a cross counter!

this was going to be a tough gym challenge no doubt. dervish managed to shake off the attack just fine until the wind started to pick up and he could feel small pebbles hit his hide as a hurricane was starting to form around him. starmie took the brunt of the storm as it was pelted with larger rocks and knocked back to the edge of the arena. it would have gone over the line if not for dervish seeing its double battle partner heading its way and moving to intercept its trajectory, catching it and setting on its two feet.

a thankful series of sounds came from the star pokemon before it felt itself nearly weightless again. and not just it but dervish too! the winds were so strong and they were caught off guard by the air slash that slammed into them that they were literally losing their footing as both of them rose a few inches off the ground.

their attention were focused on the opposing team, the charizard in particular, sure the castform was conjuring the winds but that one was the one taking advantage of it. and so both starmie and nidoking knew it needed to go down. blue lights formed around them, one inside dervish's mouth and another in starmie's gem, and both of them unleashed their attacks at the charizard. water sprouted form from starmie in a hydro pump that would surely douse whatever fighting spirit the flying lizard had while the cool chill of dervish's ice beam was sure to freeze it in its tracks as well.

watching the smaller body flop against the mat and lay prone for a good few seconds brought a smile to shinra's face. hearing him surrender just shot a sense of pride and victory throughout his body. another opponent down and out! he raised his arms and flexed his muscles for the cheering audience as he let out a victory roar for them. the high he was riding was pretty great.

once the showboating bug passed him he walked over to stand over noah and help him to his feet. "c'mon buddy. ya need to stand up for yer fans." propping him up with one arm till he was standing on his own two feet. once he was sure the kid was balancing fine he grabbed noah's arm and raised it into the air and pointed to him and gave him a thumbs up to the crowd who gave him his own applause.

"not half bad buddy." he pulled him into a side hug with his large arm wrapped around his shoulder as he lead him out of the ring. "your speedy, but maybe try to bulk up a bit so you can take some punishment. your too squishy. still was that your first wrestling match? cause i gotta say, you gave a seven outta ten for that. need me to take ya to the nurse's table?"

he couldn't believe that he was out here with this guy again of all people. like seriously what the odds? a gacha game has better odds than this!

honestly what was more surprising was that he suggested they team up and try to handle whatever was lurking around together as a team. shinra had to raise and eyebrow at the suggestion, mainly because their history together wasn't something one would call a basis for good teamwork. still shinra knew he would have to be dumb to try and deny the help at least.

at least the display of jet's lapras acting like a smug 'mon was a good treat. it honestly earned him a chuckle as he was appointed lead on this team. "yeah yeah sure. c'mon i think i saw some tracks lead this way. so your lapras always do that to you or just when your around company?" the answer to that would hopefully be given soon as the sound of more wood crunching signaled the arrival of two dragonites that towered over the two trainers.

"uh...found the perps-" the two dragons launched their attack at them. as the twister surged across the ground shinra was face to the face with one of them that ended up rushing at them. shinra was the one right in front of it too, and knowing that he wouldn't be able to whip out one of his pokemon fast enough he only had one choice left. "bring it on ya punk!" he locked up with the dragonite as he took the full force of its attack as it pushed him along the ground before throwing him onto the ground in a cloud of dust.

now he was bringing out his whole team to help him out? pretty sure that was cheating, sure shinra has dante out but that's still one pokemon against his three! plus he would have the same problem as well. a lurantis can't hold a snowball and a pikachu and cubchoo are sort of too small for chucking things at other people.

as more snow was exchanged between them shinra began to feel the fatigue of moving about so much in a cold place such as the beach during this time of the season. his joints were stiff and his breathing heavy. but his tunnel vision on burying this guy was even worse, so worse that he couldn't see the ghost suddenly pop into his peripheral and send him screaming into his incineroar. his bulk being a bit larger than the cat pokemon and the two fell into the snow butt first and were pelted with more of it from the opposing side.

"overreaction?!" cried out shinra as he sat up with his hair covered in white slush and wet with melted snow while dante laid there in a daze, his arms and legs twitching to make bad snow angels. "says the guy who brings out his whole team to help out!, fine fine we give alright?" he raised his hands up in defeat and slowly made his way over to jet's side of the battlefield. "your the better man at snowball fights. happy? sides i think this beach is getting a bit crowded. no?" he jerked his head over to where some more wild pokemon were busy getting a bit too close to the low tide side of the beach instead of keeping to their own selves.

his fists collided with noah's ~~noodle~~ arms and he had to admit that the guy had some good defenses. he looked like he was taking on the weight of the world but was still standing fairly well. breaking him was going to be fun. of course if simple strikes wasn't going to work then shinra was going to have to try something else to show him why he was the stronger man in this ring. so it was time to introduce this fighter to some good old wrestling tactics.

one more strong jab would be given to noah's midsection before shinra's towering form seemed to lower itself in front of him. his two arms reached out to grab noah's body, one arm would grip tightly on his shoulder and the other on his opposite sided thigh with an equally firm grip. shinra had to act fast to not give infernape boy a chance to figure out what was going to happen before he turned his whole body around, lifting noah's form and then slamming his body into the mat like a charizad slamming down someone with a seismic toss.

"yeah ok that's fair. nearest center ain't around here for about...a few miles. and i only have so many potions." he kind of had to keep in mind of his own stock of things to keep the team in top shape when they went outside. shinra had a bad habit of pushing his team a bit during their little training sessions and is way too willing to throw them at the nearest wild pokemon whenever one got to his campsite. honestly he was surprised they were all cool with it.

"would you believe me if i said that pikachu is kinda the lowest ranking member of the team? guy's cute but he's got a lot to work with." anthony looked at shinra, offended that he would say such a thing. sure it was true but he shouldn't say it nonetheless. "but i still love the guy." ok maybe that helped ease the strain that was their relationship now. either way the pikachu went back to nibbling on the last bits of his tail.

the sounds of hoothoots echoed in the night and caught shinra's attention. had it gotten that late already? "well then when we can we should have a battle. just so you can see up close how tough my pokemon can be. for now though...we might wanna turn in. heard ursarings love to wander around this area real late. you wanna stick with us till morning? we have...an extra blanket or two. i think."

shinra and dante both watched the guy go down. shinra had to look at his hand and try to imagine just how hard he could have thrown that while jet was being nursed by his arcanine. "guess i'm strong-" shinra's moment of reflection was cut off by a snowball to the face.

"hell yeah its on!" he shouted as snow dripped off his face and he and dante started to scoop up snow and throw it at the blue haired man and his arcanine. as they did shinra scooped up a passing togepi who decided to watch the scene. as it cried he quickly ducked behind dante to apoligize and stick it into a ball for safe keeping before rejoining the fray.

"don't ya think this is a bit of an overraction though! i just wanted to give your arcanine a good petting!" even if that was true shinra himself wasn't helping the situation.

the charred remains of what was once a grove were still hot. hot to the touch as shinra kept his feet as light on the floor as much as he could. also hot to the air as he was struggling a bit to keep a good bit of fresh air down his throat. to think that the new years would start off with something like a dragon running wild and trying to tear down a nearby town. maybe this was bit above shinra's paygrade but the chance to catch a pokemon as strong as something that could do this? well that was a bit hard to really pass up, it would certainly make battles a hell of a lot easier. thinking about it now what even was his team?

as he trekked through the remains the sound of a twig snapping sent his body into motion, his arms were brought up in the usual boxing stance and his muscles tenses, his body flexing itself as he made himself appear bigger than he already was before swiveling around to face the source. "so the big bad's come out to play with me huh-wait...you?! what the hell are you doing here?"

the rain pelting down managed to ease the humidity around them and let shinra's heated spirit cool off as he watched his strategy get decent results. the little cloud pokemon was pretty slippery, especially now that it was one floating water balloon that just squeezed past the earth power. luckily starmie managed to hit its mark with no problem, and really the only problem was the charizard that was coming right for dervish. the nidoking was all too happy to accept its challenge.

shinra not so much. "starmie! pin down that water balloon with some of that psychic power, dervish. give that lizard a taste of its own poisonous jabbing!"

the gem in starmie's center glowed as its psychic energy was released, the rain surrounding the castform suddenly freezing in midair before being blown away by powerful invisible energy with the weather pokemon in the center of the attack.

dervish took the dragon claw, letting out a loud roar as it felt it cut across his chest. however the display of pain was short lived as the nidoking rushed forward and pushed itself against the charizard, slamming one arm down to keep it low to the ground while bringing its other arm in an uppercut to its face. only this arm was coated in a purple acid that swirled around dervish's arm ready to leave some burns of its own on the fire type.

"what wouldn't you pet a cute pokemon?" wasn't that just the natural response?

well he was sure that the natural response to that isn't throwing a snowball at someone because one hitting shinra's chest was a surprise. "ok ok. I get it. I won't touch your pokemon. you on the other hand..." shinra scooped up some snow and simply tossed it at jet with a strong throw. "but your free game yeah?" he purposefully missed the guy in an attempt to make it known that he was willing to throw down if need be. "and the names shinra by the way. so ice types huh. I guess...something like those ain't for you huh." seeing the two peokemomn nearby shinra took out a ball and tossed it at the swirlix, it was cute enough to pal around with him for a while. would probably make a nice secret santa gift.

"y'know...i don't think your going to find much pokemon here at the beach of all places. sure its cold but...its a beach dude. maybe at a lake you'd have better luck."

his feet pounded the mat with enough force to make it shake a little as he got closer. he could almost reach little noah! too bad for shinra he forgot that smaller guys tended to be a little more nimble than he gave them credit for and noah was already proving that. he watched as he quickly jumped onto the ropes and used them to jump over him, the small push of his hand was enough to send shinra shoulder first into the turnbuckle.

the man let out a roar of frustrated pain as he stumbled back holding his shoulder and gave the smaller guy a glare when he heard the comment about him being like a buffoulant. he wanted to take it as a compliment, shinra really did. "and you remind me of my infernape." he shook off the pain frm his shoulder and stomped towards noah, this time going for another rush but stopping short of him to deliver two hit combo of heavy jabs at his face and ending with a leg sweep that was more meant to cripple his legs than actually sweep him off his feet.

he grabbed her hand and gave it a firm shake, his own hand almost dwarfing hers as he gave her his best smile. "well then pleasure to meet ya celestine. and don't worry i'll be sure to treat a pretty lady like you right. c'mon, lets go get something to eat."

without even letting go of her hand he led her to a small little restaurant and ordered a table for two. inside they were seated at a table with a few other people on the other side as this place was a place that specialized in grilled foods as each table surrounded a grill in the middle so people could watch the chefs cook meals with skill. "never been here myself, but i've read about it so much i just had to try it. sure you'll like it too. hey chef! two bowls of beef to start us off!" as their meal was being prepared shinra kept his smile up as best as he could before ordering some drinks for them.

"so celest, uh mind if i call you that? you a local here in town? ain't from here, or the region for that matter."

shinra listened as annie listed off her so called tenets. from what he could gather it was what she referred her pokemon team as. he nodded along after the first two but then she kept going without interruption. and then kept going. and going. she sure had a lot of breath going for her.

"wait wouldn't that be six tenets then?" was all he could slip out before she went on again about how they were ready for anything that would come their way and meet it with a good fight. shinra had to pay respect to her confidence about it, not a lot of people he knew would go along with whatever act she had, if it even was one, and still be sitting there like they were the top dog around.

when asked if he would do the same if he met a wild pokemon shinra grinned as he felt his confidence rising. "oh yeah. wild beast or wild trainer i'll take anything on. heck i'll take on your whole camp." a challenge that was really a joke but if she did take it...well he just said he'll take on nearly any challenge now did he? "my whole team's ain't amateurs, after all we couldn't do this sort of thing often if we didn't know how to take care of ourselves. right boys?"

dante looked up at shinra and raised his arm in a flex, his bicep bulging underneath all that fur as the incineroar let out a toothy grin. meanwhile anthony just let out a quick "chu!" as he went back to nibbling on his tail. "See? they're ready for anything!"
