There's panic, but only because Cait has noticed something amiss. The woman ends the battle and approaches her, concern evident in her face.[break][break]

Stormy flinches away at her touch, pulling away slightly. She's embarrassed and angry now, but not at Cait. She's angry at herself for being weak, for cracking under the pressure, for reliving horrible memories.. for not being strong enough.[break][break]

"Yes, of course I'm okay. Why wouldn't I be?"[break][break]

She snaps, reacting out of her own self-hatred. She's being mean, but its because she's battling with her own demons. She doesn't want Cait to know how damaged she is, how terribly, horribly scared she is.[break][break]

Charmeleon also returns to her trainer's side, looking up cautiously. She can already feel the negative energy coming off her master. It's quite powerful.[break][break]

once again she had pressed stormy a little too hard.

'i really need to stop making that into a habit. i've already done it once before.'

"i pressured you into a battle," she admitted. "i thought..."

she kept her hands to herself, and allowed her arms to go limp at her sides as she took in the vulnerability present within the senior ranger's expression. such a sight was both rare and heart-wrenching; the brunette typically exuding a sort of confidence as she tackled her duties as a league member.

'i guess battling is a sore spot for her.'

"let's stop for now," she proposed. "We can just go out for lunch or something."

cait had wanted to inquire about stormy's reaction, but decided instead that changing the topic of discussion entirely would prove far more effective. she had no desire to rush her friend along, after all.

"venus?"

her pokemon approached them, and blinked her large eyes at both the human females before shifting her focus toward the charmeleon. there was a sympathetic glimmer present within the grass-type's gaze as she comprehended the going ons, and she'd release a low and content rumble as cait moved to scratch behind her ears.

She pauses as if struggling to find the words she wants to use. It looks painful, given the creases of tension that line her face.[break][break]

"I'm not the same person I was in Kanto, well... before Kanto was lost. A lot has happened, and a lot has changed. I need to rediscover battling again, it's just difficult."[break][break]

But the truth of it was, Stormy had never really formally battled. She was a Pokemon friend more than a Pokemon trainer. She had seen her first taste of battle in the middle of a bloodbath, and it hadn't been what she wanted.[break][break]

Stormy looks at Cait, with her hands limp at her side and the sad expression on her face. Instinctively, she reaches out to hold the woman's hands, squeezing them tight.[break][break]

"Lunch sounds fantastic. Maybe we can battle again later when I'm feeling a little less... shaken up."[break][break]

Charmeleon stood next to the Venusaur, looking up at the incredible leafy beast with curiosity. Stormy smiled down at her kindly.[break][break]

cait gently returned the squeeze with her own, her smile appearing genuine and her eyes remarkably bright as she responded to the female's admittance.

'i'm happy she's being so honest with me.'

"i'm in no rush," she promised. "no rush at all."

her gaze settled upon her venusaur, the large creature soon peering at her in turn.

"you can go ahead and rest up, girl," cait said, moving to recall the pokemon into her pokeball. "i'll deal with that scratch later on, alright?"

while surprisingly deep, the young woman didn't appear to be at all alarmed by the injury the pokemon had sustained; grass-type's regenerative qualities were remarkable, after all. the flesh there would stitch itself back together in a day or two after a bit of cleaning was done to speed up the process.

"there's a really nice local deli i passed on the way here," she said. "i'd like to give it a try..."
