It wasn't long before they'd stumbled into their first cave resident. Libra was silent as she approached the Trapinch, blades flashing in the light of Skyler's flashlight - just before the woman called the pokémon to stop its advance. "Don't just attack everything in sight, Libra! Geez..." 

Before she could do anything else, the Trapinch had burrowed out of sight, leaving the pokémon/human duo alone once again. "Next time give me a warning, yeah?" Sighing, the sailor started climbing down a steep slope, gritting her teeth when the Kabutops overcame the obstacle easily and waited for her at the bottom. "Show off."

The sailor slid the last few meters of the slope, hitting the bottom at a run and stumbling slightly before she managed to finally stop. She could easily imagine the amused scorn sent her way by her Kabutops, although the pokémon wasn't exactly capable of any expression given her exoskeleton.

Skyler was starting to feel the chill in the air as they went deeper into the cave, trying to bite at her skin. Thankfully, she'd thought ahead and took a ridiculously oversized sweater out of her backpack. 

They stopped at a crossroads, two paths lying ahead of them. Skyler thought she could hear the sound of rushing water coming from somewhere, but she couldn't really tell the exact direction. "Where do you think w- Libra?!"

The Kabutops had disappeared from her vision in the blink of an eye. When Skyler looked around, she saw the Kabutops exiting one of the paths, a cute white pokémon on top of her head. She wasn't attacking it, and it seemed pretty comfortable in its perch. "I guess... We can keep it." With a small movement of her hands, Skyler had captured the Snom. "C'mon, I want to check out the water."

It turned out to be a small waterfall. Down here the temperature had dropped significantly, the air turning bitterly cold against the exposed skin of her face and hands. Libra seemed to be doing fine, too busy scouting the path ahead for any dangers and/or wild pokémon.

Skyler blew some hot air into her freezing hands, approaching the small lake that had formed at the base of the waterfall, chunks of ice floating in the water and being swiftly carried downstream. One of them, she couldn't help but notice, seemed to be looking at her.

Huh. Probably just her imagination.

There had to be a way to somehow get to the other side of that small body of water.

There were no other entries or exits on this side of the wide cavern; it might be possible for Skyler to climb up the rock wall that supported the waterfall, but that still didn't give her access to the other side. A bridge would come in handy now. Or a boat.

Libra didn't seem too bothered by the water, sinking the tips of her claws into the frigid depths with ease. She seemed more focused on the small bits of ice that were floating down the stream and disappearing somewhere ahead. Her sudden hiss had Skyler shifting her attention from studying the rock wall for handholds to the lake - and a sudden pre-historic pokémon that floated along with the chunks of ice.

It disappeared down the current after a couple of seconds. Skyler hoped it was okay.

"Okay Libra, time to start climbing." Maybe they'd find a way to cross to the other half of the chamber up there.

She had just started her climbing, finding her first footholds in the rock face, when something small and white fell past her and onto the ground below. Blinking, Skyler craned her head so she could see what had just swooshed past her with a tiny cry of - happiness? She looked in time to see the white thing bounce off of the ground and nearly hit Libra on the head before its momentum carried it to the edge of the lake. It must've been a pokémon, but Skyler had never seen one quite like it.

Libra was simply ignoring it, finally taking notice of her trainer and her precarious climbing skills. The Kabutops turned her back on the small pokémon, making her way to where Skyler was with annoying ease, making the human feel like a bumbling idiot.

That wasn't that far from the truth.

Eventually, both human and and pokémon managed to crest over the top, Skyler breathing heavily from the effort. The water still divided the chamber in two in here, but - there were some stepping stones ahead.

The stones themselves were extremely slippery and several times Skyler wondered if it wouldn't have been simpler to just waddle to the other side. Sure, she'd get her pants and her boots wet and she'd be miserable, but at least she wouldn't risk a concussion and a hit to her dignity.

Libra, of course, watched on serenely already on the other side of the coursing water, looking - if anything - bored. In the meanwhile, the human was doing her best not to fall tea over kettle while jumping from stone to stone. The ice click surfaces weren't helping, but so far so good. Or at least it had been, up until a pink something jumped out of the water straight into her arms.

"W-what the f-" Words failed heras the most adorable creature she'd ever laid eyes upon blinked up at her, cooing in an uncertain voice. "Oh... Hello." They stood like that for a minute, Skyler not really knowing what to do until she suddenly got hit in the face by a lashing tail. "Shit!"

Feeling her balance bid adieu to her, Skyler flailed as she tried to grasp at anything, the Wooper kicking off of her and getting to the other side of the water just in time to find an irate Kabutops.

When Skyler finally joined her Pokémon, wet and miserable, she found an unconscious Wooper by the river's side. Grabbing a Pokéball, she captured the small water type. "I like her," she told Libra, who let out something suspiciously close to a scoff before resuming their exploration.
