping to find the right words to say. "what happened in kanto—we'll do the same here. nothing's stopping that." a pause. "nothing's stopping me." a beat.

"not even you."

finally, his gaze falls on her. "you should step away before it's too late."

the police; or the league, as they refer to themselves, won't know what's coming. their concern is cast on the wrong target.

from the murky depths of the once-dormant water next to the harbor, a dragalge spews forth and shoots a powerful stream of HYDRO PUMP directly at the espeon. before the FUTURE SIGHT can take its effect, luxray is already quick on the prowl.

the static in the air dances across the dark mane of the electric-type. he lets it engulf him; a strong current flows through him as his feet drags against the ground. in an instant, he zaps forward. his WILD CHARGE is unrivaled as he attempts to ram his entirety into the espeon, who hopefully, should be drenched in water.

up above, thunder cracks. the cloudless skies are no more as dark puffs start to close in; looming, foreshadowing. the overseer underestimates; or, perhaps, he estimates to his understanding; unfortunately, his estimation is incorrect.

the scene darkens.

violence is a necessity.

moonlight beautifully graces the scene of slateport's shipyard, setting the scene for what's to come. it's late into the night, resulting in a severe lack of people in the vicinity. there's something in the air tonight; something haunting, and electrifying. only a single person knows what will happen tonight; the rest are lucky enough to be mere witnesses to something spectacular.

toppling an empire sounds like an immeasurable task, but he's done it before. once a peaceful region, kanto stands fallen as a symbol for what rocket is capable of; what silas is capable of. all it takes is a whistle.

but tonight is not the night. the whistle is yet to be garnered for this isn't the main attraction. this is simply a little treat; for whom, only time will tell.

before malcolm is a sole, isolated luxray that blocks his path. the male electric-type stands still, rooted in his spot as his glare looks to INTIMIDATE. the electricity in the air isn't metaphorical; an ELECTRIC TERRAIN engulfs the near vicinity, leaving the overseer stranded.

then, comes the shift. it's subtle but he knows, he feels it emanating from his rocket underboss. it's pleasure to watch her work; she's sadistic, and yet, she masks it under a carefully placed veil. her true intentions are a mystery, and that's what makes her so captivating. at the same time, it makes her dangerous.[break][break]

if they weren't alone before they definitely are now. her noivern swoops in and picks the man up by his shoulders, pulling him up into the air. the man screams and shouts, helplessly flailing his arms and legs to no avail.[break][break]

"we have to be courteous; we are guests to the region, after all." he steps forward until he's directly underneath the noivern. his eyes peer up and somehow, the glaring sun doesn't affect him. "the hospital is fine."

the lighthouse is more than a memory; it stands as a symbol for what he once was. for what he could have been.

she knocks on the wall he's spent years building to protect himself. each knock cracks, and for once, he's scared she'll break through. the first crack comes from her smile. he doesn't respond. the second comes from her gesture to the empty space. he doesn't respond.

the third: her words.

he can't respond.

"stop." there's an imbalance that hangs in the air. like a tree in a violent storm, she's unwilling to yield. she stands her ground. he's not used to that. "that's not why i'm here—i don't need to hear that."

for a moment he wishes things were different. maybe in a different life. but not this one.

"there's a storm coming."

there's no hesitation in her words, but that's what he expected from her; anything else wouldn't compliment her. trust is a luxury, and it's one he knows he will never fully be able to give. there's no one in the world he trusts; no one who deserves his trust. so he keeps them at an arm's-length because that's where they belong. that's where he's most safe.[break][break]

"okay."[break][break]

tension dissipates for the moment as the subject switches onto hoenn. "it is." it's more home than kanto ever was and ever will be. it's also all he's willing to say on the matter. thankfully, she asks another question.[break][break]

he ponders for a moment. "to conquer it." it's a simple, but truthful answer. "it's been at peace for far too long; it doesn't deserve that luxury. i'll do to it what i did to kanto."[break][break]

the crowd that seemed so present from earlier fades away with the tension, and what's left is the two of them and another: an oncoming civilian. silas doesn't move. their shoulders clash and profanities spew. they take another step forward but he knows to use it as an opportunity. he turns to mint.[break][break]

"are you going to let him walk away?"

overthrowing his father was a decision many saw coming, but maybe it was the remnants of family that clouded his father's judgement. the act was easier than the decision. but still, leia played a big part in keeping him safe, and he knew that.[break][break]

her step forward ushers him to follow, which he obliges. "betrayal is second nature to our kind. my father didn't think i'd betray him, too." his voice is void of any sympathy. it needed to be done. "i can't have any doubts, not when we're this close to hoenn."[break][break]

human nature is fragile. it doesn't take much to break even the strongest wills. all it takes is a little push. a little memory. for silas, it's of a time he wishes he could change not because he despises it, but because he longs for it.

it's what's keeping from fully accepting his fate; for he is still human.

however, it is important to note that fragility is often accompanied by volatility.

he doesn't smile because he's afraid of what it'll reap. some things are better left untouched, and yet, he's poking at it with a stick, taunting it. "you came alone." it's an observation, but he knows there are more.

the wooden floorboards creak underneath his footsteps. there's nothing in the lighthouse, but its significance is not in its structure or design. they are illuminated by the rays that shine through dust-stained windows. despite its lack of interior decoration, it still feels much like home.

"congratulations on the promotion." he keeps his distance. there's an unfamiliar feeling brewing inside him and he's concerned it'll surface once pushed. "do you remember when we came here?"

physical affection makes him uncomfortable, but he hides it well under his visage. discomfort morphs into irritation as she rubs her head against his chest. "get off, mint." one more tug and he slips free. [break][break]

his jaw clenches but he knows he can't do anything. not here. "stop it." judgement restrains his voice. "that's not what i meant." [break][break]

she's trouble, and yet, he allows her to be. his eyes undress her, noticing any subtleties that may be present in her features. "why are you here, mint? in hoenn. with me." loyalty flickers and fades, so he needs to be sure. [break][break]

one glance around allows them a moment to themselves. "no bullshit."

loyalty and trust are two things vital in any organization, and especially in an organization such as rocket, where betrayal runs rampant; or at least it used to. fear silences betrayal. it silences those who dare oppose him, who dare doubt him.[break][break]

fear is what drives rocket forward.[break][break]

still, fear has limitations. fear cannot be instilled into someone who's not afraid; someone who has nothing left to lose. silas is both of those.[break][break]

"why are you here?" his voice manages to boom despite the crowd that surrounds them. he addresses one of his underboss, a familiar face, leia. like fish in an unforgiving tide they navigate their way through, breaking free at the end.[break][break]

fish turn to stone, they both stop before a turn.[break][break]

"be cautious with your answer, mint."
