While it was almost impossible to tell day or night in a submarine so deep within the oceans of Hoenn, the tired lull of her body said otherwise. Sleep beckoned the head scientist, but work needed to be done.

From reviewing and creating various reports about samples collected from the very recently won war to approving, denying, and overseeing various research projects, the work seemed never-ending. And it unfortunately wasn't the fun kind either.

Usually, Circe was lenient with her scientists and subordinates to an almost uncaring degree. As long as they didn't bother her and listened when she needed them to, they could plug a fork into a socket for all she cared. Typically she would've casually shifted the role of managing all of this towards Eva with a conveniently 'blind' eye.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't work for recent events, it seemed. Too much demand for results she couldn't simply produce from thin air.

It seemed she'd be evading yet another night of good sleep.

Taking a break from tearing through a detailed autopsy report of a megalopolan, the woman briefly stopped by the break room. In the dead of night, it seemed oddly quiet, lonesome even. There was no sign of the usually chaotic ruckus that she found almost melodic. 'What a pity'

A coffee-filled mug was brought to her lips as she leaned against the wall, tired eyes occasionally clasping shut in an elongated blink. Sleep was calling by the moment, catching the usually sharp woman off guard. It was a faint caw from the murkrow on her shoulder that rouses her from the sweet release of slumber.

A hand abruptly jostles about as her head snaps upwards and a trickle of the black beverage splashes onto the floor.

"Shit," the hiss is more so automatic than genuine annoyance or regret; she had no intention of cleaning it up.

the redhead has been watching the pinkette for quite some time now, leaning on the entrance of the sleeping room, hand sticking inside his pocket while the other pushes the half-consumed stick of cigarette into his mouth. when the lady jolts from her seat, dropping her cup of coffee into the floor, a hearty chuckle escapes from valerio's lips.[break][break]

“how someone can sleep in the midst of drinking coffee will always amuse me.” pulling the last sip from his cig, he finally puts it out on the room's garbage bin.[break][break]

now that he can see her face clearly, he realizes the lady is unfamiliar to him. sure, he knows her by face and by her position in the echelon of the organization, but her name and her story is a mystery for him.[break][break]

but then, he also realizes that his name and his story may also be a mystery for her. everything's fair in the art of making friends.[break][break]

valerio produces the hand from his pocket and offers it to the newly-awakened head scientist. “i believe we haven't yet met? valerio dachev.”[break][break]

Words were spoken, but Circe either didn't hear them or was only halfway listening, as the scientist seemed to stay silent. Instead, she merely took another slow sip from what remained of her coffee, the incredibly bitter black liquid still doing little to rouse her from her fatigue. Finally, a small, "mhm," leaves her throat - as though she barely possess the energy to retort back in her usually snarky manner.

He approaches, a hand outstretching towards her, and the scientist's brows knit together for a moment. She's positive that she won't remember his name, more so from lack of care to rather than her tiredness. But, the woman does feign politeness, as a forced ghost of a smile etches across her lips.

"Crowe. Circe Crowe." She doesn't shake his hand though, merely staring at it before taking another ominously loud sip of her coffee, a distinct 'no' from her that words won't say.

"You're up rather late." She is too, but its not by any desire nor want to. And so, she slightly questions his rationality - why would any be willingly up at this godforsaken hour.

instincts tell him when he's being too overfriendly although they do not seem to stop valerio from doing what he is doing. even Cillian Quinn's insouciance can't sometimes stop him from being too friendly.[break][break]

“my baby kept me up late.” when the head scientist refuses his hand, he takes it as an invitation for another stick of cigarette. “i mean togepi.”[break][break]

the redhead's words hinge on the talks in the submarine about the strings of unluckiness connected with his curious togepi. even valerio is unaware of the powers eggnog have possessed after the seemingly failed attempt of shadowfication. to everyone's eyes, the togepi is just a baby. but he wonders if her marvel can tickle circe's interests.[break][break]

he extends his box of remaining sticks, thinking the lady might enjoy coffee a little bit more with nicotine. “what about you? doing some late night magic in the laboratory?”[break][break]

Brows furrow the moment a baby is mentioned. There's no denying the flash of disgust that briefly coats her expression, if not slight confusion. While Circe firmly believed that half of the rockets were degenerates who likely got knocked up the moment they knew what sex was, they were still criminals at the end of the day. Who, in their right mind, brought a child here of all places?

Before she could question it further though, her questions were absolved with a simple after statement. Confusion is replaced with a flat-lipped expression and blank stare. Irritation began to stir and its clear in the faintest twitch of her lips. "Then just return it. Or, get rid of it. You can even donate it to the Science Division. Just don't expect to get it back if you do." She waves off his statement with a hand, dismissing it.

"I wish." She sighs, the fatigue returning to her as she remembers how much work she has left to complete. "After war 'festivities'." The thought of dumping the rest of her burden on Eva becomes a more and more tantalizing thought.

His offer of a cigarette is met with a slight twist of her lips into a hint of a frown. It reminds her of Dominic and sours her mood even further. "You mind, actually? This coffee tastes bitter enough without me breathing in your smoke."

valerio giggles as circe scoffs, his chuckle suggesting he elicits the expected reaction. he pockets back the denied box of cigarettes, then raises his hands in submission. “hey, i didn't say i don't like her! i'm very happy with eggnog. she does neat tricks on those pesky grunts.”[break][break]

the mention of laboratory and the reminder of her work, however, fluctuates her expression of exasperation and exhaustion. valerio always thinks of scientists as overworked and underpayed individuals that's why most of them has the patience of a candle wick. “hmm, isn't that celebration long overdue?”[break][break]

valerio does not wait for her answer and continues musing. “are these studies about those ‘ultra beasts?’ are we to develop more ourselves?”[break][break]
