Keeping his ears to the ground was the best way to keep his head low and to hear threats before threats heard him.

Tonight specifically, that ear was being used to track the moments of some wild ones that might have been afforded a better life for themselves if they came along to join his team.

With the handfuls of pokemon he had in mind, this place was a good as most any to begin his search.

So he waded through the tall grass, keen to see what he would find.

Selena is particularly fond of the long walk from Fortree to Lilycove City. Among all things that are extraordinary, it is one of the joys of her busy life as it is the most mundane and simple.

But not everytime she does this will she stumble upon something in the grass: not a wild pokemon but an acquantaince of hers.

“Ranger Sénon Game.”

She beams him a smile, the light of her delphox's torch staff outlining the features of her face for the man to see.

Calling Jūken into the wild to stand beside him as the grasses gained height, the ranger heard a voice reach out to him as a little torch bearer approached, a familiar face in tow.

"Selena Desmarais. . ." His initial seeing her at Lilycove didn't count, they hadn't properly acquainted themselves yet. But since the temple fire she had become two for two in making him smile.

She was competent, kind and full-figured; all things to be appreciated in that order.

"Well don't you look bewitching by firelight." Picking a pokéball off his hip when he saw the two brown wild ones in view he paused, offering her the first catch.

"Gym Leader's first." He moved to the side with a cheeky grin giving all the respect she had earned from him.

She cannot help but tease Sénon Game after giving her a complement. Perhaps, because she is very used to complements about her features that it has become very usual for her to challenge everyone else's opinion.

“What, am I only bewitching when there's just enough light?”

She checks to see the brown ones gathering beneath the tall grasses and then shakes her head.

“Alright, I can join you catching some pokemons. But these two doesn't interest me sadly.”

He grinned at her comeback, having one of his own ready. "You know, I can't say. There's always something on fire when you're around." Playfully he crossed his arm ready to see her battle skills up close but when she passed on the two before them, he made his move.

He'd wanted a Hoothoot since he learned of Johto as a boy.

Jūken didn't have type advantages over a Normal/Flying type but he was far more experienced than most wild ones and more scrappy than any hoothoot. "Go. Lead with FORCE PALM, follow up with 'Counter Cat'."

One of his favorite tactics to employ with the Riolu 'Counter Cat' was the tactical use of COUNTER to return damage from physical attacks or COPY CAT for every other kind of attack, and Jūken excelled at its application.

Jūken used FORCE PALM!
Hoothoot used MOONBLAST; its Super Effective!
Jūken used COPY CAT! Juken used MOONBLAST!

The hoothoot was knocked out in two strikes and captured with a third from a Premiere Ball.

While they bantered two more pokémon were noticed in the vacinity. A Liepard seemingly on a night hunt, and a Staravia seemingly doing the same thing. Curious about her tastes in pokémon and her battle skills, without a strong desire for either pokémon he gave Selena the first pick.

The Staravia being the one he would claim if she didn't, there was a Shiny Purrloin he had that could use the company of a Liepard. No matter her choice it was a win-win for him. "Watch and Learn, Ranger Game. Watch and Learn."

Selena laughs at the remark, the accuracy of which is something difficult to deny.

“My hotness must be exuding all around me, then.”

Senon backs down once more, allowing Selena to wander amidst the immediate targets. Neither is interesting for the gym leader although she can't help but comment on one of the creatures that spawned in the vicinity.

“You know, people used called me the 'Eye of Staraptor.'”

She earned the name for "hunting" stories that other journalists seems to be too scared to report. In a profession largely dominated by men, her colleagues see this as a slander, but Selena takes the title as an admission of her competence.

“Since then I've been intrigued by their style, but I'm afraid my other staraptor will be jealous if I decide to keep this other one too.”

The two of them bantered well and it made for a tenseness atmosphere. They more they talked the more it felt like they'd known each other for longer than they had. "That's not a bad title." Hear she had it he wondered how she got such a name and who gave it to her. "Sounds like a title you give someone you fear."

Riled up and ready for a rumble Jūken had been damaged by the Moonblast. It had been so long since a real opponent got a good hit on him that he was properly motivated to keep fighting.

With a pointed nod from his master the Riolu took the fight to the bird rather than the feline. With a much higher speed the Staravia saw the little warrior coming and made its move on the Emanation Pokémon first; crashing into him with a TAKE DOWN. "Jū; COUNTER!"

Finding its footing before the Starvaia could tilt away the riolu smashed back into its winged attacker with a TAKE DOWN of his own.

Staravia used TAKE DOWN!
Jūken used COUNTER; dealing double damage!

Knocked out and falling to its defeat the proud Staravia would be taken in by a Premiere Ball before it could hit the ground.

Crimsen attempted to capture Staravia!

The moment he saw the Oranguru he turned to face it.

Only, to notice Selena doing the same. He rolled his eyes with a grin watching her move on the psychic type.

He'd twice offered her first pick only for her to pass on capturing anything and the one he moved to claim without giving her first pick, was the one she actually wanted.

Moving clear of her space he sat on a nearby tree stump to finally watch her capturing a pokémon in the wild.

Sénon himself not in the least bit interested in the Chatot. That landed on a nearby tree and quickly fluttered off.

"You don't have to impress me or anything..." He put a little teasing spice in his voice. Jūken leaned against his trainer's leg like a teen leaning against a wall "-but I am watching."

The pinkette cannot help but chuckle with Sénon Game's reaction when they both look at the oranguru with the same expression in their faces.

“You see, I have it big with psychic-types. As of the moment.”

Delphox leaps from her position, now facing the wild pokemon. The vixen retrieves the staff from her hide, and wields it like a baton rolling on its palms.

“You're right, I don't have to impress you. But I'm sure you would be.”

Circe pounces for her target, the stick revolving as it summons a sturdy LIGHT SCREEN to hit the creature. Once they are connected, the pokemon struggles against as her, gripping at her wand and attempting to use its stored power. But it is already too late: the delphox already sends out a paralyzing SHOCK WAVE that immobilizes the beast.

By then, she throws one available capsule, hoping for a successful capture.
