The weather in Sootopolis was almost always sunny and fair. Despite it being early January, today was no exception. Remiel had come wearing his white shorts with white polo, disembarking from the plane he'd rode in on to navigate the white stone-cobbled streets of the historic city. He was here on a brief weekend vacation, sure. But he had also taken an assignment for the League.[break][break]

Approaching the flock of Rookidee that had chosen to take the power lines above the pokemon center as their home, Remiel placed a hand on each hip and sighed at the sight of them. Rather noisy and abrasive lot, they were. He'd dealt with plenty of Rookidee gangs back in Hammerlocke. And he doubted the pink Sinistea that hovered above his shoulder could do much against them alone.[break][break]

Thankfully, they aren't alone.[break]

Of course the first person they called to address the problem when Flying-types were involved was the Fortree gym leader.

Hilariously they didn’t even tell Alexei that the problem wasn’t on the mainland, but out—way out—in the Crater City.

“Seriously?” he grumbled as he exited the Pokémon Center, looking up from his PokéGear to see that he wasn’t alone—there was a definitely familiar face there with him.

“Thank hell I was in the area,” he added with a sigh before he overheard the raucous, derisive cawing coming from somewhere up above him. “Oy,” he groaned a few moments later.

“Since they’re not from around here—I presume you know how to deal with them?”

Thankfully they needed no introduction.

"Tell me why every time we meet there's always something feathery involved." Remiel lightly jokes, turning his cobalt-colored eyes back up towards the menacing flock of Rookidee. "I am glad to see you, though. This will be the second flock of abusive birds we fend off, hm?"[break][break]

He was, of course, referring to the murder of Murkrow they had shooed away from the ranger station a few weeks ago. Thoughts drifted to the Castform they had escorted there. He wondered how they were doing, now that they were, more or less, under Rocket supervision as well.[break][break]

Reaching to his belt for a luxury ball, the royal sighs. "How do you suppose we proceed, gym leader? Righteous bolts of lightning?"[break]

“Must be a thing,” he chuckled in return.

“Yeah, second—and hopefully the last. Those Murkrow gave me a righteous headache afterward. Too much screeching. Now them, too?” he gestured upward at the nest. The Rookidee were getting louder and louder with each passing moment, as if summoning more of their number.

“What, and short out the entire city’s power supply?” he joked back. “Too risky,” he mused, shuffling through his pockets and pondering on who to use. Carina was out of the question even if she was going to be effective, because they would go after a Bug-type regardless.

He had the answer a few moments later as a burst of red light revealed his blue-plumed Braviary.

“Kyouya. Get up there and scare ‘em first,” he said, giving the avian a pat on the underside before an equally-derisive caw came from his companion.

The ambassador almost preferred that they were dealing with Murkrow, to be honest. At least they had some semblance of rules. "Rookidee live only for the thrill of the fight," He warns, narrowing his eyes on the little creatures menacingly. He pauses, however, then looks back at the blonde with a small hint of a smile. "But I am sure you are aware."[break][break]

Tossing his ball, Earl Grey makes way as a black Arctozolt appears on the scene. Its body, like its nose, seems to be in a constant shiver. But, as proven before, it didn't allow such an affliction to get in the way of its duties. Despite how dopey and incapable it looked.[break][break]

"Yes, that is precisely what we've come here to avoid," Remiel nods. "With no gym leader to protect it at current, it appears Sootopolis' tasks fall upon us this day." Just as the Braviary shoots off to scare them, however, the Arctozolt stands to attention as the Rookidee take flight in unison, attempting to evade the larger predator.[break][break]

"Boris, cut them off with Powder Snow." He orders, watching as the birds are pelted by a gust of powdery snow and forced to hurry away before their wings were too frozen for flight.[break]

“I have a Rookidee myself, and she’s a handful and a half. Always wanting to scrap with the bigger avians and not-so-avians I own,” he laughed. Boy, that Rookidee of his was definitely more than a handful and a half at this point. Cue rebellious teenager phase, maybe?

The sight of the much-larger avian sent the flock of Rookidee panicking, however they were caught in a sudden pelt of cold wind—coming from the strange Pokémon the other man had sent out. Alexei couldn’t find any other words for it, other than the fact that it looked—really strange!

I swear, it’s head looks even smaller than its body! he thought as he stifled a bit of a snicker—although the Ice-type attack was effective in sending them away—somewhat.

“Don’t get tangled up there,” he called out, watching as the Braviary spread his wings wider and shot forward in an Aerial Ace attempt.

It was kind of like playing bowling, only the Braviary was the (aerial) bowling ball, and the Rookidee were the pins that were supposed to scatter as the larger Flying-type came in up close and personal to menace the fuck out of them.

"You should see the gangs of Rookidee in Hammerlocke," Remiel remarks, watching as the flock of them ahead turns into a massive black cloud of feathers and rampant chirping. "Positively savage, they are."[break][break]

Though they had been fended off by the gust of snow for a few moments, the gang in front of them seemed to be gathering to come back with a vengeance next. Both trainer and pokemon failed to take notice of Alexei's gawking as this flock closed in. The former hastened to catch Alexei's attention with a short whistle. "We might want to find cover," He warns, stepping backward towards the edge of one of the white stone buildings common in Sootopolis. "They're coming right at us."[break][break]

And, sure enough, those that weren't being played around with by the Braviary came swooping in, engulfing the Arctozolt in a flurry of feathers as it shrieked out at them and unleashed a powerful DISCHARGE that sent a good many twitching on the floor.[break]

“Compared to them, the Taillow and Wingull around here are perfectly tame,” he mused. The cloud of feathers grew darker and thicker—uh oh, they were calling more and more of their friends, and this was going to turn nasty pretty soon.

The flock—murder? He wasn’t sure what a group of Rookidee were called—came bristling in, before he was taken off to one side.

“Oh, yikes, I see what you mean there,” he hissed, watching as the strange Pokémon Remiel had sent out let loose with a flare of electricity.

“Careful!” he called to the Braviary, who saw the incoming Electric-type attack and made to swerve out of the way. While most of them had been dealt with, there were still a few stragglers here and there—oh no. Oh, dear.

Oh, shit.

“Don’t let them bully you around just because there’s a lot of them!” he added, watching as the Braviary charged in head-on to deal with the stragglers, grabbing a couple of them and going in for the Sky Drop.

“…whoops,” Alexei muttered, chuckling as the blue-plumed avian shot off into the sky before proceeding to come down, pretty hard, with the two Rookidee in its talons. Kind of like how a meteor would crash down to earth.

Boris hadn't even intended to discharge its electricity. The entire response had been involuntary, prompted out of sudden agitation and fear. Regardless, the Rookidee dropped all around the abomination like flies afterward.[break][break]

The few that remain standing around him, and stubborn until the end, try in vain to strike him with their tiny claws and beaks. The Arctozolt's body mass is far too thick for them to notice, however. And the Rookidee are far too weakened now to break past that defense. They only serve to exhaust themselves before collapsing on the stone-paved ground with their brethren.[break][break]

Meanwhile, the ambassador looks up as the blue Braviary descends with a pair of the small birds in its talons. Its act is carried out brutally and without remorse. Exactly the kind of thing Remiel commends in a pokemon. Unperturbed by it, he returns Boris to his ball and nods. "Looks like we're done here, then, hm? Perhaps we should go inside the Pokemon Center and tell them the good news."[break]

“Hopefully they know their place—those Murkrow we handled before haven’t returned since the last time we cleared them out,” he agreed with a nod once his Braviary returned to where they were waiting.

Giving the blue-plumed avian a pat on the head, he then recalled the Flying-type in order to let it rest.

“…but I have a feeling we might meet those Rookidee again. Considering how they behaved toward us, well, they’re going to terrorize another area…” he mused as he followed the other man back into the Pokémon Center to affirm the news that they were going to be dropping with the staff.
