During the tournament, the tan of his skin had only grown deeper—but the sun was still unrelenting. At this point, it was maybe even getting to him a little. He needed a break from it, and he knew he wasn’t the only one.

A desert was not that break.

He poured more water from a large canteen through his hair, which kept drying quickly and becoming a tiny bit frizzier each time he did it.

“Whew.”

He looked back at his partner, smiling through the discomfort. “Hot.”

A Rhyhorn slid down a dune, looking like she was having much more fun, maybe.

How had anyone talked her into taking this mission? Having to roast in the summer sun was one thing, having to be cooked alive in a desert was another. Her Lilligant on the other hand, seems to be having the time of her life, swaying gracefully in the wind without the slightest sense of urgency or worry.

"Could you at least... I don't know, track the snakes down or something, Edith?"

Though Zahra tries her best to call out to the blooming flower, Edith seems a little too engrossed in her praising of the solar beauty. The sun is her friend and she must treat it with respect in kind, Magical Leaves twirling around her and scattering to the harsh heated winds as she dances with arms akimbo.

Maybe next time, she should double check the assignment she's been given.

“Looks like they’re having fun.”

He chuckled and wiped some sweat off his brow with the back of his hand. “Okay. I’ve got an idea.”

Reaching for a pokeball at his belt, he then released a Fearow into the air. It cawed and zoomed across the dunes, blowing past the Rhyhorn and Lilligant and terrifying top speed. Just getting out some energy.

“Fearow: make it rain.”

Another caw, and the bird began to do flips and maneuvers in the air. Her RAIN DANCE looked graceful and fancy, and soon, clouds began to gather above. The temperature cooled a bit finally, and water fell from the sky, into their hair and across the sand.

“Maybe it’ll make the snakes come up,” he guessed.

Arceus bless the rain down in ~~Africa~~ the deserts. The downpour brings a moment of respite to the weary travellers, clearing the mind of hazy thoughts. Walking around for a brief moment, Zahra kneels down and begins to observe the strange series of holes in the sand.

"If it doesn't, then this probably will."

Gesturing Edith over, Zahra cants her head towards the snake tunnels. The Lilligant responds with a graceful twirl, water shimmering off her figure as Magical Leaves scatter down the holes, readily chasing any and everything that wanders the underground networks.

A Sandshrew soon emerges, followed by a bunch of Dwebble and a Sandile, each chased by a vicious leaf that only returns back to its tunnel excavation when Edith realises they've targeted the wrong pokemon. After a bit more chasing and a ton of waterlogged sand, she swears she hears a faint hissing echoing through the dunes.

Clouds gathered and raindrops cascaded down onto the sand, muddying a little, but pleasantly cooling the back of his neck. He leaned his head over, brushing hair and sweat upwards with a swipe of his hand.

He watched Zahra’s strategy. It was clever, and a nod acknowledged it. “Nice. Good idea.”

Then, all of the wrong things came up out of the holes. Luckily, none of them seemed to want to continue a fight, thoroughly frightened and maybe having been shocked out of a nap.

Once the rest of the wildlife had fled for the time being, they were finally being approached by what they’d come for. He turned, eyeing through dips in the sand to see if he could spot it.

“You got eyes on it?”

If Zahra didn't have eyes on it before, she sure as hell has eyes on it now. Poisonous fangs explode from the sand, ravenous and driven by rage. Had Zahra not backed off when she did, she might have found her arm chewed upon.

With its habitat destroyed by the works of man, the Sandaconda's wrath knows no bound. Sand blasts through its nostrils, the rushing stream aimed at the perpetrator of the sudden rain. If that doesn't work, it turns to those on the ground, kicking up a Sandstorm with vicious flicks of its tail.

"Edith, catch the winds."
[break][break]
With a curtsey, the Lilligant begins to flower, spreading her Leaves into the sweeping Storm. Though she doesn't mean to hurt the Sandacobra, they have to keep the threat at bay. Can't catch a snake if it's busy biting off your limbs.

Eyes on it or not, something was almost right on them.

It burst from the sand, steam shooting from its nostrils to burn, but Bo’s Fearow was much too fast. The bird evaded, and then dove bravely through the SANDSTORM that was immediately picked up, muddied and even more irritating in the rain.

Bo coughed and swiped at the back of his neck, hating the feeling.

“Be nice, Fearow!”

There was a defiant screech, but the bird minded him. Instead of assaulting, it opted for disorienting. AGILITY granted it the speed to become nothing more than a blur through the air around the Sandacobra, taking leaves and sand to spin in the wake of its sleek feathers.

He looked over to Zahra, as she’d been much closer to the snake. He hadn’t seen if she’d been hit or not.

“You good?”

Caught up by the blurring figure of the Fearow, the Sandaconda screeches, blowing a barrage of sand right at the bird in hopes of knocking it out of the skies. In the midst of a roaring sandstorm, it's hard to tell where the shots come from but Edith is already on the case. Her leaves reach to the heavens, imploring them to part the skies and cast their light upon the lands, dispelling the storm and blessing them with a brilliantly Sunny Day.

the fearow screeched, and barrel-rolled with sharp speed out of the way of the ongoing sand attack, but still didn’t dive back closer, choosing to circle instead.

when the storm cleared and sun beamed down, the sandacobra was fully exposed and vulnerable.

they were meant to do the job without harming the snake too much, but it didn’t seem very willing to leave its home without a fight, so he suggested over his shoulder, “got anything that could put it to sleep?”

he should get himself something like that, maybe.

Put it to sleep... She looks to him but is quick to realise that he's probably only asking her that since he doesn't have anything of that sort on hand.

"Edith, you heard him."

Even without instructions, the Lilligant is already responding, her soft dance turning into a sweeping waltz as she disperses a cloud of Sleeping Powder. It falls upon the Sandacobra and clings to it like a soft mist, seeing that it might thrash and struggle but never be able to escape. Soon enough, its movements grow less erratic, dying down into mere quivers before it collapses into the sand.

As silence falls over the field, Zahra takes the chance to creep up to the snake, cautiously prodding at it to confirm if it worked. And as soon as she's sure of it, she grabs it by the torso, flinging it at Boruta with a relatively slow pitch.

"You can hold it. I'd rather not be the one getting sand blown in my face if it wakes."
