rhian realizes

it's cold —that's what she's counting on, after all— but she doesn't quite realize how cold until she spots the cubchoo. from the distance, she can't tell if it's dozing off or simply standing really, really quietly. what she can distinguish though are the little snowflakes forming around it, like a thin blanket of ice.

subconsciously, she rubs her arms at the sight. her nightgown, despite covering her past her knees, doesn't prove to be effective protection from the wind. then again, that was exactly what she wanted, wasn't it? for the cold to take away all her unwanted feelings, if only for a moment. to help her forget.

"aren't you cold down there?" she asks, but it's already too late. as if sensing some threat nearby, it runs away without giving rhian a second glance.

this sounds like so much fun! i can definitely see rhian following des on her stalker-ish antics. would she do it out of good will or out of innocent faith? probably a little of both, honestly.

do you have any preferences as to what kind of thread to start with? after giving the missions list a quick look, i think these two missions look promising: pesky pescetarian and/or you're not the one.

the first could be the perfect opportunity for des to teach rhian how to properly sneak on a pokémon that thinks it is the sneaky one. maybe the way they meet is they're each trying to find the culprit behind the local magikarp's disappearances, and when they stumble across each other rhian is so scared by des's expression that she genuinely thinks she's the culprit for the whole of ten seconds. (oh yeah did i mention rhian's a total scaredy cat?)

the second mission sounds like the most likely to cause a mess, but it also sounds like it could trigger des, so maybe we leave that one in the air until we see how they play in the first "test", for lack of a better name?

you know, i like the idea of them starting on bad terms and learn to get along purely out of consideration for cait. it'd be a pretty interesting dynamic.

does stormy usually introduce herself as a silph? rhian was born in johto and would know at least of the silph name— hell, her first piece of tech would probably have been made by silph co. not to mention virtually every other item of importance in pokémon training.

from what i can gather, stormy isn't as big of a public personality as her brother, but i can see rhian asking. if we really want things to start awfully, she could even throw an offhand comment like "it must be nice to have him as brother," knowing about him but obviously not knowing the circumstances in which the silph kids were raised.

eventually, and i'm guessing after some outside intervention winkwink but not necessarily, things could end with a heart-to-heart talk where rhian apologizes. maybe she opens up to stormy about her own family troubles (her mom and the accident, her dad and the child neglect, her cousin and the bullying) and idk they could bond over dysfunctional families?? what do you think?

are in full bloom on each side of the lake, but the center stage is easily taken from them by the glowing display emerging from the depths of the lake. rhian stares in awe, her feet mere meters away from the coast and shortening the distance with each breath. she only regains the rest of her senses with the clinking sound of steel against steel.

the klefki looks on with curiosity. it takes rhian only a moment to realize it's the milotic's scales that have caught its attention. "i don't think it'd be very gallant to take one for yourself," she laughs softly. rhian can understand her pokémon's desire to reach out and caress them, however. it's all she thinks of as she out a ball and tosses it.

so persephone is one of the league's head scientists and rhian just joined the research department. sounds to me like they're already set up for a mentor/mentee type of relationship, which i'd honestly love to explore! i'd suggest starting with a mission and see how things go from there. personally, i think it'd be nice for rhian to be perse's last option, like maybe rhian just happens to be the only one in the facility when they get word of a new mission or something. keeps rhian on her toes and permanently thinking 'o shit i can't mess up.'

rhian used to have a bit of a damsel-in-distress complex that she's been slowly shedding lately but would probably come up in unexpected situations. paired with perse's own martyr complex, things could turn into a huge mess. maybe we don't start with a mission after all, and their first meeting is instead rhian being dangerously close to a cliff because she's trying to make out something in the distance, and perse jumping in to save her from falling to her doom. or, like, being dangerously close to a big wild bouffalant. there's a lot of possibilities that could be explored here. after one (or more) of these meetings, perse could finally recognize her at work as that one girl she saved the other day, making their work relationship a bit (fun!) awkward.

her first night

in rustboro, in what would be her new home for an indefinite period of time (not forever, couldn't be forever; she could barely focus on the present), is restless. a bed too hard, a ceiling too dark, a room too small. under her pink covers, rhian turns. and turns. and again she turns. it's impossible, she finally decides, sliding out of the bed.

if there is one thing this room has that hers didn't—doesn't, it's a balcony. it is exactly to the balcony that her feet take her. here, she can't hear the music from the fairies' midnight party that she's accustomed to falling asleep to. she hasn't heard their melodious call for days now, in fact, and she can't help but miss it. this city's music is far less magical.

⭐ friends.

rhian has few friends, but not entirely out of choice. she's very introverted. with her mind usually stuck in daydreams, she's not the most talkative person around. she was sheltered for a good part of her life, and is still ignorant of certain things that would otherwise be pretty common knowledge, to the point she can be hilariously tactless or frustratingly naïve. she really means well, though, and with those she learns to trust, she can shed her worries and reservations and even turn a little overbearing.

⭐ coworkers.

within the league, she's only an assistant in the research department. rhian is probably not known by many, but she definitely would be able to recognize her higher-ups (and admire them from afar, in a totally not creepy way). work is also the easiest way to interact with and get to know her, as she's very passionate about her career. she's particularly interested in devon's dream projector and the pokénav's affection tracking feature, and would like to be able to work with them in the future.
