As the man dropped, Thomas began hissing through his teeth, looking around the battlefield. A Ranger would attempt to calm Thomas down, only to nearly struck by the baton, before Thomas stopped himself.

"Hey, hey, easy now! I'm on your side!", the Ranger called out.

"Right. Right.", Thomas blurted out, slowly lowering the baton, as he realized that the battle was over.

The Ranger looked down at the former Elite Four's handiwork. "Was that really necessary? You could've killed the guy!", the Ranger berated Thomas.

Thomas looked over to the Heatmor, and his partner. "Tell that to our fallen friends.", Thomas retorted, as he began to grab the dogtags off of the dead bodies.

"What do we do about the Rockets?", the Ranger asked.

Thomas looked around, taking note of the injured personnel. There were far too many to both get them back to camp, and to arrest the Rockets. A choice had to be made.

"Leave the Rockets. Let's get our injured teammates back to base.", Thomas told the Ranger, with a heavy sigh.

He hated the idea of letting the Rockets go, only for them to cause more harm. But he couldn't abandon the injured men and women, when the Interdream Mist could creep up at any moment, and manifest something dangerous. Even the idea of leaving the bodies behind troubled Thomas, but the best he could do was collect their dog tags, and hopefully retrieve the bodies later.

The able bodied Rangers began to quickly field dress the injuries inflicted on their teammates, before escorting them out of the cave. Thomas, and his Pokemon, would do what they could to help them, while making sure none of the Rockets woke up, and tried to attack them while they were moving out.

The fluffy Audino let out a happy little cry as the dinosaur nuzzled him, He would hug the head of the ancient Pokemon, before she turned her affections to Thomas, who petted her.

"To tell you the truth, it's a long story.", he began.

Thomas remembered what Katrina was like, when they met all those years ago. A girl trying to live up to her father's expectations. In a way, he saw himself in her. As a kid, he too tried to live up to his father's image. It was only when Thomas went his own way that he even came close to making his dad proud. The irony was never missed on him.

Upon spotting Mic, Thomas smiled at the little Dedenne. "Hey, Mic. Good to see you, little buddy~", Thomas cooed at the adorable rodent, offering to hold him in his palm, and pet him.

The fluffy Audino wandered up, hoping for a turn to snuggle the tiny, chubby gerbil.

"Did you want to catch up over coffee? There's a good cafe that also does great milkshakes, if you're more in the mood for that.", he'd offer her.

Though he was ready to accept the shy fox's rejection, the Zorua's trainer's encouragement gave him the chance to hold the fluffy-looking creature. It would be clear that the Audino was delighted by this. The Audino took the time to pet the Hisuian Zorua in his arms, as he escorted Sierra to his master. When the Zorua hopped out of his arms, the Audino gladly took his master's hug, letting out a sweet little cry as he hugged him back.

Thomas could see it in her eyes, despite her hesitation. After offering the Zorua a pet, he'd turn his attention back to his younger cousin. The man would answer her question, opening his arms to embrace her. The smile on his scarred face, the look in his eyes, would tell her that he was happy to see her.

"I'm glad to see you too, Sierra.", he'd tell the journalist.

"Truthfully, it's a mixed bag. But that's life.", he'd tell her. "How have you been?", Thomas asked her.

A Zoroark took notice to the Hisuian Zorua, and went over to investigate. Upon arriving, the head of a Zorua popped out from her long mane, before hopping out to greet his Hisuian counterpart.

From his newfound perch above, Thomas took count of the thug's three friends, making four in total. Assuming they didn't have backup waiting elsewhere.

Thomas brought out his Clawitzer, Colt. "It's your lucky day, Colt. You get to snipe these fuckers. Just wait for the signal.", Thomas told the Clawitzer, who was equipped with a special monocle-like lens. The crustacean nodded eagerly, as Thomas deftly slid down a pipe to the ground.

As the good samaritan spots him, the Ceruledge quickly disappears into the Phantom Force, before the four thugs catch up to her. By the time the Banette trips her, Thomas is already behind cover, pressing a button on a device.

The Clawitzer, acting on the signal, fires a Dark Pulse at the Banette. Thanks to the power of his Mega Launcher, the Dark Pulse manages to overwhelm the haunted doll, before it could unleash the Shadow Ball intended for Alia.

In the moment of chaos caused by the sniper fire, Thomas, with a baton drawn, rushes one of the thugs from behind, striking at his perroneal nerve, bringing him down to his knees, before smashing the back of his head in with the baton, knocking him out.

The Houndoom, spotting the man in the hat, attempts to burn him with a Flamethrower. The Ceruledge from before manifests from the Phantom Force, in between the two. Flash Fire allows him to absorb the jet of noxious flames harmlessly, the flame plumage on his helmet intensifying.

Today, Thomas wasn't taking any chances. Armed with a handgun, equipped with a suppressor, Thomas followed closely behind Kazimir. As the man pried open the door, Thomas had his sights trained down the other side. Thankfully, the other was confirmed clear. Thomas looked over his partner's shoulder, at the birds eye view he had gotten of the camp.

"As much as I'd love to go in with a bang, bastards might have hostages.", Thomas pointed out. "Let's take the quiet approach, try to free any hostages, then we can go ham.", the Kalosian suggested. "I brought my Lucario, Zoroark, and Decidueye. They can help us scout out enemy positions. From there, we can either avoid, or take them out covertly.", Thomas added.

Though whether the vigilante would take his advice was a different matter, entirely.

Despite the protection afforded by Iron Valiant, the strange Ursaluna is still struck by a sneaky Glimmora. To make matters worse, one of them manages to get Vanilla. Thankfully, the Gigaton Ball contained the Ursaluna, sheltering it from further attacks.

"Vanilla!", Thomas calls out, rushing to the side of his apprentice.

Thankfully, Desiree's Hatterene is there to help alleviate the damage done. "I'll get us out of here, I promise.", he told Vanilla, before leaving her to the witch.

Thomas takes in the new surroundings. Herba Mystica growing out of the ground, a Spaceship in the distance. But most strikingly was the Megalopolan corpse slumped over the bowl. Thomas walked over to the corpse, taking note of the magenta chain wrapped around his neck. It bore a striking resemblance to the tendrils the Nihilego from earlier had, and the markings the Glimmora bore.

Thomas studied the large metal bowl. For some reason, it reminded him of the bowl on the head of the Ruinous Beast. The very same beast that clashed with Zaican, and trapped them in that illusory world, for what felt like twenty years.

But was it?

Thomas looked over, watching as their Rocket pursuers increased in numbers. Yuina's suggestion to take a detour was quickly noted, as Thomas turned the vehicle down a different, more scenic path.

Following the lead of the Infernape, Cobalt hopped off of the truck. Using his Extreme Speed to meet the vehicles head on, the Lucario would smash into the engine blocks of the vehicles with singular, violent strikes of his Meteor Mash.

Upon crumpling their engines, the Lucario would move onto the next vehicle, just as the Infernape was.

Meanwhile, the Electrode had a plan. Upon seeing that the Rocket forces were beginning to bottleneck on the path, the living bomb rolled off of the truck. Once they were far enough away, and the Rockets were close enough, the Electrode would glow, before going out in one last Explosion.

Once Thomas was in position, the Kalosian brought out two Pokemon. A Clawitzer, who would maintain its position. The other, a Decidueye, would glide towards a different location.

Thomas would watch in horror as the Great Tusk reared itself to stamp on the stragglers. Thankfully, gunfire from the soldier that had just arrived saved the lives of the men. Following up on this, the Clawitzer, now having charged up his pincer, fired a Water Pulse at the head of the Great Tusk.

"I'll help you distract it!", Thomas called out to Cassidy. He would then turn on his radio. "Pyroar Six, this is Arbok Nine! Backup has arrived! Evacuate the others! We'll provide a distraction.", Thomas called out into his radio.

"Understood! Pyroar Six out!", the soldier on the other side replied.

Upon finding an ideal position, the Decidueye took aim at the Great Tusk. Firing a shot at the shadow of the beast, the Decidueye attempted to trap the ancient Paradox Pokemon with a Spirit Shackle.

The Totodile, emboldened by the presence of backup, jumped down into a pile of freshly made mud, attempting to get it into the eyes of the Great Tusk, in order to impair its vision.

Thomas wasted no time in making his way back down to the battlefield, Pokeballs at the ready.

Much to the frustration of the Seaking, the Starmie managed to recover off most of the damage done. Rather than trying to jab the starfish again, the horned fish would instead unleash a Supersonic shriek at the Starmie, hoping to induce confusion.

Thomas, noticing the Unown, tapped the Sharpedo. Building up his Agility, Finn managed to narrowly avoid the Hidden Power careening towards them. Because they had to veer off course to avoid the attack, and thanks to the Tailwind summoned by the mechanical beast brought out by the masked woman, the boat was starting to get away.

From below, the Clawitzer would take aim at the Unown. Aided by the power of his Mega Launcher, the crustacean would attempt to snipe the Unown with a Water Pulse.

The fact that it wasn't FERNANDO SILPH disturbed Thomas to no end. If Fernando wasn't with Tapu Fini, then who was? And was this individual connected to him, in any way?

"Right, let's just get the fuck outta here.", Thomas told Kyle.

Kyle's timing couldn't have been worse. Interdream Mist began to seep from the floors below them, surrounding the two residents of Verdanturf Town.

"Fuck.", Thomas blurted out. As the Interdream Mist began to form, figures manifesting from its depths, Thomas brought out his Scizor, his Iron Valiant, and an Eelektross.

"Of course.", Thomas replied to the man dryly. "If it's anything like the warnings about 99943 Meteno, then yeah.", Thomas remarked.

Thomas watched as the burst of water rocketed past them. Before Kuma Lisa could touch it, the water revealed the presence of the electrified spider web.

"Looks like we're about to walk into an Ambush. Most likely a Galvantula. Given the terrain, I wouldn't be surprised if they were using one capable of Camouflage.", Thomas remarked.

Thomas sent out his Decidueye, Clint. "Clint, shadow us.", Thomas told the Decidueye, who'd give a nod, before disappearing into the Phantom Force.

Kuma Lisa would burn down the wall of web with a Flamethrower.

Thomas was initially caught off guard by the side jabs. Despite this, the man was able to keep up with the Ultramodernist's strikes, thanks to his training. Intent on dazing her, Thomas attempted to headbutt her. If successful, he would then follow this up by attempting to forcefully shove her back, while backing away himself, attempting to regain some distance.

Much to the frustration of the Beheeyem, the Scolipede dodged the attack again. And thanks to the momentum afforded to it by the combination of Speed Boost and Rollout, he was in a bad spot. Despite this, he had a plan.

The Nidorino found himself surprised by the fact that he took out the Glimmora. He was given no time to celebrate, as Elvis the Beheeyem Telepathically told him to look to him, and wait for his signal.

When prompted, the Nidorino erected an Earth Power ramp in front of the Beheeyem, in order to catch the Scolipede, and prevent it from striking the extraterrestreal Pokemon.

The Beheeyem began to put himself in a Calm state of Mind, in order to fortify himself for what was to come.

Meanwhile, the 'corpse' of the Primeape became surrounded with ethereal energy. It was as if a Dark evolution began to take place. With a final flash of spectral energy, the 'dead' Primeape rose to his feet, his body darkened.

Ralph, through his overwhelming rage, had evolved into an Annihilape.

The Emolga, upon spotting the Techno Blast hurdling towards his master, dashed as quickly as he could. With a Quick Attack, the gliding rodent managed to get in front of them in time, taking the Techno Blast for his master. Unfortunately, the power of the attack overwhelmed the little guy, causing him to come falling into the waters below. If the attack didn't kill him, then drowning surely would.

Clenching his fist, Thomas glowered at the man on the Genesect. The primordial Salamence rushed the metallic bug. The Roaring Moon reared his tail, before taking a Breaking Swipe at the automaton.

"Right, I don't know how I survived listening to that vain blowhard Cole every time we had a meeting.", Thomas commented, a light chuckle escaping him. "I don't know if you should be thanking him, or if you should punch him in the dick for that.", Thomas remarked, again in a playful manner. "But seriously, congrats on the promotion.", he'd tell the sheriff with sincerity.

"Sounds good to me, man. If we win, drinks are on me.", he'd promise the Gym Leader.

The Clawitzer would emerge from the depths. The crustacean with the oversized pincer began to urgently cry out to Thomas, as if warning him that danger was on the way.

"Looks like shit's about to get exciting.", Thomas remarked, a grin manifesting.
