The Garchomp's scythe wedged itself between the Megalopolan's ribs like a butcher's knife in a slab of pork. The sickening squelch continued as the beast hissed and drove the scythe deeper, pinning the frail alien against the alleyway wall until it heard the man's final, rattling choke of a breath escape his mouth. With one firm pull, she removed herself from the corpse and let it slump to the ground below with a dull thud.[break][break]

Meanwhile, at the end of the dark alleyway, Remiel had found a staircase that led towards a basement door. Damkina dropped on all fours and crawled towards her master with great speed when he motioned for his partners to come. "Care to wager the rest are down there?" He nonchalantly remarked as he unsheathed a katana from its black pearlescent scabbard: a gift from the Johtonian government.[break]

Gavin's expression scrunches with distaste at the squelching sound. They were alien in origin but almost too human in the ways that they died. He feels no guilt for the one that falls to Garchomp's assault.[break][break]

His amber gaze shifts to Remiel.[break][break]

"Certainly looks like the sort of hole a cornered rat would crawl into." He lifts an eyebrow as Remiel readies a katana, opting instead to pull a pistol from his belt. No way he wanted to get in range of their teeth. "Let's go."[break][break]

The thrum of wings announces the return of Gavin's Naganadel from its sweep of the area; it had seemed a fitting companion for their mission. The Ultra Beast follows after the Rocket duo as they descend the steps.

What was once a storage room for the abandoned pub above had become a haven for the refugee soldiers of the opposing alien army. A small flock of Poipole scattered away from the door when Damkina had crashed through it. Flickering fluorescent lights provided the only illumination within. When a duo of Poipole opted to stand their ground and fight back, the Garchomp tore them down with a vicious DUAL CHOP.[BREAK][BREAK]

The scar of the injury Remiel had sustained at his right side, though healed at this point, ached at the sight of the Poipole. The war had given him this to remember them by... and, through strenuous research and collection of samples, a Poipole of his own. But he would show these no mercy, striding forward with his katana lowered until he caught up with a few huddled together in the corner.[break][break]

Cutting them down here seemed easier than it had been back at Mauville. This was likely thanks to their newfound fear.[break]

Some of them beg. They are the ones Gavin pities. He is all too familiar with the drive of self-preservation: he would go to any lengths to avoid capture and prosecution by the League, should it come to it. These aliens had been fighting for their lives.[break][break]

They beg, but he does not relent. Gunshots ring through the space and blood stains the walls. One of his victims stumbles back and collapses on a pile of bones, and Gavin's sympathies wear thin. They were fighting for their lives, but Gavin would not become their prey. Another shot finishes off the wounded soldier and he turns to survey the frightened Poipole.[break][break]

"Shame we're out of antidotes."[break][break]

They, too, must be put down.

The sole of his boot places itself firm against the side of the oozing Poipole's head. He keeps it there to steady the corpse as he pulls his blade out from its eye. A splatter of purple blood slaps against the wall when he swings the katana sideways. When the tremble of steel stills, he lowers his weapon and turns to meet Gavin. Behind him, the pile of once frightened Poipole remain still. The aura of their desperation has evaporated through the deep gashes across their bodies.[break][break]

"Lane has much else keeping his plate full, anyway," Remiel remarks, observing the pile of bones nearby before his Garchomp zooms past. Crashing through a set of double-doors, the dragon finds a small group of starving Megalopolans with electric batons. In vain they try to subdue the shrieking beast that has discovered them with her organic radar. Rendering these attacks useless, thanks to her Ground-typing, Damkina summons a STONE EDGE from the ground that spears three of them through the chest instantly.[break][break]

A few scream and sllp past her... only to come face-to-face with the Rocket elites.[break]

"Tch," Gavin spits, at mention of Lucas Lane. "I'll bet he does."[break][break]

Gavin hadn't mentioned his encounter with Lane to the admin, but he's unsure of what Remiel might have heard from Katherine's perspective... or perhaps that of the man himself. That was the thing with their double-agents: they often had direct connections to the enemy.[break][break]

Ire fuels him as the would-be escapees make a break for it, and at close range Gavin cannot trust his gun. He holsters it and throws a punch, instead, knuckles flaring with pain as cartilage splinters beneath the blow. Megalopolan blood ran red, just like his own, warm as it sprays across the back of Gavin's hand. His boot comes down hard on the alien's throat, crushing his windpipe and affording the Rocket enough time to retrieve his firearm and finish them off.[break][break]

Naganadel withdraws from the body of another, with a horrible buzzing sound that resembles a laugh.

Remiel eyes Gavin with a curious look after he makes his comment, but turns his attention forward as a Megalopolan tries to move past him. A flash of cold silver steel fills the room when he cuts the extraterrestrial on the side. His victim crashes into the floor and staggers as he desperately attempts to get back up. But, by then, Gavin's Naganadel makes short work of him.[break][break]

"Seems like he's left quite the impression on you since Mauville," The ambassador openly discerns, striding forward to catch up with Damkina as she finishes massacring the last of the Megalopolans in the next room. "Is he a problem worth eliminating at the moment? Or do his contributions prove too valuable for our organization as well?" He ponders, stepping into what appears to be a dusty old distillery.[break][break]

In the corner, he spots a rusty old cage. And, within it, civilians in tattered clothing huddled in the corner just as the Poipole had been. Emergency food for cannibals... but the ones they had just culled were frail and weak. Where was the alpha?[break]

"My impression dates back further than that." It's not entirely a lie; he was a scientist before he'd ever become an underboss. He shakes his head at the notion of eliminating Lane. "Take him out and we only afford him more credibility."[break][break]

He doesn't elaborate on what.[break][break]

Instead, with their quarry eliminated, Gavin begins to scour their makeshift hideaway for anything of use to Rocket. A stun baton fits neatly in his hand, and he retracts it before storing it in his jacket. If not as a weapon, it would make for interesting study material. A human femur cracks underfoot. "Savages."

Remiel crosses the room to release the captured civilians: teenagers, no older than fifteen. To call the cannibals that had kept them here savages was an understatement. They were cowards and scavengers, picking on the weak and innocent among Hoenn's populace. He could only hope the bones they had passed were not the bones of—[break][break]

"Graaa!"

A large and healthy Megalopolan leaps onto the Garchomp's back and attempts to stab its neck with a serrated knife. Damkina shrieks as she swings around and tries to shake the alien off. The blade meets her ROUGH SKIN, but does not manage to pierce her scales in the blur of combat. Before the large Megalopolan can try again, she slams her back into the wall and crushes him.[break][break]

When she swings back around, the crumpled heap of a man is finished with the swift and decisive strike of a scythe. Remiel, in the meantime, convinces the mute and traumatized children to exit the cage he has forced open and follow him. "Seems like we're done here. I'll have Damkina do a sweep of the rest of the building." The royal speaks, sending her off with a short whistle.[break][break]

Sheathing his blade, he gestures for the once caged teens to move past him and towards the exit.[break]

Kids. It's a line Gavin doesn't cross, not even for Rocket. He did his best to draw that line at innocents in general, but sacrifices had to be made for the sake of secrecy. He hasn't killed a child, yet. He hopes he never has to.[break][break]

With the meat of the job taken care of, Gavin is free to attend to other matters. He checks the phone he has on-hand for Rocket business, finding his schedule empty, and decides to fly back home. His laboratory awaited.[break][break]
