LATE SEPTEMBER — as ultra wormholes are sighted in the seas of hoenn, the region begins to be tainted by poisons, the source of which is unknown. parts of hoenn's seas darken with toxic waste, like oil spills. for this reason, head scientist, lucas lane, has entrusted volunteers with a special antidote formula that he has helped create with elite four, thomas benoit's sludge sample.[break][break][break]

here, several miles south of pacifidlog town, an ultra wormhole has appeared. local sailors have reported the sighting of an ultra beast shortly before their radio communication was cut. from their descriptions, the league community has give this particular species the codename: UB-01 symbiot. keep an eye on it until reinforcements arrive. considering the danger ultra beasts entail, approach at your own discretion.

When Nihilego came within sight Lucas kept his aerodactyl from flying forward, instead opting to keep it at a stand still midair.

Lucas reached for a ball fastened to his belt, and with a slight bit of force he managed to wrench the ball off off. He clicked the ball's trigger, causing a red light to appear briefly before solidifying into a cutiefly. It swayed from side to side as it awaited Lucas' instructions.

"Moonblast." Lucas pointed toward nihilego with the hand that clutched the pokeball.

As the sphere of lunar energy swept through the air the gopro fastened to Lucas' helmet blinked in sync with the crashing waves below.

the dispatchment from the team's submarine is small and sent quickly, as soon as the reports surface. it's only him, his two pokemon, and the grunt at the helm as they draw nearer.

two luxray - one male, one female - weave across the deck, their eyes affixed on the beast and staring. they see its every movement, they've seen it since their little boat had just breached the horizon. dominic, in turn, watches them for any reaction; every snarl, every twitch of a muscle, every swivel on an unblinking eye.

they sail onward, cresting the waves, and dominic finds his gaze lingering on the others as they all congregate at this single point below the zenith of the wormhole.

they might die, he thinks, turning to glance at the luxray.

"WILD CHARGE," he orders, arms crossed against the chill and the seaspray as he watches the scene unfold.

kyle is with his manectric against one of the pokemon that was too familiar with him. he remains his distance, having seen the effects that the commissioner has suffered under its influence. long ranged attacks were the safest at the moment.

also he's on a boat while he's attacking.

electric attacks from afar eventually manage to down the ultra beast eventually. he looks around, scouting for the damages done by the ultra beast. most pokemon were down, although he inspects them personally to make mental notes for a report.

"anyone hurt?" kyle asks everyone else, a hand touching one of the pokemon slumped on the ground. hands heat up, a sensation he's hand has been numb for, as he revitalizes the said pokemon he's in contact with.

Her skin beginning to ache from the sun and her mind tired from the trials of the day, she opts to stay outside for a while. Let the cool sea breeze soothe her burns and the serenity of the floating town give her some comfort. Of course her life cannot be so simple. She came to Hoenn with some hope of building herself up to something, but she never planned for the building to happen so fast.

Panic hits and suddenly rangers are scrambling past. If she can't make out the reason from their frantic calls to one another she can certainly make it out in the distance. She'd heard of the Ultra Beasts in occasional news broadcasts abroad but knowing there's one so close runs a thrill down her spine. Reason says to go the other way, but her racing heart tells her to go ahead with a building crowd towards the thing. But being so obvious feels dangerous. Tentacruel is too big a target.

After a moment she releases her recently captured Tentacool and hops into the water.

"Move us up, avoid the crowd, do your best not to get spotted by anything," it's a tall ask for a small Pokemon, but to his credit he doesn't hesitate. The moment she has her arms around his head he's pushing forward, with a boost from her kicking legs. If they can go unseen, great. If they can't, the rest of her Pokemon are on her person for support.

But, as she draws closer and the Ultra Beast's silhouette becomes more clear she isn't sure it would matter. Probably best to try to go unseen. As they draw close to an island she tries to separate from her Tentacool and stealthily slip to the shore.

An ultra wormhole. That was never a good sign. She had flown down as fast as she could the moment she had gotten wind of the news on the back of her Togekiss. And there it was, That terrifying tentacle monstrosity that had shown its face back in Slateport. Ruby's fists clenched as she held on tightly to her flying pokemon, making sure to steer clear. There was no way she was letting anything get in close to that thing, and judging by other people also coming down, it was clear that some sort of altercation was going to occur.

"Amor, stay back and use Aura Sphere. Don't bring us in close. Try and scare it back where it came from." Amor let out a confident cry as the sphere of energy formed in front of it. Quickly blasting away, Ruby hunkered down on the back of her pokemon as the energy attack launched towards the Ultra Beast in the distance. Hopefully, everyone could quell this beast before there was a repeat of Slateport.

She turns around to high-tail it out of there, to absolutely nope the fuck out and leave this for someone else to work with. But it turns out she's been spotted, hailed down, flagged, ordered, begged on their hands and knees to be helped. Ultra wormholes and beasts and whozawhazits were absolutely not their thing, but there were puppy-dog eyes and tears involved and she was weak.[break][break]

And because of that, she sends out something to try and stave off the beasts chasing them. It's a futile attempt, surely. But she's using the CRYOGONAL as a buffer to escape herself. She was really just saving her own ass and grabbing the arm of someone else on her way out. Turns out this swimming exercise she'd been using to get shredded before the raid was a big ass mistake. So much for trying.[break][break]

The Cryogonal freezes the water as she runs, enabling her to not swim but race across the ice. She wipes out, probably, or uses the person as a buffer to help her with her own escape. Hopefully her Cryogonal wasn't crushed into a thousand tinier snowflakes. [break][break]

Before the water swallows her whole, she can feel the wings of her Noivern envelop her and pull her to safety. Emma glances back only once to see if her Cryogonal has survived. [break][break]

Despite the dangers from the events before hand Razz still was determined to do what he could. He's heard of these wormholes before in the articals but still was surprised to see it as it popped out an 'ultra beast' that resembled the jellyfish pokemon. He tried to see if his DexApp would give any info on what this thing could be but all it gave back was 'No Data.' He was really going to need to ask the other rangers if any of them knew these things as he hated going in clueless. Razz groans as he grabs a pokeball from his belt. [break] [break]

With only that to go on he could only hope he was choosing something of a decent typing to go against the unknown beast as he sent out a pokeball to release the apple dragon, Jam. The young ranger whistled once in order for Jam to use GRAV APPLE on the creature standing back as the dragon flew above to send raining apples at it's target of unknown nature.[break] [break]

taking a jet ski was probably not the best thing for a hero to do, but of course kaz would turn back after borrowing it as soon as he was done checking out this so called ultra beast that showed up. parking the watercraft just out of its detectable vision, he hoped that he was the right distance away, the woobat that had followed him from his cave started to flutter around his head giving off happy chirps that they were hanging around with kazimir who was sort of worried about it attracting attention. "shhh man, ya gotta be quiet or that big beast is gonna find us. now c'mon, i want a closer look at it."

FEW EVADE THE ULTRA BEAST'S TOUCH. Even so much of a splash is enough to melt through the strongest of metals. Numerous boats are set to sink as the SLUDGE WAVE washes through both flesh and ocean alike. It becomes abundantly clear how their reach has spread so fast when the ocean rolls through the toxins, spreading the purple sludge in a matter of seconds. [break][break]

Those who stray too close to the Nihilego are melted in a quick but agonizing demise. Along with their capsizing boats, both rangers and volunteer trainers now find themselves scrambling to mount their flying Pokemon. Those without a way out have to rely on their rescue boats to escape, praying that the plastic and rubber don't melt before they're able to vacate the immediate battlefield. [break][break]

Several Pokemon are lucky enough to survive the Nihilego's attack. Minor exposure to the neurotoxins isn't enough to dissolve essential organs but the boiling scabs that gloss over their wounds hint at more sinister damage. LIFE DEW and HEALING PULSE may cover up the physical scarring but the poison runs deep. There's not enough of Lucas Lane's ANTIDOTE to go around so only the most severe cases are treated on site. Other victims will be treated later when they're able to reroute them to the proper lab or hospital. But, unbeknownst to them, it'll already be too late. [break][break]

kyle lopez's HERO COMPLEX pushes him to try and attend to those who've died on site. When he touches what remain's of LUCAS LANE'S CUTIEFLY a strange power courses through his hand. A sliver of SACRED FIRE runs across his skin, igniting into a few embers that dance along the Pokemon's exposed flesh. They do not burn further but instead encourage both blood and tissue to reform once more. [break][break]

What was once dead comes back but it's more hideous then ever. The permanent damage by the Nihilego's poison changes the fundamental structure and biology of Pokemon down to a cellular level. What Kyle has revived is not a normal Cutiefly but one with a heart too big for it's tiny body and it collapses within itself as it dies again. Green insectoid blood splurts into his face as its limbs shake uncontrollably, twisting unnaturally as spines start to protrude from the rekindled flesh. [break][break]

Psychologically, Kyle recognizes this thing is an abomination and Ho-oh's influence forces him to burn it into ash. Had there have been more of a body, or more samples, perhaps using the Legendary's latent rage could've made something useful out of the remains. [break][break]

As the League acquires more dead bodies their autopsy reports will start to paint a clearer picture of what they're up against. Much like their discovery due to Thomas Benoit's sample, Nihilego's poison is more potent then anything they've ever seen before. Exposed flesh proves resistant to the ACID of other Pokemon. Admittedly, it's hard to test since the only viable subjects are already deceased Pokemon but the scientist are confident enough behind their premise to publish it (considering the urgency of their research). [break][break]

What doesn't go into the report is Kyle's own findings. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that his revival powers had an inverse effect on those mutilated by the poison. Yes, it came back to life, but such drastic changes made it impossible for the Pokemon to sustain it's new body. Maybe if he had been quicker, he could've prevented it. [break][break]

Hopefully, he'll never have to test that theory, because the only way he could've been faster is if that Pokemon were right next beside him, such as one of his own. [break][break]

FEW NAVIGATE THE WATERS ON FOOT. Dominic’s Luxray finds poise in disregarding the other around it. Its job is singular; eliminate the enemy with extreme prejudice. Even at the cost of its own well being, evident with how it lunges at the Pokemon with reckless abandoned, there’s no regret when fur and bone alike rattle against the resilience of solid stone. Flesh will bruise and it will hurt, but the Pokemon will recover, stronger and more durable as muscle mend under the cover of a well placed catnap. [break][break]

However, a WILD CHARGE comes with a steep price. Without the precision and agility to dodge the poison’s splash-back, the Pokemon comes under the same injuries as those that make it out alive. It seeps in and the very muscles that were meant to recover bulge underneath their forced exertion. [break][break]

Attacking no longer hurts as long as the damage is done — just as things ought to be. [break][break][break]

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE COMES IN HANDY. Despite his simple tactics, Kyle understands both the dangers of the Ultra Beast as well as how to handle them. The sacrifices are great but the Elite Four member avoids disaster through sheer distance. His Manectric keeps up with the constant onslaught of electric attacks, every hair on its mane pointed up as static keeps them frizzled. Thunder clouds settle above, easing the Pokemon’s ability to store and use the electricity coursing through its main. [break][break]

But unfortunate accidents happen to the best of us. As the less fortunate begin to sputter away from the Nihilego, so do the waters they inhabit. The TOXIC is brought closer by the currents of those speeding off, spreading like wild fire as the battlefield becomes saturated by overturned waves and misplaced ripples. A particular fleet of (ten) boats cruises past and Manectric ends up drenched while trying to discharge a THUNDERBOLT. [break][break]

Kyle can towel it off but as with all dogs, the fur never gets dry at the first shake. The end result is the poison having an easier means of encroaching on the organ responsible for Manectric’s ability to generate electricity. Like an invasive phlegm onset from a terrible plague, the Pokemon will feel the poison do more than just wear it down. This parasite looks to make itself at home, festering, cohabiting in a productive way that assures its continual existence. Unfortunately, the body can’t always keep up; it may resist those weaker than it but just by existing it’ll slowly kill the host it seeks to protect. [break][break][break]
