The first thing he’d encountered and it was something that made his eyebrows rise up.

Checking his PokéGear for a few moments, he went through the information, but alas—

It didn’t exactly fit the criteria of what he was looking for. While the Pokémon was useful due to its mixed-typing, sure, he was here on a mission, and that was to find a Healer-type Pokémon.

Hopefully he’d be able to find those. Or them. All he knew was that they were out there, somewhere, and he had to find them as soon as possible!

“Sorry,” he said quietly as he skirted around the Shellos, leaving it alone to forage in the undergrowth, before heading deeper into the Safari Zone.

The first Pokémon was a pass, however this one—well—

It would still technically count as a ‘pass’, however Lars had no desire to own a piece of the stars. That was too risky in an on itself already.

Realizing he owed one of his companions some ‘exercise time’, he then summoned the Altaria from the depths of the pink Love Ball she normally slumbered in.

At the sight of the Altaria, the Oricorio then opened fire with an Air Cutter attack, no preamble whatsoever.

“Wow, rude,” was all Lars could remark as the Altaria got buffeted around by the attack, having been caught by surprise. “Freeze it.”

This was going to be the test of how… potent the blessing he had from the deity that currently resided in the lowest levels of Shoal Cave. Was it true, that all of his companions’ Ice-type attacks, not just necessarily those who shared a type with the deity, had an increased chance to freeze?

The Altaria then opened fire with a potent Ice Beam after getting buffeted around with a second Air Cutter. Never mind if she didn’t like fighting, but the arctic energy shot through the empty space between the two.

At first, it only looked like the attack had glanced a sideswiping blow on the Oricorio.

What Lars was not expecting was the attack (what few bits and pieces managed to hit the Oricorio) to suddenly spread from the point of contact, before catching the strange Flying-type in a block of ice.

Well, well. It did work.

He got lucky, this time.

He then threw a Safari Ball at the frozen Oricorio.

He’d almost lost a foot—or worse, his own life had the Altaria not let out a warning screech in time.

A small speck of something—red? Or was it pink? Came hurtling from out of nowhere and literally threw itself down on the ground where Lars was about to step. Thank the hell his Altaria had managed to catch his attention.

“Nami, what—” he was about to say, before he felt the ground near his feet tremble from the force of the impact of whatever had crashed there.

“Damn. Thanks for the save,” he muttered as he took a few steps back to check what the hell had tried to snuff him out of existence.

It was…

A pink piece of candy? Or at least it looked like a piece of candy.

“Strange.”

He then left the Minior where it had crash-landed into, taking a different route to continue his search.

Not too long after they left the crater where the Minior had practically thrown itself into, the Altaria caught sight of something—sparkling…?

Wait, sparkling?!

A musical hum came from the cloud Pokémon before it quickly released a torrential blast of fire aimed at the Hatenna (not that Lars knew what it was) right at the same time it retaliated with a Dazzling Gleam attack.

Lars only had a few moments to blink before he saw the Flamethrower from the Altaria launched at something—

“What the—“ he began to say before the small, pink—wait a second, it was a shiny Pokémon?!

The Hatenna then pelted a rainbow-colored orb of Psychic energy at the Altaria, who took the attack head-on; before lashing out again with another Flamethrower and driving it backward.

“Nami, be careful! Don’t burn the—“ he warned the Altaria, however she was on the warpath. Normally a docile Pokémon, the Altaria continued to unleash torrential streams of Flamethrower until the Hatenna was singed ever so thoroughly.

“Geez,” he muttered as he shook his head and threw an empty Safari Ball at the singed Hatenna.

Unfortunately, when his Altaria went on the warpath, she literally went on the warpath.

Lars could only sigh as the normally docile puff-cloud of a Pokémon continued its trip through the undergrowth, opening fire with Flamethrower at anything and everything it saw.

This, of course, included something that looked like a pastel-fairy unicorn… what?

“Nami, what are you doing, you might want to stop—” he trailed off as the strange-looking equine trotted into view—

Right into one of the angry Altaria’s Flamethrower tirades.

A loud squeal of pain ripped through the clearing, however a sudden Dazzling Gleam caught the Altaria off-guard for the briefest of moments.

And how little did she realize that the attack was going to hurt her so much.

“Ooh, nasty,” he groaned as the Altaria let out a painful screech in return; only to redouble her Flamethrower efforts.

“Look, I’m not even doing anything! I’m sorry!” he said to the weird-looking Ponyta as it went under the force of the flames…

And he chucked another Safari Ball at it, to spare it the terror of the Altaria’s flames.

There was one thing that he had originally come for in the first place—he wondered if he would be able to find it this trip?

Otherwise, he’d be cutting it way too close for comfort. He knew he was lacking in other departments, especially—

Wait a second what the hell was that?!

A pink blur of something came literally crashing in—and then the Altaria realized that it could no longer stay airborne.

“Okay, who used Gravity?!” he exclaimed, looking around. It wasn’t until his brain registered that it was the little Happiny in front of him did he realize that he was going to have to tackle this in another manner.

“Alright, Nami, get back here,” he said as he recalled the Altaria before deciding to go out with a bang and summoned Ro instead.

If they were going to mess around with the area, might as well bring someone who could fight on even footing, right?

A Psychic blast came from out of nowhere, exploding around the Happiny before it decided to use Copycat and threw the exact same attack back at the Metagross!

“Wow, you’re not a healer, are you—“ he trailed off, before the Metagross closed the distance and dropped a Meteor Mash on the Happiny.

Ro… didn’t exactly take lightly to other Pokémon imitating his strategies, after all.

“Wow, never thought you were the violent kind,” he said with a chuckle as he threw the last Safari Ball at the Happiny before it could attack again.
