What has happened to Oscar? There was a point in time when he was as heartless and cutthroat as an alpha Hydreigon. Hoenn's changed him quite a bit, most notably he's learned that there are benefits liking people. No one exemplified that more than Billi Marsh, a man that has gone from nuisance to dear friend in the eyes of Oscar. Billi more than an anyone has taught Oscar the hidden depths of humanity, which is probably why he agreed to visit the loveable oaf at his new gym in Petalburg City.

It was more than just a ho hum visit though. The two were to go to dinner, and after they would take in the sights and sounds of a festival being held near Petalburg Woods. On the journey over, Oscar found himself looking forward to the night's activities. It shall be nice to put aside his busy schedule and just have fun with a friend for once. Although, how much of a friend was Billi now? Oscar has been getting very close to him, and every time they'd lock eyes Oscar had to admit that he felt a certain fuzziness in his gut. A feeling of comfort he hasn't felt in a long time.

Oscar realized the path his mind was walking, and banished those thoughts from his mind. Billi was just a friend, Oscar had no time for anything else. Yet every time he told himself that, it felt less and less true. Billi just seemed--right. At least at the moment he did, who knows what kind of stress was influencing Oscar's brain.

He was still conflicted as he reached the gym proper. Examining the interior, he could instantly tell who was in charge here. The place had Billi written all over. He sheepishly approached the front desk, knocking on the window to get the secretary's attention. "Hey, my name's Oscar Clayton. I'm supposed to meet Billi here, is he around?"

The day had come, and it was time for festivals here in petalburg! While Lilycove had done there maybe a week previous, Petalburg was just getting their celebrations together, and were not only honoring in the new year of the OX but also it’s new Gym Leader, that would hopefully stick. Naturally his gym didn’t look like one as he requested to have the largest abandoned overgrown building into the city, and they seemed to accommodate. More so than ever.[break][break]

Offering a hand in construction, Billi shot them down, wanting to allow his pokemon to do the work, and work they did. Soon a dead warehouse was made to bustle with life from everywhere. Like a wonderful Terrarium. Heck they offered to fully staff his gym with trainers and everything to “weed out” the weak, but he denied it. Gyms shouldn’t be about who was stronger physically, but who represent what the gym was, and would carry the badge with respect and honor.[break][break]

Strangely enough it attracted common folk, and many people left with the badge. Like a housewife from the other day, who felt she had gone stagnant, and knew she could never battle because her drifloon wasn’t made for it! Well! She got her badge and she nearly cried because she could use her day to day skills with the help of her pokemon to create something to be proud of![break][break]

Billi felt the joy from it, deep down that no one could ever understand. Sure he was criticized in all the trainer magazines for it, but at the same time, he began trending as one of the most approachable gym leaders, and most fair. Though...Billi had yet to find any real friends in Petalburg, so when Oscar said he was coming to go out to dinner with him, at the festival, and he closed the gym for it![break][break]

Even if it was vibrantly decorated, and he set up the gym as more of a fundraiser business for the evening, it was opened as a petting zoo for children and trainers. Even sold some of his clothing that he made, in generic sizes that matched the festival. Granted he allowed his pokemon to run the business, because they were, and he meant the Leavany, were amazing with people.[break][break]

Amazing enough to fool Oscar, as Tailor turned around and laughed. “Leeeeavvvv” she boxed to the man before walking herself to the door, unlocking it so Oscar could enter. Inside, Billi was still getting ready. The cool, slightly damp air signified the freshness of a shower.[break][break]

Around the corner, where Billi stood in his washroom, the blow dryer going on a low heat, himself in nothing but a rather short pastel pink towel around his waist as he sung himself. “i’ve been trying to call. I’ve been on my own for long enough, maybe you can show me how to love, maybe. I’m going through withdrawals, you don’t have to do too much, you can turn me on with just a touch,” his hips sway as his voice harmonizes with himself. Billi doens’t stop until he realizes Oscar is there, and he’s pinning his hair up in a ponytail, “Oscar?” he blinked turning a bit red, “Oh shoot sorry!”

Oscar recoiled when the Leavany revealed itself, how had he not noticed it before? He wasn't all that surprised though, it was pretty on brand for Billi to have his gym managed by his pokemon. Although, this Leavany looked familiar. Oscar smiled politely as it greeted him, but tried not to make too much eye contact as he entered Billi's chambers.

Oscar recognized the freshness in the air, shivering slightly as the dampness in the air clung to his skin. Oscar couldn't stand humidity as it is, but in a peacoat and winter ware it was down right unbearable. He turned to go wait for Billi outside, but the Leavany stood in the doorway, eyeing him oddly. It was as if it were expecting something from Oscar, but he could not fathom what.

Instead of dealing with--that--Oscar decided to just find Billi. He could hear his voice further in, surely he was ready by now. Oscar followed the sound of Billi's absent minded singing around the corner and--"Oh shit!" Oscar probably should have seen this coming, after all if one is singing to themselves nine times out of ten they're getting ready. Oscar blocked his vision, his own pale skin turning dark red as the barely dressed Billi responded to his appearance. "No I-I'm sorry. Fuck um--I'll just uh, wait over here. Sorry-so sorry, yeah."

Oscar bashfully moved out of view from the washroom, sighing as he tried to process his social faux-pas. This outing was off to a greeeat start. Oscar rubbed his temples as the tint of his skin slowly recovered. He looked toward the door, locking eyes once again with the Leavany. The bug seemed almost pleased with itself. Oscar scowled, "Not a word from you." He gingerly moved passed the Leavany to wait for Billi in the lobby, as he should have done to begin with.

Before Billi could say anything Oscar had already hid himself, and probably saw...well too much skin of Billi’s. Not that he was ashamed of his body, though it was a tad bit embarrassing, but he was at least covering the important bits, even if it was a skimpy little towel. With his red face, he continued to dry himself, and freshen up, and luckily...he didn’t feel the need to feel exposed, after all Oscar wouldn’t make fun of him or anything.[brea][break]

Leavany gave a snicker as the human commented, “llllleeee” of course that was her way of calling him a pervert. Though Billi dried himself off and pulled his hair back, putting on his underwear and pants, though they seemed more like long johns. Then he threw the winter Kimono that was laced with Volcarona scales tying it off.[break][break]

“Oh? Sorry!” he grinned his face red as he walked out, though he hid most of his body now, but his hair was up now. “do you like it?” Billi asked with bright eyes. The Red and gold, new year styled kimono, “Where are we going?” he asked with a cute smile.

Oscar didn't have to wait long, or at least it didn't feel like long as he paced nervously. He was scared Billi would be mad, which would be a poor start to their da-OUTING. Outing. Yet in the midst of Oscar's worry, Billi would appear looking as happy as ever. Oscar let out a sigh of relief as his opinion was asked, "You look phenomenal. Are those volcarona scales? How did you gather those safely?"

Oscar felt a bit lackluster compared to Billi, his suit was nice but it paled next to this wearable artwork. He should really invest in a kimono one of these days. He lead Billi out of the gym before responding to his question, Oscar could feel the Leavany's judgmental gaze burning into him. Why did that thing hate him so much? Maybe it was just being protective of its master.

Oscar pulled out his phone once they were outside, bringing up a reservation confirmation. "We're eating at this new Vegan restaurant in town, Odd-ish Eatery. Then I figured we could check out the lantern festival happening downtown. I h-hope that sounds alright."

Oscar was clearly becoming a bit nervous, after saying all that this was certainly sounding like a da-da-daaaay to remember. He didn't want to fuck it up, especially with someone as fun as Billi. Oscar straightened up, regaining some composure as he pointed outward with his hand, "Shall we?"

It was so flattering when Oscar mentioned his outfit looked nice. Even though he was kinda fishing for a compliment, it still felt reaffirming considering the one person who’s opinion mattered to him the most thought he looked amazing. So that was nice, and it showed on his bright face, with soft redness to his face. “Yeah I just use the ones my volcarona sheds,” he was even more impressed that Oscar could recognize what the materials were.[break][break]

Oscar himself appeared very put together, very ready for a night out on a nice outting. Billi would even say it was date attire, which to be honest was much more fancy than what Oscar wore normally every time they met. Thou Billi loved how Oscar normally looked, because it was effortless, and he could wear anything which was also enviable. “did you want me to make you one too?” Billi asked stepping forward as the man held out his hand forward, though Billi being the himbo he was holding his hand with a smile.[break][break]

The large hand quickly tangled around the lanky fingers, giving a comforting squeeze. “oh? I haven’t been there yet! I’m still learning all about the city,” he grinned, “Oh you don’t eat meat?” he asked as they walked and it was clear Billi was excited. Naturally Billi’s pokemon kinda roamed the city if they felt they needed resources like trash to make into a nest. But the cutifly of Billi’s followed tastefully behind watching. “I’m excited for it! It’s my first festival! Back home we don’t have such pretty festivals.” [break][break]

Billi tugged the smaller man closer so they could be warm in the cool air. “you planned all this right?” Billi asked and the hand closer, “thank you!” he smiled gratefully, “I’ve been….excited for it!”

When Billi grabbed his hand, Oscar's first instinct was to violently pull away. But he didn't. As soon as their fingers locked, something just sorta clicked. A bizarre comfort that Oscar always knew he needed, but was too afraid to seek out. His expression grew soft, a small smile appearing as he answered Billi's question with a surprising gentleness. "Sure, that sounds rather lovely."

Oscar's heart beat at around sixty miles per hour, its quick and gentle thumping being heard like a drumbeat in Oscar's head. He was clearly nervous, this experience had just taken a turn that was welcome but unexpected. Nevertheless he kept up with Billi's inquiries, "No no I eat meat all the time. I just remember you were giving meat a break so I thought hey, this new vegan place sounds perfect."

Billi brought Oscar closer, causing Oscar's smile to waver. It wasn't bad, deep down he knew he wanted this, but the figurative electricity of this sudden intimacy caused Oscar's heartrate to sky rocket. He was struggling to maintain control, to not push this away. He wanted this. Finally he spoke, "You know, I've been looking forward to this for a long time."

The two soon came upon the restaurant, a trendy little place nestled between a candle store and a psychic rock shop. Oscar smiled, reluctantly detaching from Billi as he went for the door. He opened it, a little bell chiming to herald their entrance. "After you sir."

Oscar didn’t seem to be weary of Billi advances, not that he was making any bold ones! It wasn’t like they were doing anything nasty or secretive. He was truly just wanting to hold Oscar's hand, and it was even better that he cared enough to think of a place he could eat, even though he would have just got over it and ordered it without. But Oscar thought of it so he didn’t have to, and he resisted squeezing the man in a hug.[break][break]

Oscar opened the door for him, and Billi paused, looking at the man with a bright smile as he passed him. “Thank you,” the blonde nodded, but his pinky snagged Oscar’s spare hand as he passed pulling him along with him. don’t stay behind,” Billi playfully winked as he softly pulled him closer to his body, walking up to the counter, “we have reservations,” He commented brightly, “rigght Oscar?” Billi asked keeping the man close to him as possible. It was clear he was really excited.

Oscar blinked as he was pulled in again. It felt so natural, like putting on your favorite coat on the first day of winter. He smiled lightly, confirming what Billi had said, "Right, should be under Clayton." The host looked over a computer for a moment before nodding. She pulled a few menus out out from under the counter and lead them to their table.

Their table was positioned near a window, looking out onto the streets of Petalburg. The sun was beginning to set, and one by one storefronts were turning on their evening lights. Oscar took his seat, staring first out the window and then into Billi's eyes. The blue of his irises were mesmerizing. He felt himself talk, yet he didn't know what he was saying. It came so effortlessly, like floating in still water. He felt so--light. Perhaps even happy.

Oscar blinked, suddenly finding himself outside. It was night now, with the streets illuminated by paper lanterns. When had they gotten to the festival? Was Oscar so entranced that he had lost the experience? No not lost, the experience was there. He felt its warmth as he nestled himself closer to Billi. It just went by too fast.

Fireworks began to explode overhead, drenching their surroundings with color. Oscar looked to them wistfully, his heart beating fast and faster as he felt himself longing for this moment to last forever. He looked to Billi, whose face shined amongst the dark color of the sky. Oscar spoke in a quivering tone, his nerves starting to get the best of him.

"I um--thank you. This night was easier than I thought it would be. I feel--good. For once."
