MARCH UPDATE

The outskirts of town. The uncomfortable span of time after evening and before morning. Caught between the coast and rows of warehouses and shipyards. Giona felt a tingling sensation between his ears, walking down this way. Between his ears, where a wild Haunter nearly buried a shipyard hook as a part of a prank.

They were both far enough from town that any commotion could be safely dismissed as the rumbling of Rattata and dock-workers. Giona dressed in a white button-up, black slacks, and black sneakers. He crawled over a railing, climbing down the ledge to a stretch of beach that didn't have much in the way of tourist attractions. Where graffiti tags and wanted posters formed a collage, in the instances where they weren't painted over to maintain appearances. A red beam from his pocket left an eerie blue-gray plate looming over his shoulder.

He knelt down by the edge of the water and grasped a round stone in his bandaged left hand. In one smooth motion, he assessed its weight and whipped it at the water. It skipped six times before sinking. The blue plate whispered to Giona; he turned his head, causing his earrings to jiggle like the bell on a restless cat. A visitor was here.

"Hey. What's up? Are you busy, or do you wanna hang out?”

why was he here?

[break][break] jayden couldn't even tell you himself.

[break][break] the dark-haired boy stood at the top of one of the ship containers, staring out at the water. the boyenberry hue of his shirt collar rippling in the wind, jayden wore a dress shirt paired with deep black slacks and dress shoes. as he stared over the sight of waves crashing against the shore, he was filled with a sense of nostalgia, reminded of the last time that he'd been here with Cillian Quinn .

[break][break] blood on his hands. dead bodies crumpled to the floor, dropkicked into the sea.

[break][break] his eyes flicker downwards, catching the back of a familiar head of hair. before he knows it, he finds himself climbing down from the container and onto the beach proper. his shuppet and shiny duskull shimmer around him, flickering in an out of sight. though normally he could do without the presence of veles, this time, the ghost-type does well in absorbing jayden's negative emotions.

[break][break] "i - yeah," he says, blinking. he's not sure what question he's responding to, not until he points at the direction of the water where the stone had been thrown. "what were you doing?"

If either of them breathed it in through their noses, they’d catch a hint of salt, from the sun baking it out of the sea.

Giona looked aside at Jayden. He had a cat-like nature. A person who did things kind of arbitrarily. Giona turned to face him. A little smile spread across his face. Not out of disrespect, no. He just had to welcome a recent friend.

”Oh! It’s you. I just come out here to watch the moon slowly fade from view. There’s something pretty about it. You can sit with me, if you want to. The bandages are supposed to come off my hands soon.”

He knelt down by the edge of the water and grasped a round stone in his bandaged left hand. In one smooth motion, he assessed its weight and whipped it at the water. It skipped eleven times before sinking. The blue plate whispered to Giona; he turned his head, causing his earrings to jiggle like the bell on a restless cat. A visitor was here.

The two were flanked by some........ visitors. Giona sicced his Bronzor on the taller of the two. It used Extrasensory, pulling it down and giving it a blinding headache. He lobbed a ball at the insect-steed, then waited there on the sand.

"You’re the kind of person that people need to have around. I’m actually glad that you caught me.”

no one had ever described him as a cat before. if he'd been able to hear giona's thoughts, he probably would have been likely bemused by it.

[break][break] as the other mentioned the moon, his gaze flickers upwards. violet eyes capture the curve of the moon that is just beginning to rise in the sky. it's whimsical. giona ferrara was right — there was something about it.

[break][break] jayden finds himself nodding, and deciding to take a seat with the other. it isn't often that jayden gets the time to spend time with others — fellow rockets even less.

[break][break] it's not like he's a sociable person.

[break][break] it's why it surprises him, what jonah says. he tilts his head. "need to have around?" he echoes.

[break][break] meanwhile, it seems that veles has found something equally interesting to note. he floats away from jayden just as the koffing comes into view. the ghost pokemon lets out a cackle as his SHADOW BALL cracks into the other pokemon, knocking him down onto the sand and causing him to roll at the boys' feet.

[break][break] jayden blinks, glancing down. it's vacant mouth and wide-set are almost cute, if it wasn't unconcious. he presses an empty pokeball to the skull shape on its forehead.

Giona turned to face Jayden, and grinned at him gently. His one dangling earring jiggled.

”You're sensitive, and smart. Talented, too. You just need more opportunities to be yourself.”

In retrospect, that was a bad way to save an already awkward turn of phrase. In his clunky sentence, his "you're the kind of person that people need to have around,"; Giona buried the lede, which was that he needed someone close. He had to phrase it in a way that didn't sound selfish, and wasn't articulate enough to pull it off.

He knelt down by the edge of the water and grasped a round stone in his bandaged left hand. In one smooth motion, he assessed its weight and whipped it at the water. It skipped three times before sinking. Chances are, it was the commotion Giona was making with his stones that kept drawing visitors. Despite going so far as to build a gym that was just a hall and an empty room, he hated the idea of being alone.

The two were flanked by some........ visitors. Giona's eyes lit up when he saw the Ivysaur. It reminded him of a Seismitoad he saw once. In a simpler time. Ivysaur struck Bronzor with Razor Leaf. Bronzor slowly skittered into it with Gyro Ball, launching it into the air. Giona quickly rolled a ball so Ivysaur would land on it and be taken in. The ball wiggled on the sand in anticipation.

"So.......... Do you have any friends at work?”

[break][break] the words still catch jayden by surprise. the boy wears a bemused expression as he looks at giona ferrara , unsure how to take these words for what they were. while he would give it to the other that he was smart - one could not have survived in rocket as long as he did without having some elements of intelligence - and perhaps even talented - again, for the same reason - the other words were not ones he was used to associating with himself.

[break][break] in fact, as far as emotions were generally considered, jayden wondered if he was the opposite of sensitive.

[break][break] most questionable of all of the things that giona had said, however, were the last. opportunities to be himself?

[break][break] "... i'm not sure what you mean," the boy says eventually, head tilted to the side. of all of the things dmitri taught him, ways to be himself did not seem to be part of them. what was the point in being ones self? what was the merit?

[break][break] did jayden even know what that meant?

[break][break] likely not.

[break][break] his mauve-colored gaze shifts, watching as the fellow rocket captures the ivysaur. he starts, however, as a wild scraggy finds it's way into his lap. it sniffs at jayden's pockets, to which the trainer procures a small berry that the pokemon gobbles up almost instantly.

[break][break] "friends?" his lips purse. would he consider any of his comrades friends? immediately, Cillian Quinn springs to mind, but the thought of labeling the rocket underboss as something so simple as friends seems... wrong. "well, CIAN MAHER has a room next to mine on the sub. does that count?"

[break][break] he pauses, pointing at the stone in the other's hand. "... what're you doing?"

[break][break] the words he does not say — what's the point?

Giona turned to face Jayden, and grinned at him gently. His one dangling earring jiggled. He raised a hand and pointed to the sea. To the darkened pool, nearly black because it had no sunlight and blue sky to reflect. With his free hand, he lobbed another stone. This one was especially smooth and flat, as it skipped across the water seventeen times before sinking.

”People do this sort of thing when they’re stressed out, but... I just think it’s beautiful when the ripples in the dark sea catch the silver light of the moon.”

Distancing? Cowardly? This was less like that than anything he said that night. He was something of a nature respecter. A hiker, who’d been to both the foothills of Mount Pyre, and Mount Chimney. He’d seen colors and shapes in the real world that no human work of art or advertisement would show him.

He smirked. It was impossible to feign shock at what happened next. Stirring the water finally lead to a fresh fish trying to shut him up. A Carvanha leapt from the water, trying to pin Giona with Crunch. Bronzor bore the brunt of the hit, and retaliated with Gyro Ball. A slow grind pinning it against the sand. Giona hurled a pokeball to it.

The next move would be to circle back around in the conversation. To finally step up and try to relate to him.

"That depends. Do you hang out with Cian? Maybe... we could go out to lunch a week from now.”

his gaze follows the other as it skips across the water. the beach is nearly silent except for the sound of the rock splashing against the ocean's surface, creating a rippling effect. for a moment, jayden is entranced.

[break][break] "it is beautiful," he agrees. his head tilts towards the other, expression curious. "are you... stressed?" it is a word that jayden does not find himself using often, mostly because the idea of stress seems to be a foregone conclusion when you are an agent of an illegal criminal organization. but alas.

[break][break] as giona grappled with the snapping fish, jayden finds his own attention diverted. slowly, across the way, is a muk sliding through the sand. flames shoot out from his shuppet as it ensnares the pokemon with will-o-wisp, followed by a fierce blast of hex to knock the pokemon unconcious. a pokeball flies through the air to capture it.

[break][break] he considers it. did he hang out with CIAN MAHER ? no... they did other things with their time, usually. jayden shakes his head at the other's question.

[break][break] "that sounds good to me," he agrees after. "did you have a place in mind?"
