calvin is kind — or, well, at least he once was. he was born in azalea town; raised by a loving mother and always taught to help others around him. and though his only parent grew terribly sick and was eventually forced to move to a bigger town with less lenient guardians, calvin still kept his hopes up. if anything, he had more of a reason to fight and power on. take his ambitions as far as they can for the angel who was now watching him in the sky, not let any adversary tear the grin from his face. he was a smiling child, loud, but still with a good heart, and made a few close friends in the big city. it was a story just like any other: children wanting to become the next champion, and a rival that was going to make sure he was the one who was going to end up winning. that was cal. a never-ending fire alongside his totodile who was just as eager. and it was going well — for all of them. memories were being placed in his head that he would soon never forget.

the problem was, the other parts of his family weren't as innocent. they belonged to the old association of the rockets, and they were not aware or fond of all the do-gooder children (with parents who worked close with the law) he was getting close with throughout his little journey. so, there wasn't much thought as to what came next. move the child away and rip his dreams out before they'd bud into anything else. if they were going to raise someone else's son, they didn't need a hero slowly forming inside their very house. so, calvin would stop his journey immediately and retreat. once again, close bonds would be torn apart for no real reason. but not this time, no. not if calvin had anything to say about it. and, in a flash, calvin oda was a name that no longer existed in johto.

it wasn't difficult to keep himself from getting caught because honestly? no one really looked for him when he "left". his aunt and uncle scoffed at his dramatic absence, while his friends' parents simply nodded about their suspicions about the family of criminals - including calvin. his optimism slowly peeled away the more reality met his gaze, and it wasn't until he grew completely cold after experiencing a group of people attempt to steal and harm his partner pokémon while trying to survive on his own - which is still apparent by the scar located on the (now) croconaw's right eye. gyms, friends, being a hero, none of that really mattered anymore. if this was his only path, he might as well walk along it without hesitation. calvin oda was a fool; cal was not.

perhaps he should've left that name the minute he no longer lived in azalea.

currently, cal, ironically enough, is a new recruit to the new organisation of team rocket. he leans on the line to negativity with most of them as people, but as a group he's much more on their side than the league. during his time in hoenn, he spends it having his name somewhat known - mostly as the hooligan who gets into fights and picks up a lot of hands-on work. he has about two or three people that follow him as comrades, all eventually handing themselves also as grunts to team rocket. they help cause a ruckus as a distraction so the rockets don't have to, though cal is certainly not the one to turn down lending his arm when it involves his strength.

[attr="class","monstertext"]cal isn't... unapproachable? just loud. loud and obnoxious. he's easy to anger, but even easier to entertain. obviously he needs other team rocket members to know since he's newer and very aware that his brawns outweigh his brains. he's a very "i'll leave that up to you" with that being the talking/logic, while he does everything else with fists. i'd say hedonism also comes naturally to him. if you're close to him, he'll most definitely try to persuade you outside whatever task you both need to do for something fun, and, if you're rather the person to be the one to persuade him of the same, he's too reckless and impulsive to say no. but, social as cal is, he doesn't give much else about himself personally. hell, he won't even give out his full name to anyone that asks. so it'll be a bit harder to find a true friend in him without super prying as he doesn't enjoy remembering the route he should've could've been on.

also, despite it being somewhat secretly, cal can often be found visiting daycares or caring to wounded pokémon when it is needed. many things are not off the table with him in morals, but children of any kind? he doesn't take kindly to others who choose to hurt them. this isn't common knowledge to anyone, though, feel free to be one of the people who spots him doing so. he's quieter when being found like this, considering this is where most of his repressed personality stems. he's also distant with gym leaders and trainers who are currently doing the challenge but in a way where he's both bitter and curious about it in unison. while he'll laugh at someone taking it seriously, it's pretty evident that this isn't how he truly feels. but, yes. cal is kind of an ass but more of an annoying ass than anything.

[attr="class","monstertext"] he's easily provoked. "fight me" is enough for him to chase you all the way to the ends of hoenn. it's not that he has a fragile ego, but rather, he's just super impulsive. cal is known to be a "street thug" for a reason. he likes to approach strong people, isn't afraid to speak up when something frustrates him, and can be unnecessarily in someone's space, no matter who that person is in question. he'll probably get really upset at people who trick him with scams, as, he tends to fall for those easily - and constantly as well. he's not really... a serious criminal, however, vandalism for fun? check. exploding things just to explode them in the dead of night? check. forgetting money for food and jumping ship when he realises it? check. again, cal is the type of person who tends to chase whatever fire he thinks is the hottest. he's impatient and the last one to stick around the same place for too long. i'm positive that causes a huge trail of flames behind him that others will hate to clean.

also, cal is the perfect candidate you need to hire to shake someone up for debts, etc. the target in question would probably dislike cal after that, clearly. or, even the person asking dare they ask for bargains that cal didn't agree to. other than that? there are probably a lot more ways to get on cal's bad side. he doesn't like pompous people/others who take things for granted, others stronger than him (though, he does love a challenge), and, as expected, people who belong to the league by default. veterans of the rockets don't often see his friendly side either for obvious reasons.  

[attr="class","monstertext"] everything about this category is complicated for him. he isn't a gentleman, first and foremost. he has an ex actively searching for him that he never got closure from and love isn't anywhere on his to-do list. so he's most likely had some interesting dynamics with people, that's for sure. cal is cocky just to be cocky and his easy-to-be-tricked weakness doesn't stop just with scams. so, if you want to try to match up with cal go ahead - however, don't expect anything even remotely serious. because it's almost always for the rush more than anything else and he's not really...the best at remembering names!
