Meteor Falls doesn't look the same, after the war. It bears scars that, though Gavin hadn't been there to witness the wounds, remind the Rocket underboss of the war. He can't bear to spend much time in the place so soon after the conclusion. Instead, he passes through it to Route 115 beyond, his Lucario keeping silent vigil at his side. All traces of hostility between the two have faded. War could do that to a bond.[break][break]

Ash drifts from the cherry of his cigarette as he takes a drag. He'd promised himself he'd quit smoking but it's one of the few ways he can cope, nowadays. He coughs, heavily, the noise no doubt attracting nearby wildlife...

A Lunatone floats past the edge of his vision, and Gavin's cough ends in wheezing laughter. He swipes at watering eyes and catches his breath, ignoring the judgmental stare from his Lucario. "Of course. Right when I pay for one..."[break][break]

At least the Lunatone he'd secured from a dealer was in better hands. The one in front of him continues to drift on its aimless path, and Gavin doesn't disturb it.

He's about to turn around and start the walk back home when he sees it — a rarity the likes of which he'd always wished to own. Relicanth are creatures of the deep, but this one seems to have swam closer to shore. Disturbed by the war, perhaps? They were still going through the arduous process of purifying much of Hoenn's waters in the aftermath.[break][break]

It seems to care little for his presence; even as Gavin reaches into his jacket and signals to his Lucario, the ancient fish barely stirs to acknowledge them. In his boyish excitement over the prospect of finally capturing one, Gavin fumbles a pokeball in one hand and a half-spent cigarette in the other.[break][break]

Readying a sphere of auric energy between its palms, Lucario draws close before cocking its head and letting the attack fizzle. Gavin's momentarily irate before he figures out why: the Relicanth is listless, barely moving.[break][break]

Poisoned, he thinks, grimacing.[break][break]

Gavin crouches down beside it, ignoring the water lapping at his waist, and looks to his canine partner. "Do what you can," he instructs, and keeps watch as Lucario spins droplets of life dew from the surrounding water. With the aquatic Pokemon stabilized, Gavin taps it with a ball. They'll stop by the Fallarbor Pokemon Centre before heading home.
