Beep...beep...beep…

Rowan listened to the increasingly maddening sounds of the heart rate monitor for hours on end, unable to leave the hospital bed until his recovery was completed. A member of his team was captured by the League and there was nothing he could do to help, only provide information to others about the captors and speculation as to where they may have taken her. Gavin had left hours ago to attend to his own duties, leaving Rowan alone with his thoughts as to what went wrong at the Cave of Origin, what he could have done differently to prevent their unfortunate outcome.

“Bloody hell, shut up.” Pulling the monitor off his finger, Rowan threw it across the room in frustration, finally silencing the incessant beeping of the machine. He hated feeling useless, and for now that's all he was.

Whatever was keeping Killian together evaporated once the report hit his desk. Captured and imprisoned by the league, Lex wouldn't be returning from her excursion. Words alone couldn't describe his anger. Arceus himself wouldn't be able to protect the unfortunate soul who had her.

First, he needed answers. The kind he couldn't get from the pages of a report. Only one person could give them to him, Rowan Wrynn.

Killian marched into the infirmary with murder in his eyes. Ignoring the nurses and doctors as they spoke to him. He went straight for the bed occupied by the brunette. A lit cigarette that did little to reduce his stress hung in his mouth. Baby blues narrowed at the injured Rocket.

An unfamiliar face strode into the Medical Bay with intense purpose, making a direct course for the room that Rowan happened to be resting in. The overbearing scent of cigarette smoke replaced the smell of antiseptic that hung in the air, an entirely welcome change from the chemicals. “I suppose that makes you Killian Decker , then?” A newly important member of the organization that had recently been promoted to Admin, or at least so he’d heard from rumors of those that passed by.

“She sacrificed herself so we could escape, used her Gardevoir to teleport myself and Oscar out of the Cave of Origin.” Rowan hung his head slightly, still embarrassed about how out of control the mission had become in such a small amount of time. “She went further into the cavern and ended up being confronted by the Ranger that was there, I believe Gavin called him Razz Kingsman .”

Smoke pours out from Killian's lips and into the air above Rowan. Blue eyes narrow. He's not in the mood to answer obvious questions. But taking it out on the hospitalized grunt won't do him any good.

"Yes." curt, frustration nips at the edge of his voice. The admin shifts, taking a long drag from his cigarette.

Everything he's told matches the report. All of it except the name, Razz Kingsman - that's new information. "Razz Kingsman." he repeats with venom. His face crinkles into a heavy scowl. Whoever this Razz character is, he's a deadman.

Silence fills the air as Killian focuses on the man. Carefully, he studies Rowan Wrynn. Trying to piece together what about him made Alexandra Briarwood think he was worth sacrificing herself over. Killian sees nothing. "Goddamnit Lex." a bitter sigh accompanies his words.

"So, Gardevoir teleported you and Oscar away. Where to?"

As though he didn’t feel guilty enough about how the mission had gone down, now he was forced to face the boyfriend of the person he'd inadvertently gotten captured by the League, today was going great. “I’m guessing it was her house, some place in Lavaridge from what Gavin told me. I don’t really remember much after being teleported, passed out pretty quickly from blood loss and all that fun stuff.” Awkward wasn’t a strong enough word for how he felt discussing the details of this with Killian Decker , considering that they were extremely intense and he was very high on pain medication.

“Razz Kingsman wasn’t the only one, from what Gavin told me. Lawrence Anderson the Head Ranger was there too, as well as a third man named Wledig who we aren’t certain of their identity.” Was this helping? Rowan wasn’t sure, but these were the details he’d given the underboss and if sharing them with Killian made up for the fact that he was here right now and Alexandra Briarwood wasn’t in any way, he’d spill what he could. “I’m not sure where they would have taken her, but I imagine somewhere close by in Sootopolis, they were ready for us to be there. I don’t know how, but they were prepared.”

"Our house?" he sighs. The revelation that Rowan likely bled all over his carpet is an upsetting one. But it's small in the grand scheme of things, and there are more important matters at hand.

Killian nods, another hit of his cigarette commits more names to memory. He appreciates that Rowan Wrynn's smart enough to realize it's better to spill everything he knows now. Rather than wait for Killian to grill him with questions.

"You're right - they wouldn't have taken her away from Sootopolis. It's too risky for them to move her anywhere else." ash falls to the floor. "What you're saying is that we have a rat?" of course they did. Killian pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs.

This new job just got so much harder.

"You've been very helpful, Rowan." a hand slips inside his jacket for his cigarettes. Charmeleon Reds. Killian flicks the pack open, revealing three unsmoked cigarettes. He offers one up in a gesture of kindness. Although the look on his face doesn't make it seem like Rowan has a choice.

“Thanks.” Rowan accepted the cigarette and immediately stuck it between his lips, expecting Killian to light the end. He hadn’t smoked since leaving Galar, having gone through the whole rebellious youth phase that included all the nicotine he could get his hands on. “Some scrapes and bruises from being thrown around like volleyball, and a decent sized hole in my leg where I was impaled on a stalactite.” A soft shrug of the shoulders punctuated the sentence, as though it wasn’t necessarily anything important, thanks to the painkillers not giving him a constant reminder.

“Pokémon healing should seal up the wound, but I’ll have to go easy for a couple of weeks to make sure it takes.” Rowan felt guilty discussing his own injuries when this man was missing the woman he loved, he could only imagine how horrible he felt if Adrian had been taken and had god knows what done to him. “Listen, for what it’s worth...I’m sorry about Alexandra. We shouldn’t have left her, but things went so wrong so fast. She sacrificed herself to save us and we are grateful, but she shouldn’t have had to do so.”

As expected, Killian lights the cigarette. A silent nod following as the man details his injuries. From the sounds of things, he'd be in a lot of pain if Rocket wasn't pumping him full of painkillers.

Fingers tap at a Poke Ball on his waist. With a flash, Quiet the Hatterene appears beside him. Her presence brings Killian's voice to little more than a whisper. "Heal Pulse." she nods, releasing a colorful wave of energy that washes over Rowan's body.

Scraps and bruises fade, the hole in his leg closing as skin and bone mend. The completion of its task sees the Hatterene returned to her Poke Ball.

Killian's eyes narrow, "Correct, you shouldn't haven't left her. I don't care how wrong things went." bitter and resentful, "Your apology is worthless to me, Rowan. I'm not going to wipe your guilt away by forgiving you" words wouldn't fix the fact Lex wasn't here.

"If you're sorry, then get stronger so something like this doesn't happen again."

Rowan took a deep drag of the cigarette, delighting in the familiar taste that he didn’t realize he missed so much until this moment. Nicotine calmed his nerves in a way that not even the morphine could soothe, a much needed reprieve in these unfortunate times. “You’re right.” Smoke escaped from his mouth as he spoke, agreeing with Killian Decker ‘s sentiment entirely even though it wasn’t particularly in his favor.

“Becoming stronger is what I want out of this organization, I joined because Gavin promised me power.” Honesty had been extended between them, and Rowan didn’t see any reason as to not continue. “I wish I had been strong enough to prevent her capture, but I don’t intend on repeating this failure again.”
