"Morning! I'm here for the gym battle with my best mate Melody!" Zac said to the receptionist. They checked their list, confirmed the reservation, they even tactfully avoided mentioning that he was a few minutes late, and they directed Zac over to the comfortable waiting area.

Zac sat down, put down the present he had brought for Melody, and sent out all of his Pokemon. A bit of a stretch and some fresh, ocean air would help them relax before the match.

Some of them were still sandy from playing on the beach, and Grooky had somehow lost his twig and was using a popsicle stick instead. "Wha-? Greg! Where's ya bloody stick?" The monkey just grinned at him, showing too many teeth.

Melody had heard zac had challenged her gym, oh boy how exciting! Now it was his turn in the hot seat! Melody was eager too since he picked a genre that not many people liked to pick. However she absolutely adored Disco as a genre! It was a beautiful genre that emphasized on getting the party started and having everyone feel good! Who could hate that?! [break][break]

As Zac approached he would be able to see that the gym was totally set up for a "space" themed battle! Why space? Because why not! Space disco was totally trendy right now on the internet and she loved the idea! So with that! Melody quite literally ROLLED out onto the stage as she roller bladed her way over to the center of the stage. Her get up being the same one she wore to the urban contest with her oversized puff jacket, retro headset and jean shorts. "Zac!" she said as she waved at him from her usual starting position! [break][break]

"Finally made you way here huh? And with a cute team of Pokémon as well!" she said as she smiled from ear to ear "So just for a quick recap. For bullet hell challenge it's matter of endurance! You will be constantly attacked by my team of pokemon and your sole goal is to survive! You can pretty much do whatever you please as long as you don't attack my Pokémon. When the music stops if you have at least one pokemon standing left you win!" she explains to him. "Any questions?"

"Melody! Looking great!" Zac said, laughing at the awesome outfit that his fellow gym leader had put together. She looked straight out of space! "No questions. Seems straith forward. I'm ready when you are, just let me-" Zac reached into his jacket and pulled out a set of rhinestone encrusted shades. The combination of disco, space, and Pokemon battle was bound to be flashy, and the last thing he needed was to be blinded again. Zac removed his outer layer, revealing his battle costume.

Pure white bell-bottom trousers, loose and flexible, and a tight, reflective shirt made from cloth-of-silver. He looked like a moon-based male escort, a happy coincidence. Zac set to work doing a few preliminary stretches. He had the sudden urge to jog in place. Probably an ancient impulse built from watching daytime jazz-aerobics on tv as a kid.

"Let's get the team out here!" Zac said, and bursts of light filled the gym. Busta, Zappa, REM, Big Habanero, Nyx, and Greg. An all-star cast, composed of Pokemon old and new. Each would have their chance to shine in the upcoming fight. "Okay Melody...HIT IT!"

WUH! Melody looked on at zac and laughed a bit "I should've expected someone like you to come full prepared for the situation." she said giggling to herself a bit. "I love the look! It totally screams you!" she tells him in earnest. [break][break]

"However, No one is gonna outshine the Diva in her own realm!" she exclaimed as the gym suddenly vanished into total darkness. A black light turned on and several white dots glittered across the gym and the planets and decorations around the arena began to move around and Melody was dancing in her skates to the rhythm of the beat. [break][break]

Her pokemon team then also took center stage, rilaboom starting off the song with a steady beat of his drums! The rest of her pokemon took to the stage, dancers and special effects pokemon ready for battling! "Alright! Rondo! Moon blast, Boom burst, poison gas, hydro pump, freeze dry, wonder room!" she ordered as they each knew their places and their moves and got to work assaulting his team! [break][break]

"Alright! Rondo! Moon blast, Boom burst, poison gas, hydro pump, freeze dry, wonder room!"

Attacks shot at Zac's team from all sides, but the brunt were aimed right at his leading-mean REM. Boomburst rocked the arena, but Zac countered in turn. REM's own BOOMBURST blasted out, only the sound was out of phase with Rillaboom's attack. The sound waves collided and cancelled out, and and booming silence pounded in Zac's chest. "Nice thinking mate!" Zac said, grinning at REM.

Moonblast, Hydro Pump, and Freeze Dry shot towards his team, and Greg leaped to the rescue. The little monkey jumped in front of the attacks like a bonobo bodyguard. He flailed his stick PROTECTIVELY and the Moonblast shattered into sparkling shards. Hydro Pump hit a heartbeat after pounding against the shield and spraying water far and wide. The shield cracked, and Freeze Dry was the nail in the coffin. The icy blast rocked Zac's team, chilling their dancing muscles and making them stiff and slow. Zac shuddered, wishing he brought warm clothes.

Then the poison rolled in. Zac had nothing for that. "Move back guys, stay away," Zac said, waving his friends backward across the pulsing dance floor as the gas crept closer. Zappa put up LIGHT SCREENS, but the advancing cloud seeped between the panels, not slowed by the feeble blockade.

REM countered Boomburst with Boomburst
Greg tanked Moonblast 100%, Hydropump 80%, and Freeze Dry 50% using Protect
Zac's team are chilled and slowed by the remaining icy blast
Poison Gas rolls in, getting closer
Zappa used Light Screen. It wasn't very effective

The wonder room sent everyone into a tizzy as the gym theater began to look more and more like actual space itself as the dim lighting and the psychic visuals began to cover the field. She snapped her fingers and some planets that seemed like normal decorations began circle around the battle field, however they were all on the rim of the arena moving slowly in a circle. [break][break]

She then nodded in appreciation of zac's strategy so far. It worked out pretty well for him as grookey managed to mitigate a LOT of damage. But how long would he be able to hold out was the question. "Alright ya'll! Lets keep it up! Zac's team aint got nothing on us!" she says encouraging her pokemon and riling them up. [break][break]
The poison gas continues to crawl over to zac's team, slowly yet surely as now a new fog also breaks into the poison fog. "Build on it! Chord!" she calls out [break][break]

Musharna uses it's psychic terrain and lets it overflow the field, adding to more color as well. Gardevoir and Hypno both use psychic on zappa. Rilaboom uses drum beating and mr rime uses mimic and tapped his feet along the floor while dancing to also create more vines to lash out and try to restrain a random target on zac's team! Lastly Ludicolo getting caught out alone and with no dance partner strikes his own pose and fires off an energy ball at the zappa

The poison gas flowed in, surrounding them like stage fog. Were it not for the sickly purple pallor of the vapor it would be almost atmospheric. "We've gotta get up! Come on guys!" Zac said, and he pointed up at the dozens of planets that were suspended from the ceiling by hearty steel wires.

Zac grabbed up Greg, who was tuckered out from the Protect. He slid the exhausted monkey into his inner pocket, along with the remains of his broken twig. Greg was out of this fight. "Up!" Zac called, but his Pokemon were already moving.

Doduo sprung upwards, their wide feet digging into the surface of a Jupiter. Busta faired just as well, propelling himself into the air with a gout of azure flame. Zappa sprang into the air, crackling between the wires and finding a little orb of his own. REM flew. Easy as that.

That just left Nyx. Melody's Musharna pulsed with PSYCHIC power, and the gas rolled in around their ankles. Vines from the DRUM BEATING lashed at Zac and Nyx, binding them to the floor as the poisonous gas rose higher. Zac felt is burn at his bare feet, the noxious fumes eating through his disco pants.

"You've got poison gas right?" Zac asked, frantic, as the floor started to beat and pulse underneath them. Nyx nodded. "Can you do some sort of...anti poison? Like cancel it out?" Nyx shook his head. The gas reached their waists. "Okay, well, what about Metronome?" Nyx nodded enthusiastically, whipping out his little silver disc and cord.

Without preamble, Nyx closed his eyes, and the Metronome began. Slow, sonorous notes struck with each swing of the charm, as if the disc were sliding across some tuned, metallic surface. The gas didn't slow or lessen. "Come on mate!" Zac said, encouragingly. Nyx's eyes opened. They were aglow with determination and backbeat.

Nyx used RELIC SONG

Suddenly, Nyx's metronome split into slivers of black and white, and the air came alive with funky synth and rhythm as the Hypno went to town, laying down some phat disco jams on their psychic keyboard. The song was fresh, it was hip, and yet it struck a long untuned chord deep within Zac. It was the disco that his parents would have danced to. It was the music his grandparents would have dreamed of on a starry, hope-filled night. It was an ancestral bop. The tune transcended time. It crossed boundaries of understanding, plucking right at the heart chords and pounding on your diaphragm as it spoke with a universal language: disco.

Zac looked up at his team, let out a wild, unrestrained cry of joy, and they hit it.

REM tuned in to the song, blasting it through the roof and sky with his BOOMBURST. The backing bass melded with Nyx's jams, creating an orchestral alloy.

The dual PSYCHIC and the soaring ENERGY BALL bore down on Zappa, and the lizard chirped in worry, fleeing along the wires that held the planets above the dance floor. The powerful attacks followed, blasting a dozen hanging spheres to glittering powder before knocking Zappa out in a well-timed BA-BA-BOOM.

She giggled at the way zac was battling. Despite on the surface it seeming like zac was just messing around he wasn't That strange song Melody didn't recognize and the boom burst drowned out the drum beating making it unable to reach the pokemon that were hanging on the planets above. It seems like zac was able to pick up on the strategy melody left for her opponents to dodge that. nice. [break][break]

Melody liked zac and his team's beat so far, it was certainly unique and one that mashed well together. But how would they handle a situation suddenly turned sticky?! "REMIX" she called out as the music changed to a more EDM tone and some of the pokemon on her previous team were swapped out by mr rime's ally switch for new ones! [break][break]
"Mystical fire, boomburst, dazzling gleam, synchronoise, freeze dry! moon blast!" she called out. "Hope you're enjoying the space theme, let's go a bit more futuristic edm with it though!" she grinned, he was a gym leader! of course she had to make this more difficult!

Melody's remix kept Zac on the back foot, but as the new wave of beats and beatdowns rolled in, he remembered a little something he had up his sleeve: avatar powers. "Nyx we gotta move, ready?" he asked, as he drew from the plant life around him. The tangling vines wilted, and life energy flowed into Zac. He let out a puff of satisfied breath, just as the Boomburst and Synchronoise rocked the field. Underfoot, tiles shattered and floorboards warped, and Nyx doubled over in pain. He'd been freed from the vines, but was not under auditory and psychic assault! "I gotcha mate!" Zac said, staggering across the floor to wrap strong arms around the Pokemon. Some of his accumulated healing energy pulsed into Nyx, and together they weathered the attacks.

Overhead, Zac's other Pokemon were doing much better. The Mystic Fire, Freeze Dry, Dazzling Gleam and Moonblast soared high, painting the flashing roof and disco planets with otherworldly lights. Intense, flashing sparkles rocked the arena, overloading REM's hypersensitive eyes. Fortunately, he had another pair of eyes looking out for him from the ground. "Incoming REM! Scatter!" Zac shouted. The dragon whizzed through the air, flying blind as it tried to avoid the incoming attacks using only his hearing. Busta and Big Habanero leapt out of the way of the fleeing REM, sending handing planets swinging wildly. Doduo scrabbled for purchase on the slippery orbs, but Busta simply grabbed the cable with her huge claw.

Unfortunately, eyesight is crucial in a battle. Dazzling Gleam shot wide, spraying the wall with crystalline dents, but the other moves were right on target, and REM was burnt, frozen, and finally blasted with lunar energy. Zac managed to return the crumpled form of his Flygon as it fell from the sky. And then there were only three.

"Whew! You're really making me sweat for this one!" Zac called out to Melody. He wasn't used to EDM, but the beat was loud and bumping. He got the feeling that Zappa would have been all over this music.

Seems like the remix got to him? Regardless she had to keep up her assault as the music was nearing the end now! "Aw cmon now, I have faith in your skills! You can keep up! Try your best!" she called out to him, she was surprised his pokemon were going down so quickly. She wanted him to win, it was zac after all! She couldn't let up tho, if she wanted him to improve from her challenge she had to squeeze out every last bit of effort. [break][break]

But at this rate...maybe pull back the tempo a bit and see how he tries to recover? Ya, seems like a good option. "Adagio!" she called out "Psychic x4! Screech! Disable!" She called out as she pointed towards the planets and her pokemon began to uses psychic to control the planets. The poison gas that was covering the floor began to vanish making it safe for his mons to descend if they so chose to but now the planets they were once standing on began to flying around wildly, trying to crash into them.

The planets shifted.

Blue and purple sphered pulled hard at their moorings, snapped free in little showers of plaster and shot straight towards Doduo. The little bird heads squawked in alarm, and fell to the disco floor. They put on a burst of Agility and led the flying orbs on a speedy chase across the arena.

Clawitzer launched a volley of blasts, blowing up the plaster planets. As she fired the last few shots, her claw clicked. Something in her projectile physiology had been Disabled, and she wouldn't be able to shoot for a while. She slammed her claw against the floor in frustration. "Come on Busta, you heard Melody," Zac said supportively. "We can do this. You've got skills even without your claw."

A screen, the last of Melody's attacks for this round, sounded across the floor. It cut through the thumping EDM like a hot knife through a ghost, and pierced the ears of everyone of Zac's team.

Doduo used Agility and ran away from the planets
Clawitzer shot down the planets
Clawitzer got disabled
Everyone got screeched

Yes! He did really well, the music playing reflecting this began to pick up into it's final phase "Alright zac! It's time for the big FINALE!" she called out as her other pokemon looked at her in horror and fled the stage as they knew what was going to be coming next, the music now switched to the same song but a rock version of it. A hole in the floor opened up for a primarina to shoot out of it from the ocean below. [break][break]

"Withstand this attack and you'll earn the badge from me. Are your pokemon a good enough fit with you to withstand the power of our Z move?!" she called out, not even waiting for an answer as she was too eager and zealous now to stop. "PRIMARINA!" she called out as z-energy swirled around the two of them in unison "lets give give them one final grove! The final act of our show is coming to it's crux! IT'S TIME FOR A CRASHING CRESCENDO!" she shouted from the top of her lungs as primarina mimicked her movements and an aura of energy coated the two as the water from the floor below began to break through the cracks and gather at Primarina's side [break][break]

Primarina's crashing crescendo manifested in the form of musical notes shaped out of water and launched themselves with furious speed at zac's team, pokemon hit by this sound move will be unable to use sound moves for three turns ~~not like it matters since this is a final act~~.

"It's time for Crashing Crescendo!" shouted Melody.

Her voice sent chills down Zac's spine. Inside his white disco suit he was sweating up a storm, half from early-onset Disco Fever and the other half from sheer, sheet-music terror.

The terrifying final movement to Melody's gym challenge soared towards him as a sea of shuddering notes.

He was in serious treble.

"Busta! Pop those notes!" Zac shouted, and Busta blasted away, her claw booming with deep, bass thuds as the shots rang out. Notes popped, but the Crashing Crescendo tumbled across the dance floor and Busta was overwhelmed.

Zac turned to run. "Nyx! Let's get going mate!" he said, but the Hypno shook his head. Pink fur swirled in a psychic wind, and the ground shook as a powerful Earthquake rocked the dance floor. The dried tangle of plants from Melody's Drum Beating shattered in a spray of twigs.

Zac stumbled backwards, clutching the lump of the unconscious Greg in his jacket. "No! Get outta there—" The notes pounded Nyx into the ground, and his pink fur disappeared under the spray. Zac ran for it.

Big Habanero was the only one left, and the bird dove heads first into the fray. They landed between Zac and the approaching wave, let out a honk of anger and set about with their twin heads flailing.

Sparkling notes popped left and right, spraying the Doduo with soap and harsh music. They staggered, and Zac reached forward to pull them to safety.

One of the heads turned and bit him. Hard.

"Ow! What the hell?!" he asked, holding his hand, but Doduo honked at him and turned back to the fight, heads slapping at the solid notes. In moments Big Habanero was overwhelmed. Lost under a flood of sound.

And then it was just Zac.

Crashing Crescendo roiled and tumbled across the floor towards him. Melody had beaten him fair and square, and as the notes closed in, the curtain closing on his performance, Zac began to sing "Amaaaaaazing—"

A little green slapped over his mouth, then another grabbed at his beard, yanking hard as a tiny monkey crawled from his jacket. Greg clambered up onto Zac's head and pulled a dried twig from the trainer's hair.

As the tuneful tsunami crashed over them, Greg held up his stick, and used Protect.

Busta fainted

"GREG?!" She shouted as the song ended and all of her Pokémon stared on in disbelief "Did that little bugger play fainting?!" she was amazed, that little monkey could act! She smiled and scratched the back of her head, moving towards her primarina and patted her on her head. "I thought your singing was amazing." [break][break]

The arena responded to melody's walking and made steps for her before she would fall off the stairs. She approached zac and stopped right before him, leaning only a few inches from zac's face as she was getting a close look at them both. "HMmMmMmMm. Yep I was right, you deffffff have a great friendship, with all your pokemon." she smiled at him, pulling back suddenly and throwing both of her hands in the air "Zac I am happy to declare you have won!" [break][break]

She pulled the badge out from her back pocket and went over to pin it onto his shirt "There you go! All set!" she grinned at him. "How many does that make now?" she asked him.
