If there had been anguish, it had already been compartmentalized. Stress could run itself into the emotions of passion; frustration was more true to what she felt, and what she breathed as these days passed.[break][break]

Bailey turned her attention away from Arian, and back to Groudon in the distance; an entire legendary, suddenly commanded by the raise of her pokeball.[break][break]

A single beam, condensing his mountain of might.[break][break]

He was recalled back to the capsule, resting in a vessel that was no different from the others that lined her waist.[break][break]

At least dahlia goode kept it simple. Kept it sweet. Said she could do it, and gave Bailey the keys to drive down a hell path of her own making.[break][break]

"What you said—it was nice, but that's not what's on my mind. It doesn't apply."[break][break]

She would take a step forward; tone low and controlled even if something burned beneath her ribs.[break][break]

“Well, besides Lopez,” without him, she would be more fucked than she already was.[break][break]

In the distance, she could hear the churning; earth, displaced, scraping against itself as it manually shifted. The aftermath of such movement manifesting as a tremor beneath the very ground, rattling up her spine.[break][break]

“I'm not scared of any of it. I'm not hesitant about any of it. I don't have a single fucking regret about any of it—but I know what I have to do.”[break][break]

And it meant so much more than what loomed behind her.

She would raise her flashlight as the dust would clear, just to try and spy what had been hidden underneath.

Hoenn was in shambles, and this man was talking about shopping?[break][break]

Maybe, an earlier Bailey would have felt tempted by the offer. The thought that her job was disposable—that her time was her own—were the thoughts of a young cadet, in her early twenties, wanting nothing more than the chance to scrape it back for herself.[break][break]

They were the thoughts of someone that thought that they were replaceable. The thoughts of someone trying to be selfish with their time, acting with the knowledge that someone could easily fill their place.[break][break]

That was no longer the case.[break][break]

She stiffened at the grasp, then, recoiled with her lips parted to bare the white flash of teeth.[break][break]

“Does it look like I have time for that?”[break][break]

For the faintest moment, her breath condensed like steam. Rolling, like a boil, the only surviving Champion stood fast and squared her shoulders.[break][break]

“Listen, all that stuff you just said? Real nice, but there's more pressing bullshit for me to deal with,” she felt the stress, and felt it show. “And I'm not even close to being done. Not here, not anywhere.”[break][break]

“You wanna hear about some half-witted news story from some hack? Go bug the HNN. Ask them how they'll put a colorful twist on the next terrorist attack—how all the chunks of body parts will really worked to accentuate my features the next time I'm in somebody's arms.”[break][break]

A pause.[break][break]

“Or, better yet, when I'm in a coffin. We got a real good track record for that.”

“Fire punch, but, like, don't punch anything. We just need a light,” and the fire-type pokemon would adhere to her command, raising up one large fist to be encased in flame; illumination similar to a raised torch as it followed after them.[break][break]

“Wonder what's next,” and if the goodies would get better the deeper they would go.

She almost jumped out of her own skin.[break][break]

The Champion, half-filled with an urge to reach for her belt, only paused when she caught sight of the straw-hat. It was what she initially registered—for some reason, it had stood out far more than the features of this unexpected guest.[break][break]

His croak, and further strain from the sand, was enough to make her snort.[break][break]

She regretted it.[break][break]

Tasting and spitting sand, Bailey would have to use an arm as a shield to stop the sudden updraft.[break][break]

“Yo!” She would greet in return, disarmed in that simple moment of bafflement. Her subsequent cough proving she had also fallen victim to the torrent.[break][break]

But, that discomfort was easily forgotten.[break][break]

Because, if only for a moment, she could transition to an old-mindset. Like brushing away cobwebs, Bailey sought to retrieve an old fraction of herself, who would have been more than pleased at this encounter.[break][break]

“I mean, I dunno. Guess people know me? Kinda weird, to be honest,” but, still rusty, she knew her smile was not in full-force.[break][break]

“Sure. You can stick around. More the merrier, or some shit.” A pokeball was finally retrieved, releasing a Solrock that floated in an almost absent-minded fashion.[break][break]

“But, only after I comb this place for goodies,” and with that departing remark, the Champion would descend into the depths of the ruins.[break][break]

And, maybe, this could be something to lighten her mood.

She side-eyed Arian, feeling the blister of his tease rub the wrong way.[break][break]

“Yeah, guess I'll just have to keep cleaning up messes and saving cities without any credit.” That was an attempt at sarcasm, but it ran too true for Bailey to fully dismiss. There were people in the League that felt that way.[break][break]

Maybe, just maybe, nobody should ever own a Legendary.[break][break]

But it felt too fucking good for her to care.[break][break]

She stared, dead-eyed at his praise. “Only Dahlia gets to butter me up like that. Fuck outta here with that shit,” and despite her words, her tone was more dismissive than combative.[break][break]

The Champion rolled back her shoulders, watching Groudon from afar as he seemed to finalize his work; lava hardening into a black streak, rich with heat and nutrients to canvas the landscape.[break][break]

With time, it would cool and meld.[break][break]

His inspection of her face would only make her scowl; the different Bailey more than aware that there had been a change.[break][break]

Maybe minor. Maybe massive.[break][break]

“My job is to get ready for the next hurdle.” In whatever shape it may take.

It happened in the dead of night.[break][break]

A clatter, then followed by the sound of a rock being flung at the highest perched window; the pebble bounced against the glass surface, unable to find purchase.[break][break]

In Lucas Lane's front yard, Binkleton the Carbink levitated another rock and prepared to take aim. It seemed like tears were gathering in the eyes of the old Carbink, who's fluff accumulated around the mouth almost like a fashionable mustache. He seemed old, almost wise, and the mournful look in the eyes of the rock pokemon encouraged him to launch another projectile.[break][break]

He had thought he had witnessed his queen; the pink-shape of his lord, if only for a moment.[break][break]

Bailey Cooper was none the wiser to the antics of her rock pokemon. She was too occupied; lounging in her living room in a pair of sweatpants while staring at her laptop screen.

Their reconstruction had unearthed something.[break][break]

In the rolling dunes, Bailey Cooper had withdrawn her Legendary and opted to travel by foot; she was trekking lone over the dunes and into the slants, where the wind stripped down to bare rock, and exposed what hid underneath.[break][break]

Ruins. She could identify that these rocks were man-made, just by their shape and how they were arranged.[break][break]

She searched through her bag, retrieving a long flashlight that was no longer than her index finger. It was the type of trinket someone would carry on their keychain—not for the stretching caverns that lingered before her.[break][break]

Zubats fled from the entrance, spooked by the thin beam her torch emitted.[break][break]

She stood, unfazed by the torrent of their wings. “...Echo!”[break][break]

Her shout would be greeted by the return of her voice, just to confirm how deep the ruins went.[break][break]

And, for a brief moment, she would smile to herself.[break][break]

An outpost of League personnel was stationed nearby; they had been documenting her post-war reconstruction with Groudon, and the Champion felt that they were soon to arrive to question where she had gone.

Her voice trailed, almost aimless, as she would piece together what Noelle meant.[break][break]

She does not know the pinkette well, but the her words would cut through that unfamiliarity. “I'm... I'm...”[break][break]

The news played, confirming the death of ALEXANDER STONE.[break][break]

Another champion dead.[break][break]

Bailey was the only one left. Maybe, that registered in some dark corner of her mind, preaching that her own fall would be soon to follow.[break][break]

Unless she got better. Unless she got more.[break][break]

Solrock would activate Stone Edge, tearing chucks of concrete from the ground to be fashioned into weapons that would be flung in the direction of the ultra beast.[break][break]

Blaziken would opt to remain near her, utilizing Bulk Up as its Speed Boost worked to further augment its flame. It would have to be faster, stronger...[break][break]

And after pulling back in an attempt to avoid the Bug Buzz, Gliscor would sweep in again and attempt to execute another Fire Fang.[break][break]
