Hi Alexei Ivanov , thank you for helping with this field test for the upcoming opening of the Lavaridge gym.
Your (unofficial) gym challenge in the MOUNTAIN biome has been accepted! I've reviewed your Pokemon's moveset and ability.

Remember all Pokemon can use the Dodge action to negate damage, regardless of their moveset. Suggested tags have been included, but feel free to deviate as appropriate.

Zac reached the top and cracked open a cool Charge-a-Cola. "Ah yeah. That's the stuff." He sent out Sneasel and Mamoswine, who investigated the cold, ice-less ridge with apprehension. Mamoswine let out a basso rumble, and the sky began to cloud over. In moments, a light flurry had settled in. "Well that's only fair, I guess. Gives you guys a little to work with," Zac conceded. "And much cheaper than those snow machines." Which of you is up first then? He asked. Sneasel perked up. His claws slid free at the prospect of a fight. "Oh yeah? Well you're up then champ! Just gotta wait for Alexei to get here."

When he received the message, he couldn’t help but laugh at the contents for a few moments.

He… does have a point, I blame the flaming-red hair! he thought with a chuckle. Of course, in true Fortree fashion he wasn’t going to climb up the mountain—he was going to arrive and score a touchdown on where they were going to meet.

Thankfully, the green flags were visible from his current position, and urging the Braviary down, the other man would see a small airborne speck, slowly growing larger until a blue-plumed Braviary flew down close enough before coming to a hovering stop, close enough for Alexei to jump off the ground and land safely.

Once he’d landed, he chuckled—maintaining a cold climate outdoors was rough enough considering the proximity of their location but well, it was another test run.

“Oh, we’re starting already?” he blinked, quickly recalling the Braviary to rest and sending out his Lucario, scoring a three-point landing from the flash of red light.

“Vince, careful. That’s a Sneasel. You know how Luna kept beating your ass when you were younger,” he chuckled, before the Lucario let out a grumpy noise.

Turning to face the little ~~shit~~ Sneasel, he knew this one was just as wily as the Weavile he considered an equal and a rival was.

To start things off, he concentrated calmly—while he didn’t know Nasty Plot anymore, knowing Swords Dance was very useful.

After that? It was time to go to town…

“Don’t be such a tease, okay?!” he called out as the Lucario burst forward in a sudden show of speed, attempting to close the distance and strike a hit on the Sneasel with an Extreme Speed attack!

MUSIC

Lucario shot forward, darting right past Sneasel's defenses and slamming into the unprepared pokemon. Well, that was a stretch. He had been ready for battle. Just not for his opponent's speed. Sneasel flipped back and scampered up the cliff face before Lucario could land another hit. His claws extended, and he latched onto the near vertical stone in what he assumed was a safe spot. Sneasel hissed down at Lucario, fangs bared in a fragile display of dominance.

He's not ready. Zac realized, his smile growing brittle. He couldn't let Sneasel see his faith drop. There was a definite wild flare to the creature's movement and reaction. It was freshly caught, untrained, and it showed.

Up on the cliff side, Sneasel's hiss caught traction in the chill air, sending a blast of ICY WIND howling at Lucario. As the flurry howled around him, the little Pokemon's eyes focused down into pinpricks, and he shuddered with energy. His form blurred into the wind as he prepared for his enemy's next strike.

Oh, wow.

Vincent was not prepared for the incoming blast of wind, it made him shiver as he was caught up in its aftereffects. “Tank it!” he called from his lower position, watching anxiously as the Lucario was forced back several feet due to the force of the weather-based attack.

Shaking off the coldness, the Lucario looked around for a few moments, keeping an eye on the Sneasel just in case it decided to do something brash. Calming himself, he took another breath, preparing a second Swords Dance and centering his thoughts.

Well, if he couldn’t succeed in hitting the Sneasel by coming up-close and personal, guess it was time to go long-ranged!

An orb of faintly pulsing light slowly shimmered into existence, before the beginning of an Aura Sphere attack coalesced into existence in the Lucario’s hold—and then sending it flying.

Lucario may have been faster than Sneasel in melee, but the few feet between them made all the distance. That, the howling wind, and Sneasel's blurred form were enough for the Aura Sphere to miss it's mark. It collided with the cliff, blasting a crater in the cliffside beside Sneasel. He hissed down at Lucario and scuttled further up the rocky face.
"Quite a pickle Sneasel's in right now!' Zac said, commentating the match. "He's a physical attacker by nature, but with Lucario's far greater speed he's had to resort to his command of nature and cliffside abilities to put a safe distance between them."
The wind picked up again, as Sneasel redoubled his attack.

Zac pulled his Golden Explorer's Coat tight around him as chunks of sleet pelted the trainers. "Ah! Ow! Better take a few steps back Alexei Ivanov ! Looks like this weather's just gonna get worse!"

And it did. Sneasel had a single option, and he leaned into it. Hard. Blizzard-like winds tore at the cliffside and whirled at his opponent in driving squalls of rock and hail.
"Whoa! What power!" Zac said, grinning with blue lips. "Unless Lucario closes that distance, this may be a bit of a one-sided fight!"

And now they were going into the—wait a second, what?

Alexei almost broke out into a fit of laughter when he saw Zac pull on something that he didn’t notice the other man was wearing until that very moment. Gold? That’s no good when trying to conceal yourself! he thought with a grin on his face.

The fit of laughter almost became a guffaw the moment Zac decided to pick things up and commentated the entire match as it began unfolding! To be fair Zac did have the voice to be a commentator!

Over where the Lucario was watching the Sneasel, the incoming attacks—two of them—were making him think. Would he have to take one, take both, or…

It was time to play ‘hit and run’, so to speak.

For the first, a sudden burst of Extreme Speed allowed the Lucario to get away from the attack. The second one was going to be trickier, but considering that it was trying to chase him all over the place, another quick burst of speed was what was needed.

So, it was two applications of Extreme Speed; all to keep himself in the game!

The Lucario stood there watching, waiting for the Sneasel to try and catch him by surprise, tick tock.

    Zac frowned as the Lucario dashed madly around the open section of the battle. Can he really not get up there? Zac thought. He looked over at Alexei, who was just letting this happen. Zac slid one hand into his pocket and grabbed hold of the Biome Badge. "It looks like Lucario is having some problems getting up close and personal again," he said, frowning. "If a mountainside is such an unconquerable obstacles, I have to wonder if it was the right biome for these Pokemon to really show their stuff."
   Sneasel ascended easily, carving handholds in the cliff face. His claws lengthened and metallicized, and he slashed large chunks of stone out of the mountainside, letting them fall like a makeshift rockslide at the Lucario below.

    Zac gripped the piece of metal, watching as Sneasel easily clambered higher up the sheer cliff, leaving Lucario behind. He looked over at Alexei, waiting. If he can't show his usage on the environment, then he'll walk away empty handed.

“Don’t be afraid!” he called out from his vantage point; and the Lucario looked down to where Alexei waited, before letting out a nod.

He knew better than that. Of course Vincent knew better than that!

Seeing as the incoming blur was literally lording it over him, the much-larger Lucario took a deep breath and then concentrated. While one of the two incoming attacks was a literal side-step, the second one was something he couldn’t dodge at such a close range; and therefore he took the hit.

“Don’t let the terrain confuse you!” he added.

Turning on a dime, the Lucario then began to give chase, using Swords Dance in the process before rearing back and attempting a Meteor Mash packed punch!

Now if only the blur would stop fidgeting around…
