The noise that reached his ears afterward was definitely… geez. Again?

“When I came down here with Thomas Benoit and we brought back that ‘Walking Wake’, or whatever it’s called, we kept hearing two versions of that noise. One sounded like an old-school… something, while the other was decidedly more—yeah. Like that,” he gestured in the general direction where the noise had come from.

And even though the other couldn’t see it, there was this extremely ironic grin on his face.

“…only my partner knows he’s my ex, but not the fact that Tempest Quinn is with Team Rocket. Did get kinda jealous when I told him about that connection we had, though.”

The sound of… discordant, electric—almost motor-like… ‘noise’ would reach the Braviary’s ears; before he turned around and gave one very loud squawking noise.

He… to be fair he wasn’t okay, because he was just as worried about leaving his idiot human behind with no Pokémon! Either way… he would shake his head, before spreading his wings wide and then turning around to examine the area where they were at.

No… it definitely wasn’t here.

So instead, he would shoot off towards the supposed direction where the strange ‘mating noise’ had come from.

Meanwhile over at where Alex was waiting up in a tree…

“Really? Again? Now it’s the other one?” he mused; taking a mental note to tell Thomas Benoit about the other noise this time—the last time it was the antiquated-sounding one; this one sounded more… futuristic?

If that even made sense?

The one thing he was sure of was that Team Rocket would not stop at anything to get what they wanted. See: the Kanto region.

“I don’t doubt your words that there are people still trapped inside Rocket’s underbelly… I just hope that something can be done for them before they reach the point of no return.”

He felt his throat run dry. There was another question bothering him in the back of his mind, however he decided to come out and ask it anyway:

“Have you… like, you know, killed someone?” he asked in hushed tones, so low the other would have to lean in close just to hear it. He didn’t want to set off any alarms—they were still in public, after all.

“Or was it not part of what they asked you to do?”

He wondered—what if they’d met earlier, before the other had joined Team Rocket, would things have been… different?

“If and when you do add a non-traditional option, let me know,” he mused as he looked over at the work that was being done in the immediate area.

“I can test run it for you. I mean, you know me. I have like. Three versions of a non-traditional gym challenge, each one of them unique.”

(Of course, he’d have to revamp one of them down the road, all things considered, as they were becoming too similar now that he looked at it!)

He hummed quietly—oh? Lilycove’s Birddad™ also had a partner?

“Ooh?” he crowed, ears perking. “Have I met or at the very least come by my Gym for a challenge before like you did?”

He tried to remember the scores of challengers, wondering if there was any that stood out asides from the greenette in front of him. Should they have taken the non-traditional challenge, then that alone would make them stick out easily in his memory.

“Honestly, I’m telling you… some of these Pokémon will do whatever they want when left unsupervised…” he trailed off as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

Either way, the Heatran then rolled over, sinking the heated coals on their back deeper into the ground…

“Speaking of which, I was trying to get a hot spring made out here, but see, the problem is—where can I put the Heatran? Think you can help me out here?” he would offer to her before looking over at the Smeargle who had… huh?

“Wait. Oh, no. I think the Smeargle copied the Heatran’s move,” he mused a few moments later.

“I’ve seen videos of Smeargle copying moves left and right on the Pokénet. The shit they can get gets to be pretty… wild.”

As demonstrated by the Heatran who was now lounging in the ‘pit’, stubby legs wiggling in the air like some kind of demented, silly little child.

And then, just like with the last trip he took with Thomas Benoit, the same… well, the other version of the mating call sounded out.

The Braviary let out a squawk, before pointing in a… well, a very random direction; as he was trying to guess where the noise had come from. Wherever it was, it definitely didn’t bode too well—especially when it came to his idiot human being stuck all out there, alone, with minimal battery left on his phone!

The avian would squawk, turning to his current companion for guidance—where would she be taking them? The fear and panic had already set in, which was why the bluie-plumed avian was acting skittish to all hell.

Meanwhile, over at the tree…

He sighed. Were they in the middle of a mating dance again? Hopefully whatever was making that noise wasn’t like that blue beast that his Braviary had Sky Drop’d from a great height…!

The bad thing about this was, had she missed the ‘battery running low’ mention in the message, she wouldn’t have an idea of how… grave the situation he was in.

Moment the Braviary finally arrived, though, he would squawk her way, before coming down for a landing on the ground; a sign that she would have to hoist the injured explorer off his back first.

Once the explorer had been led towards safety, it was now… it would now be up to her to take the lead; now that the Braviary was there, waiting for her to make her move.

Meanwhile, back out where Alex was…

“Come on, come on, where are you…” he continued; having climbed up a tree—the better to get off the ground and have a much further field of view just in case shit broke out down on the ground and he got caught in the middle…

Absolutely defenseless. Terrible, really.

In no time flat, the second half of the Sky Drop attack would come to fruition; as the blue-plumed Braviary came within range and immediate line of sight once more before crashing down with his unceremonious load—the Walking Wake that would leave quite the impact crater.

“…and that’s why you don’t make him angry,” he ended with a hint of a smirk on his face as the avian then literally cawed; before hopping over to where they were waiting.

“Let’s go get the pictures we need now before it wakes up and decides to attack us again,” he nodded in his friend’s direction.

Thankfully the Tornadus didn’t hold grudges ~~unlike his human companion who did~~ and continued to chase after the not-quite-a-Thundurus, however it was undeniable…

Just some swapping around and the blue one with the funny tail, if sitting in a cloud form, would be the spitting image of the purple-and-green one, albeit with a lesser number of horns.

The immediate problem now was the electrical fire that was raging all around them—yikes. Normal water wasn’t going to cut this; hopefully the blue one would leave ~~and he would give chase~~ so they could put out the fire!

“You go! I’ll—stay,” he breathed out; seeing as his cloudman had other ideas on how to quell the flames.

“I can’t just leave the fire here!”

Seeing that the danged thing had already fallen over on its back and wasn’t able to get up, the Corvisquire immediately flew out of range; back towards the Braviary who decided to suddenly surge forward—

“Hey!” he yelped as the Braviary dropped him close to the ground; before the blue-plumed avian finally could get up-close and personal with an Aerial Ace attack first; while alternating shots with the Hydreigon and the other Pokémon, before—

And this is where the non-existence of physics comes into play—

The Braviary then picked up the Walking Wake with a Sky Drop attack and immediately flew as fast and as far as he could in a straight line towards the heavens!

“Oh boy,” was all he would say next, down on the ground as he followed the speck with his phone’s camera—

“Wait for it.”

His Corvisquire squawked in victory; before this time taking off at breakneck speed and flying straight down; aiming for the Walking Wake’s eyes and attempting to poke the ever-living daylights out of it with a surprise Fury Attack that would catch the strange Gardevoir-like Pokémon’s attention to mind those feathers!

The Braviary would them swoop down, even lower and as close to the fight as possible (with him still on board, taking video) before blowing a Tailwind on their side of the ‘arena’; increasing all of their companions’ speed and reaction time!

“There we go!” he cheered after which the Braviary dropped another avalanche of Rock Slide boulders; hoping to strike a direct hit on the Walking Wake’s head!

Damn, this was one extra-strong Pokémon…

The moment his companion brought up the fact that even he had to keep Uxie’s existence a secret because of Rocket infiltration, he sighed.

See, this was exactly why he had to also keep quiet about his own unique companion!

“Remember what I said about Tempest Quinn during the meeting? There was also another reason I felt it was necessary to nudge the conversation in the direction of Rocket infiltration.”

He sighed—but before he could get to the next part of his sordid tale, the ground rumbled.

“Earthquake!” he heard Claire yell over his earpiece; and even where they were the ground shook like there was something trudging through the area!

“Whoa! Are you okay?!” he exclaimed as he tried to either catch or help keep Hideo standing while the immediate area continued to rumble and quake for a few moments afterward.

Once everything had calmed down, he then turned off the ‘mic’ on his earpiece so he could continue the next part of what he was saying.

“…not only was he the short-time Gym Leader down at Pacifidlog and part of Rocket, but… he’s also my ex.”

He shuddered afterward. At least there was no more aftershocks to rattle them around… for the moment.

The funny thing about all this was that he was airborne; and the Braviary continued to rain down Rock Slide as covering fire; allowing the Hydreigon to slip through the cracks so to speak and to keep the pressure on the Walking Wake (not that he knew what it was called) but then again—

“Tom, watch out, you’re about to walk straight into—” he trailed off from his aerial vantage point; as there was a large, steaming pile of Pokémon doodoo not too far away from where the other had dismounted.

The Corvisquire, on the other hand, would continue squawking from her perch while continuing to Swagger in the Walking Wake’s direction because it didn’t look like the previous attempt actually landed (oops)!

The moment Tom took the lead, his Braviary then provided covering fire with a surprise Rock Slide or two—making sure to avoid the Hydreigon and the Galvantula.

The Corviknight was good for one thing—she would then Swagger herself in the line of sight of the blue beast; hoping to catch it in a state of confusion!

“Tom, go!” he called as he adjusted his hold on the phone in his hands; making sure to catch the battle as it unfolded—he would then risk flying lower so that he would have a better view while the video was recording.

To his friend, these were the only words he would say:

He knew, of course, that while attacking while it was distracted, they would be able to get closer—in his case, get as close as possible to get as much information as was permissible, all things considered, before the brawl erupted.

“We have the element of advantage, after all—” and here he would defer to Tom going first; as he would be supporting from the back row.
