his phone beeped with a notification—the shadowfication process for the infernape subject had failed.[break][break]

desmond only gave a small hint of disapproval as he responded to the message, clicking out a discreet message to express that the body should be disposed. it was a shame, but no guilt was evident on the man's features as his eyes roamed to cadis and his long-brimmed hat.[break][break]

a hat that had no need to cast a shadow, as cadis' assistant was more than eager to block the sun. the other, with the briefcase, seemed eager to await any command—as he should be. “mhm, they just keep dropping, don't they?” like swatted cutieflies that strayed too close.[break][break]

like an infernape who's flame had been snuffed.[break][break]

“to more good fortunes—and maybe a few more nightmares that will unfold in our favor,” and he gave a raise of his drink before taking a swig, not waiting to make a toast official.[break][break]

His shoulder hurt too much for such pleasantries.[break][break]

“take a seat, let me hear your woes. after all, what greater purpose do I have than to advise?” these were twisted words from a twisted man that had helped put two rocket bosses into the ground.[break][break]

but he felt that the third time was the charm.

Age slowed his recovery.[break][break]

Unwinding in his beach chair, Desmond Kelley tried to ignore his discomfort. Beneath the floral patterns of his Hawaiian shirt, he can feel the staples that had been latched to his skin. It kept the wound closed, but he can still feel their hard ridges and the dull ache that came with every breath.[break][break]

The events of the New Years Festival were plastered to the newspaper in his lap—the blurry image of the Nihilego circled with red pen.[break][break]

He only moved when he reached for his drink, trying to ignore the splitting pain that came from extending his arm. An empty beach chair was situated next to him.[break][break]

The pina colada was ice cold. He hoped the booze would work to cut his edge as he waited for company to arrive.

You can't kill a bad thing.[break][break]

Maybe that was how Desmond was able to muster the energy to seek the nearest tree, sending out one of his pokemon to assist him in the process of climbing—a feat that would not have have been possible in his current state. Blood still oozed out from the split, even with the pressure that he tried to apply with his pinched fingers.[break][break]

Up atop a tree branch, he lazily withdrew the pokemon that had assisted him... and figured that Caligulla, his Hydregion, could be able to handle itself when it came to flying out of range of attacks—a process that would be assisted by the use of tailwind.[break][break]

If not, then Desmond would have to train another Hydregion to take its place.[break][break]

He had ordered the Alakazam to continue using Telekinesis—he never double-checked to see if his command was followed.[break][break]

Desmond would curse that oversight. When he turned to his psychic pokemon, he was only able to stumble back and throw out the first pokeball his hand could grasp—unlike the others, he was too close to perform any evasive maneuvers to avoid the oncoming Psycho Cut.[break][break]

So his Bisharp would take the blow for him—psychic energy harmlessly colliding against its steel exterior. It was a shield that seemed effective, until Desmond remembered that the incoming attack was larger than the dark-type. Residual energy cascaded over its form, and the man would flinch as he felt the spill of the attack slice clean through his shoulder.[break][break]

Blood, blackish red from where it was cut, oozed to a degree that he registered to be dangerous; an artery.[break][break]

It had cut clean through the collarbone. Had it been an inch lower, it could have render his arm from his torso.[break][break]

There was no break to be felt. As his hand sought the wound, screwing pressure with his coat wrapped around his fist, there was a moment where his finger graced against the clean ridge of bone that had been perfectly split. Shock made the invasiveness of his fingers feel like ice to the body—cold and burning, but unable to register how much pain that had been wrought.[break][break]

He tried to find where the blood oozed, and tried to pinch it.[break][break]

As this unfolded, he had to divide his attention away from his berserked pokemon, hoping that the ROAR would have its intended effect as he tried to maneuver his injured side—his hand weakly plucking off another pokeball, dropping it, and watching it roll before its contents spilled out.[break][break]

Hydreigon. “Caligula,” the neurotic pokemon would gnash all three jaws, “Tri Attack.”[break][break]

The tri-color beam would slice through the undergrowth, aimed for the translucent jellyfish.[break][break]

tldr: gets fucked by psycho cut. deploys hydreigon and has it use tri attack.

Alakazam returned; the lesions upon its skin festering as it sat itself by Desmond's side.[break][break]

There was a moment of silence from the Head Scientist as he held his hiding spot, watching the events unfold without his interference. His psychic pokemon took that chance to display the full extent of its injuries. With his attention split, there was only so much that he could garner from the sections of its body that had almost burst.[break][break]

It was like filling a balloon with too much air; the skin had been stretched too thin from where the power had been absorbed, and it had sought an exit to relieve the pressure.[break][break]

This creature was far stronger than it appeared to be.[break][break]

“Livius. Telekinesis,” and he would issue those commands as the voice of anya fowl greeted his ear-piece; he would press his thumb against the device to speak, “Right on time. Keep your distance, and be aware that it has proven resistant to fire attacks.”[break][break]

The Alakazam would close its eyes, raising a trembling and split hand to cast its psychic energy towards the creature.[break][break]

“I'll be testing the effectiveness of psychic attacks—I'll continue to try and nail down its typing,” and the psychic attack would raise nearby rocks and other rough projectiles that the forest could offer; they were launched at high speed, aiming to collide against the glass-like hide of this suspended creature.[break][break]

tldr: alakazam uses telekinesis and psychic. desmond is pondering if psychic attacks will be effective.

He hit the ground; his ears ringing and head throbbing from the sound blast that continued to reverberate in his skull. Surely, had the underboss clasped a hand to his head, he would have thought it was trembling from the sheer force that had just coursed through his body—and it had smashed into him with this force from such a distance! Such an achievement would have put any Exploud to shame.[break][break]

“It is far more solid than mere observation would have anticipated,” he called into the headset, “if that creature is capable of reflecting a blow from a sharpened blade and able to create that level of sound, then it will most likely be composed of—” and the man scrambled to his feet, wondering if anyone could hear his observations over the verbal bombardment they had just endured. “—A hard, reflective, nonporous substance,” because he was assuming that the sound had to originate from the creature, not from its subjects suspended by the white appendages.[break][break]

“Regardless of the origin of the sound, the state of Bisharp's blade will support that assumption,” and in his scramble to regain his senses, he chucked out a second capsule.[break][break]

Alakazam came to the field.[break][break]

Bisharp would not be left trembling in the field; ally swap would change the positions of the two pokemon. Alakazam would find himself where the Bisharp once was, and vice-versa.[break][break]

His eyes would seek the blades of his trembling Bisharp, noting how they seemed chipped—the sound that had resounded from the pokemon upon the strike of Guillotine had been similar to glass. A steel-type? A rock-type? These conventions could not be easily applied.[break][break]

This was a being from another plane of existence—type conventions could not be a perfect fit. “Presume it is either steel or rock type in nature, until testing proves otherwise. Be aware that this creature will not abide by the rules that we normally apply to these typing—this thing will not function as though it were a normal pokemon—if we could even call it a pokemon.”[break][break]

“It seems to have impeccable defenses... let's see how strong it stands,” and Alakazam would not need an order from his master to execute its next move: Guard Swap.[break][break]

tldr: desmond has observed that the creature must be composed of a hard, reflective, nonporous substance; believes it may be steel or rock on this assumption. he deploys alakazam and has it use ally switch to swap positions with bisharp and guard swap to sap the creature's defenses.

“Let's test and see,” and he would take his stance behind a tree as the Bisharp was deployed as bait—if the bladed pokemon lost his life in the process, then that would be more data gathered. “Try and retrieve one of the scientists, if you're capable of cutting through.”[break][break]

The dark-type would follow those commands, charging down one of the scientists and executing guillotine at the white protrusion, darting out from the cover of grass to try and strike hard and fast.[break][break]
