"what're you doing here?" her tone is perhaps softer than she intended. Dutch should be pissed at this little girl having snuck onto the ship. it was her job, lowly as it was, to secure the merch and make sure it wouldn't move during sea voyage. she started from the bottom of the barrel. but the sight was more amusing than anything. seemed the kid made it past the guards.

she was almost impressed.

if Dutch had to guess, the kid was running away. thankfully it was Dutch who found her. if the others did... the kid would be brought before the captain and then tossed overboard. they were docked in Malie but still. seemed kinda harsh. the pirate life hadn't hardened her yet. "come on, speak up" she waits for the girl to say something. some fuckin' excuse of some kind.

As a voice pierces through the silence that they've stolen for themselves, Lilith finds herself looking right back at a stranger - A sailor aboard this ship. Behind her, a Wooloo, Zorua and Alolan Vulpix quail whereas a Mimikyu growls and begins to shake erratically. It is only when she holds a hand out to the fairy that it calms, falling silent and withdrawing its shadowy tendrils.

She finds it slightly strange that she hasn't been dragged out of her hiding spot or put on trial. Then again, it's a little hard for anyone to put a knife to her neck when they recognise her -

Lilith Eirwen, the missing heiress to one of Alola's largest traders and businesses. It has probably been about a week since her disappearance was announced to the public and a miracle that she's gone this long without being caught thus far. And perhaps, her efforts show by the hastily scrubbed dirt marks and horribly patched scraps on her limbs; An appearance far more convincing than the empty look she gives the stranger.

A quiet breath, the inner voices silenced as the answer come to mind.

"Running from home." She murmurs, "Stowing away."

she was quiet before she spoke. a brow raised, the girl confirmed her suspicions. yep, running away. "that don't mean you can starve to death, eh?" the woman steps back, dropping the ship rope she had been holding onto a nearby barrel. brushing dirt off her hands, Dutch would address the girl again.

"come on out. no use hidin' there when I know you's there" the pirate adds "don't worry; I won't be taking you anywhere but the mess hall for some grub" a hardened hand extends, the expression on the stranger's face warm enough "look like you haven't had a proper meal in awhile, am I right?"

[attr="class","hanatext"]She briefly wonders if she's hallucinating. Kindness isn't something that she's used to receiving, much less from someone who she clearly shouldn't be talking to.

"You're not sending me home?" The question is an instinctive one - Lilith knows better than anyone that the reward for her must be quite lucrative, growing by the day considering the number of bounty hunters she's spied on her way here. So are they simply trying to trick her into letting her guard down?

Their offer seems so tempting but she hesitates to take the hand. Behind her, her pokemon are watching, waiting for any signs of danger and depending on her to protect them. They perk up at the mention of a meal, driven by hunger but not quite starved enough to simply believe another human.

"Will there... be others there? I don't want to be recognised..."

"naw" the woman replies with a shake of her head and a shrug "if we turn ya in, you'll just run away again. even if we get paid with a reward - I'm guessin'? - you'll just keep it up. am I right or am I right?" Dutch chuckles, rubbing the back of her head idly. yeah, having a nice full coffer would be nice but... they may be pirates... but...

well, they had their share of runaways having joined the crew over the years.

"wear this" the girl didn't want to be spotted, so Dutch'd pull out a long robe with a big hood from the cargo hold. transporting materials - even clothing - was what the captain did apart from 'illegal' activities. he had some honesty. some. "I'm third in charge, so if they look at you funny... just tell me, kay? I'll send 'em running." captain and co didn't need to know.

"let's go. the offer'll expire soon. I ain't getting younger, yanno."

Once she's thrown back into the bird cage, it'll definitely be a death sentence for her pokemon and she can't quite afford to seem like she doesn't know what she's doing. The fear of power strikes deep in her heart, her fists clenching the hems of her clothes as she quietly swallows her breath. As her gaze flicks towards her pokemon, she's reaching out for the cloak, albeit remaining a little hesitant in doing so.

"T- thank you very much for your assistance, Miss..."

luckily for the kid, having Pokémon under your feet was a hazard of the job. there were plenty of fighting types on deck to help with the ropes and other ship-shape stuff. "it's Dutch" she replies to the girl "and you don't hafta tell me your name..." she adds, stepping back as the other human being situates herself.

"let's go then" she gestures for the girl and her partners to follow, turning on the spot and walking off. a few other pirates glanced their way once they were out of the cargo hold. but Dutch was quick to bark orders. "if ya have time to gawk, you have time to work!" she caws at them, making them run back to their duties.

thankfully the walk didn't take awkwardly long. she pushes open the door to the mess hall and closes it once the girl and the Pokémon were inside. "hope you like eggs and bacon" she sniffs the air quietly, the aroma of breakfast and lunch still on the grill "and we have some Pokémon food for yer little ones."

[attr="class","hanatext"]Not having to give her name might not be that big of a deal to Dutch but to Lilith, she finds an endless well of comfort in maintaining anonymity. With the coat hood pulled down, not even a strand of hair is revealed to the ship's crew, every pair of watching eyes quickly chased away at the woman's very command.

Her pokemon are more than happy to be out of the public eye once they reach the mess hall, enticed by the wafting scent of cooked food as they look to Lilith for any hints of danger. The food Dutch mentions is nowhere as fanciful as the breakfast menus created by the chefs at home, and yet they do just fine in chipping at her icy heart.

She focuses on her pokemon first, pouring out enough food for them and slipping in small bits of bacon for the two foxes. As they begin to tuck in and practically inhale their food, Lilith sighs, allowing her attention to wander to their benefactor.

"How… often do you have to deal with stowaways, Miss Dutch? And where will this ship be heading to next…?"

"Hoenn." she gave the question a simple response for now. setting down on the other side of the bench-styled table, she huffs. Hoenn, huh? what was the captain thinking... it was wild there, ripe for the picking sure but did they want to tangle with the League so close? the high-seas never was a problem; always out of the League's eye. deemed too much to be maintained. too much work. not when Rocket had a hand in the sticky jar that was Hoenn.

"we deal with 'em every time we go into port" she adds with an amused grin "sometimes I even toss them into the water - don't look at me like that, I'm not gonna do it to you, missy" Dutch barks a laugh "mostly they come in and eat our food during the voyage if not caught. that means my men and women have less for the ride. we have to stop and 'refuel' on the way to our destination. and that eats up time." time wasted meant little pay in the end.

even if our goods aren't legal sometimes she thinks, wondering how much this kid knew about their humble ship.

[attr="class","hanatext"]Hoenn... it's as good a starting point as any. She could catch another boat sailing to another region as soon as they reached the port, buy herself more time and cover her tracks. As she takes a bite of her own food, there's some relief to be found in Dutch's straightforwardness - It's highly unlikely that she'll be going overboard with all the time and effort that's been spent thus far.

"This ship is one of those, isn't it?" Placing her fork down, Lilith lets her gaze wander over to her pokemon. "A vessel for smuggling..." She can tell by the subtle scent that lingers in the hold, that familiar smell that haunts her from every inspection she's been brought to. "Can I.... ask what is being transported?"
