In the lower districts of Slateport, Zeraora is in its element — quite literally. The young, white-furred feline feeds off the energy left by fellow electric-types as it prowls alongside its trainer, sparks crackling between its whiskers as it absorbs the volts.

Having discarded the basic rubber gloves given to him by the League on acquisition of the Zeraora, Gavin instead sports a far nicer pair. It allows him to scratch the eager kitten behind the ears when they stop to rest, Gavin leaning against the weather-beaten brick of an abandoned building. He lights up a smoke, amber eyes scanning his surroundings.

as the shiny zeraora prowled alongside its trainer another one was prowling right behind them, eyeing its shiny cousin with a glint in its eyes. without a moment's hesitation it pounced at the other cat like pokemon, tackling it to the ground and rolling around with it with a yowl. except it wasn't actually trying to hurt it, not with its sheathe claws and a smile on its face as it quickly rolled to its feet and got on all fours like a common meowth wanting to play.

in the distance one could hear footsteps as a blond trainer entered the street, "simba! ya darn ball of fluff will ya slow down! so sorry dude my buddy here's been too full of energy all day." the trainer looked apologetic enough as he put his hands together and gave gavin a puppy dog look before glaring at his own zeraora. "hey simba! c'mon don't go bugging other folks like that!"

Gavin exhales smoke like a dragon's breath, relaxed up until the moment a blur of yellow suddenly slams into his Zeraora from the side. He startles, hand going to his belt as if to send out another ball, until he notices that the two kittens are playing.

"No harm done," Gavin says, after recovering from a cough. "Just startled me, is all."

Zeraora purrs as it bats back at Simba, and Gavin realises he's met this trainer before. More than that, they're both clearly victors of the Pokeathalon.

"Guess these two are siblings anyway, right?"

Not wanting to disturb their roughhousing, Gavin retrieves a different ball from his belt and sends out his Lycanroc. The werewolf tanks a tri-attack from a nearby Magneton before retaliating with close combat and bringing it down.

Needed one of these, anyway. Gavin tosses a ball.

kazimir's zeraora watches with intensity as the werewolf takes down a magneton that approaches them with swiftness and ease before being caught in a ball. he himself lets out a victory yowl on behalf of the trainer and his pokemon which causes kaz to laugh as he loosens up after being told there weren't any hard feelings for his pokemon's rambuctious nature. the comment about them being brothers got him thinking about when he first got the pokemon.

"yeah i think all of these were born in the same litter. haven't heard of new ones popping up anywhere else. i mean the pokeathalon wasn't that....long ago. hey!" he snaps his fingers in place of a lightbulb going off in his head. "weren't ya in the pokeathalon? i think we ran a few courses a few times. how ya been since then uh...um....crap sorry don't think i ever caught your name." talk about embarrassing, was he one of the guys he placed with on some of the courses? if so...wow was kazimir an insensitive ass.

Gavin's incredibly conscious of the cigarette poised between his fingers as the discussion shifts to the Pokeathalon. He'd been in his quitting phase, at the time, and could only wonder at how poorly he might've performed if he'd had to contend with smokers lung.

"Gods, the end of it was such a blur, it's a wonder I can remember my own name." He laughs along with the exaggeration. "Patrick. You?"

A ball of electricity fired off by a nearby Minun prompts his Zeraora into action, leaping into its path and eagerly absorbing it. With its whiskers crackling, the thunder cat yowls much as its sibling had done and discharges the excess voltage across the urban battlefield. Gavin winces at the painful shock, and Lycanroc snarls, but poor Minun's tiny body collapses under the unexpected strain.

"I keep telling him not to do that, but he gets too excited." He won't scold the kitten as harshly in public, opting for a stern look as he flattens down his static-shocked hair and tosses a ball. "We were doing all right until the aliens. I ended up in Mauville when they hit."

"kazimir. nice to catch up with someone from back then." honestly he lost count of how many people he even participated with. a few friends here and there but most of the time he was pretty sure it was with strangers that he completed the most courses with.

as the lightning bolts danced around them kaz froze up as he remembered the last time he got hit with on of those and ended up paralyzed for a good while. it was lucky that he had his own zeraora with him who jumped in front of him to absorb the lightning into its own body and enjoy it like it was a light snack. "thanks for the save simba. yeah i'm kinda familiar with how powerful these guys shocks can be. its kinda nuts how they can pack a punch for being little guys." he pats the zeraora's head as a thanks but begins to rub into it when he mentions them, his yellow cat starts to purr into his hand as kaz remembers the recent war that he and the whole region went through.

"i ended up at meteor falls. pretty crazy stuff to live through huh. you've been holding up alright since then? i know a few people who've been pretty shaken up about it."

A Voltorb mimics an oversized pokeball nearby, and Gavin pretends not to notice as his Zeraora bats at it like a ball of yarn. His attention remains on Kazimir, grimacing at mention of Meteor Falls.

"We're alive, so that's all right enough for me." Sometimes, Ultra Space slips into his dreams with memories of frost and void. "The Falls is right by my house, so it's a miracle I didn't lose it."

Fallarbor had sustained heavy damage in the war, but Gavin had been lucky in that the property damage had mostly been to his back fence and a portion of the roof. Repairs had been more of a hassle due to the time rather than funds, as Rocket didn't leave him wanting for money.

Gavin startles in surprise as Voltorb self-destructs, then bursts into laughter at the offended look on Zeraora's face.

his home was near the falls as well? talk about coincidences, they were dealt a lot of damage due to the fact that half the mountain collapsed in on itself. if only the people there could have stopped it earlier. can't change any of that now. "by the falls huh, ditto. guess we were secret neighbors."

he couldn't help but join in on the laughter when he saw the voltorb suddenly explode in the zeraora's face. as he did he didn't notice a toxel waddle up to his own zeraora and grab at its tail, earning it a yowl of pain. "oh crap. don't hurt the baby simba!" he tossed a pokeball to save the poor thing that earned his zeraora's ire as it turned around to pounce on it but got nothing but air.

"That so?" Gavin sounds amused. "I hope your house didn't sustain much damage; bad enough that we had to fight a war without losing a home to go back to."

His frazzled Zeraora, normally a rather friendly sort, takes out its anger at being duped on an unfortunate Mawile that wanders onto the scene. Thunder booms loud across the quiet street, heralding a lightning strike that catches the dual-type unawares.

"Been looking for one of these," he says idly, as if his Zeraora had not just chosen a target at random. "Nice work."

"not a house actually, but i did lose a spot that was kinda special to me during all of it." his thoughts drifted back to the cave that used to be his secret base for pokkenger and his back up team. the images of his pokemon wandering around the mountain like it was their own peaceful home was such a pleasant one that it was really heartbreaking knowing that they couldn't really enjoy it anymore. so he would have to find a new one for them soon as possible.

his zeraora suddenly perks his head up as a trash can rattles close by and out of it pops a pikachu eating out of a soup can oblivous to the group close to it. it suddenly wasn't so oblivious as the yellow cat decided to pounce on the yellow rat with a close combat knocking it to the floor with a whine. kaz let out a small sigh as he lobbed a pokeball at it to capture the little rat.

"might not have lost much but it still hurts y'know? like i can't believe i lived through an alien invasion. bet that was something no one expected this year. but hey, makes for a good story for the grankids am i right?"
